4 months no smokes!

I can't believe it's been 4 months since my last cigarette. I don't even really miss it anymore. My BF had a "drag" last week. I hope he doesn't start again. I will probably move out. I am not going to live with a smoker.

micki that is great..I quit in Nov. but now I am ready to lose these last 6 pounds i gained and it is NOT CONING off..and i find myself talking myself back into smoking..at least it was a food substitute and frankly I do not feel that great.
But I fight it..how did you lose your minor gain....? it was like nothing.

I didn't, I am up to 148. I haven't been low carbing, but I have been walking 5 miles almost every day and not smoking.
Today I started low carbing again. I am hoping to be back down to my signature weight in a couple weeks.
Remember I lost 10 lbs before I quit so that if I gained a few back it wouldn't be enough to make me start smoking again. BTW, that was always my favorite excuse to smoke.
Walking 20 minutes every day makes up for the artificial metabolism high that comes from smoking supposedly. So I walk.

I quit 4 weeks and two days ago after just over a decade of smoking. I still can't believe I actually quit.

Mostly I miss the physical activity of smoking.. light, drag, exhale... something to do with my hands. It was my security blanket for many years after stress, excitement, etc... and my relaxation, my break from the day. My 1st thought when bored, tense or waiting for somehting/someone... the perfect addition to go with drinks out. Also when driving long distances it was my companion and kept me awake when I felt sleepy. WOW if that's not a description of an addicts love for product....

I chewed a lot of Altoids cinnamon gum. I found that if my mint or my gum was spicy hot it helped with the craving. When I have the cigg urge I just burn the snot out of my tongue with the spicy gum or mint and it helps.

I am glad not to be hacking and coughing in the mornings anymore, and I love that my life is no longer structured around ciggs. The constant, "do I have enough", "will I have enough in the morning", "should I stop now and buy...", "1..2..3..4.. in pack, nope better run up to the store tonight" and "ah crud, this is my last one?".

I'm so sorry I ever started. I can't believe I quit twice for a year each when had my two kids and was stupid enough to start again.

Do I miss it? Oh yes, every day. Will I smoke again? Never.

awesome! Well i quit in november and think about it everyday..and if i am drinking..i really think about it BIG TIME...but so far so good..it IS getting easier for sure!
I have not lost the 6 pounds i gained but I honestly think it has ZERO to do with smoking..like Micki..i made some bad decisions with eating..that is it.
We blame smoking becuase the cigs want us to blame quitting on gaining..the addict in us alive and kicking..i keep telling the cravings AND the scale when it shows the 6 pounds...you cannot have me..i am not willing to suffer cancer because you are messing with my mind. The cigs have become the devil and i have got to hate them...

Yep, I'm still eating crap, but I am walking 5 miles every day (at least) and I am a non-smoker. My live-in BF has started smoking again. He isn't smoking in the house though. I am not going to let him be a bad influence. I really hate the way it smells.

Been smoke free since Feb 22, 2007. Well over a year. The Nicotine Monster never goes away.

Example: A couple days ago I was walking up my path to the front door of my home, right after getting back from the gym, when I suddenly thought, "Hey. If I start smoking again I could lose weight faster!"

Mind you, it was only a passing thought, I didn't even have a CRAVING.... but what a HOLD that Nic-Monster has!

I'm still not smoking!
Survived the April back surgery and just this week starting to feel human again! I credit that to the pedicure (I still can't quite reach my feet and am not supposed to be bending) manicure and haircut!!
But, it's been a long, sometimes brutal couple months. I am so proud of not giving in to the nicotine.
Then the night before last I dreamt that I smoked all night long. OMG did I have cravings yesterday.
But I WON!! again!
1 day at a time.....

Hang in everybody!

Micki, DH did not quit either. He does not smoke inside or around me usually. Sometimes I will seek him out when I know he is outside puffing, if I am really thinking about smoking and tell him to blow smoke in my face.

Cures me EVERY single time. My stomach immediately hurts and I wanna puke!!
I say
"THANKS" and walk away.

My DH has not quit either. I think he is a bit embarrassed about it. He thought it would be easier for him after I quit. But nothing about it is easy.

I can't believe how much he reeks now after smoking... ugh. I hate that i ever smelled that bad!

my mom has chronic pulmonary disease and gasps all the time. She used to, up until last year, play golf twice a week...now she cannot walk through the mall at a slow pace without gasping.
THis is terrible but I am pissed that she cannot quit. I feel that if I did it she can too.
It has caused me to lose a little respect for her...HOW CRAPPY IS THAT. I am upset that i feel this way

Yeah, my DH is still smoking as well. Although, since he went to Afghanistan, he says he doesn't smoke as much. HOWEVER, he picking up dipping again!

I would rather have him smoke. UGH UGH UGH

I wish he would quit everything altogether but, the harder I push, the harder he pushes back. He says he doesn't want to quit because he LIKES smoking.

Oh well. Right now he is away, I only ever smell cigarettes on people who pass me that are smokers and I find I shrink away from people who smell like cigs. It is almost like they are carrying a nasty disease I can catch if I get too close.

I have friends in Afganistan and they all say they smoke or took it up to pass the time...
get on him when he comes home
No one loved to smoke as much as me i really believe it...I smoked with pnemonia...bronchitis...when i had my wisdome teeth pulled...I used to love the way my hands smelled after a cig...
But, seing a man with a trach tube to break and he was my age...40....OMG that was it...do i think about it? yeah...do I want one...heck yeah...but then i see that guy and imagine what he lives with at such a young ate and it goes complely away...also i have a smokers lung as me background on my computer.

Good morning everyone
I put the cigarettes down again yesterday so today will be day 1. I have basically been smoke free since I quit around 3 yrs ago, but have fits of picking up 3 or 4 whenever I'm stressed the past year and now it's becoming an every other week thing. I've been smoking the past week solid and I'm ready to put this behind me and find other ways of dealing w/ the stress.
I smoked for 42 years, I'm a 63 year old grandma. The Nicodemon would grab me in a heartbeat if he could, so I'm here to gather strength.

Linda and

What are you using as assistance? Patch, gum, Chantix, cold turkey? Getting support from your family?

Post as often as you can and read back through this thread for some handy tips/tricks!

YOU CAN DO THIS!

Actually, I'm still on the welbutrin I started with. I quit it for a couple of years, but then when I started slipping, I started taking it again, more for insurance than anything. I have just been taking one pill a day but started back on 2 about 3 days ago.
Thanks for the welcome

Oh yeah, my plan is just to take it a few minutes at a time. I do have some munchies, but feel like doing alot of sleeping today for some reason. That has happened in the past when I've gone off cigarettes, so I"m not too worried about it. I will just give in to it.
