My vote goes to the affair- sounds like it will be great fun! I am eating on plan and have not had any major cravings...yet. I am shocked that this is not as horrible as I thought it would be. I still feel the urge to step out, but I have to kind of rethink it and Ta Da-- the thought is gone! This is crazy. Tomorrow will be my first day back at work as a non-smoker!

2 days gone of being a non-smoking working gal. It is going pretty well... the hour long commute with no cigs is driving me crazy though!

Gum could be your best friend during your commute. I also like to turn the radio up or pop in a cheesy 80s CD and sing at the top of your lungs! Keeps you from smoking and gets oxygen into them smoke starved lungs!!!!

FOR 2 DAYS!!!

I use sippy straws, you know, little stir things from cocktails at a bar? I just have my way with them! By the time I get out of the car, the poor little straw is just mutilated!

Thanks for the encouragement BarbDe!
Boudica- Have you been spying on me That's EXACTLY what I have been doing. Nothing like good old B-52's or Prince and the Revolution at 630 am

Micki- I love your sippy straw idea- I think I will "have my way" with one manana! I just read somebody else's idea of chewing cinnamon stix-- I might get some of both and go for it!

A few things I've noticed about my "new habit" of NOT smoking:
1. I can smell my detergent/fabric softener ALL day!
2. I can smell my shampoo ALL day!
3. I can smell my scented hand lotion ALL day- and no longer as a vanilla/tobacco
4. My breath stays fresher longer!
5. I am not losing 10 minutes 10 times a day

Thanks all!!!

Today was NOT a good day. I actually feel like I "miss" my cigs. I feel sad and moody. Luckily, it did not get to the point of me lighting up-- but I could not stop thinking of a cigarette!

I just want to sleep or scream AAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!

BUT...........

You have 5 days under your belt of being smoke free

See all the cool 'new' things you've noticed since not smoking

Remember, this feeling WILL PASS.

If it doesn't pass then make yourself a deal. If you run 5 miles THEN you can have a cigarette.

KUTGW!!

NO YOU CAN"T! Not one puff, no matter what! Not ever! If you feed the addiction, it will never die. You are going to have bad days, I still have bad days. You should see me on my walks, grumbling to myself, feeling cranky, and just talking it all out with myself. If anyone saw me, they would think I'm crazy. It's hard to quit for good, but the only way to quit for good is to never ever light a single cigarette.
Last night I dreamed about smoking. I was so disappointed in myself. I hope you are feeling better today. If you aren't, I hope you will feel better tomorrow.

Can you please make a list of the things about smoking that you miss? Here's my list:
1. Not feeling cranky all the time
2. ?

Then make a list of the things you don't miss:

1. Killing myself with every cigarette
2. Looking like a low-life standing outside smoking while everyone looks at me like "you idiot"
3. Spending $10 a day
4. Being afraid I will run out
5. Driving to the store late at night because I ran out
6. dirty ashtrays
7. stinky car
8. stinky hair
9. stinky clothes
10. stinky hands
11. spilled ashtrays
12. the mess in my house
13. stinky house
14. yellow stains on my fingers
15. brown stains on my teeth
16. hacking up my lungs every morning
17. my old lady voice
18. not being able to sing
19. out of breath after one flight of stairs
20. going outside in the middle of nice meal out to smoke
21. filthy windows
22. burns on my clothes, sheets, floor, car and even occasionally myself (ouch)

I'm sure there is more, that's all I can think of off the top of my head. I think I'll deal with the crankiness.

Yeah... the whole 'You can have a cig if you run 5 miles first" thing? It was a joke!!! That's why I put the little laughing guy at the end.

Hell, if you CAN run 5 miles after being a smoker... then WOW.

Besides, if you DID run 5 miles... afterwards.... you wouldn't WANT a cigarette!!! It would take more than 10 minutes to run 5 miles.... and it takes about 10 minutes for the crave to pass!

Sorry to all who may have taken my JOKE out of context.

I have been quit for 5 Months, 1 Week, 4 hours, 13 minutes and 59 seconds (159 days). I have saved $795.87 by not smoking 6,367 cigarettes. I have saved 3 Weeks, 1 Day, 2 hours and 35 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 11/4/2007 2:36 PM

I'm still cranky too.

That and this stupid weight I let myself gain. Which only adds to the crankiness. However, the weight gain is my own darn fault.

But .. very good list of things I don't miss.

Micki, you are on top of it girlfriend!!

WTG Skoolmarm and all our quitters!!

I have been quit for 3 Weeks, 5 Days, 2 hours, 53 minutes and 22 seconds (26 days). I have saved $122.50 by not smoking 522 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Day, 19 hours and 30 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 3/16/2008 5:17 PM

I am excited to see that the cost of cigarettes is actually MORE than the cost of Chantix. One good thing about the price of them going up!

I am doing well. I started with a personal trainer three days per week and on my off days, I walk 45 minutes on the treadmill and take one day completely off. I cannot believe how bad of shape I'm in compared to the last time I weight-trained. That in itself is a serious motivation for me to stay stopped.

I have also been able to give up ALL asthma medicine I was taking!!! Saves me another $70/month! My migraines have lessened, too, so I'm saving money on that as well.

I'm hopeful that I keep remembering all of these things if I even THINK about having a drag off someone's cig - which has only happened to me once so far, thank goodness.

I haven't gained any weight either.

If it doesn't pass then make yourself a deal. If you run 5 miles THEN you can have a cigarette. This was too funny!! I can't imagine running for 5 minutes!!

The feeling did pass of course. But it was a horrible feeling-- like trying hard NOT to cry and even breaking down a few times. Pretty scary stuff... Veggin' out in bed DID help. I slept off and on and watched bad TV crap when I woke up. Made me forget my craves, that's for sure.

Micki- Your list was perfect. I can't think of any "real" things I miss about smoking either.

My friends and family think I'm insane for changing eating habits AND quitting smoking. Some have actually even told me to go back to one to make life a little easier. I wanted to snap on them!! Instead, I graciously explained my decision to do both.

Thank you guys for understanding and never telling me to go back! It means so much to know that you all went through this and that I am not going to die because I'm having a craving.

Tomorrow is my first full week of no smoking

I am so glad that I popped in here and read a bit of this ... I am struggling with quitting ... officially, I supposedly quit last Thursday, but with a few setbacks.

I CAN do this!

What has caused my setbacks is ... well, many things, but my crankiness ... and sis (who quit with me and is doing great! Grrr) keeps pointing out how moody I am and how mean I am, etc ... and what do you think that does? Yup... makes it WORSE! XD

Best wishes to you Barb. Nick's daughter is going back in for surgery #3 to have the plates & screws removed. I'll be thinking of you. Thank goodness you aren't smoking. You will have a better surgery, less bleeding and faster heeling.

Just wanted to give an update as we close in on April. No cigs for me and a BIG deal for me is that I can go hours now and seem to forget that I was ever a smoker?! The first few days I thought of cigs ALL the time. Now I notice that it's maybe once or twice a day when I remember that I WAS a smoker and I get sad for myself. I can't even truly say that I have cravings.

Hope everyone else had a great smoke-free April!
