The foods that I favor trigger me to overeat, even when I've tried not forbidding them for months.

(There are simply some foods that I cannot moderate, so I must eliminate them!)

I have recently ordered The Beck Diet Solution .
It is cognitive therapy and based upon changing the way we think and our behaviors regarding eating, long-term.

I think it will be a great book for anyone with eating issues and at any stage of weight management.
I haven't gotten the book yet (Intuitive Eating), but I have been reading about it. It does worry me about eating what you really want (ie: sugar, etc. if that's what you want) I'm going to try to apply some of the things I've heard about it now, though. Namely, eat only when hungry, stop when full. That is really my only goal today. Last night I ate everything from candy to poptarts to a chicken pot pie!! I am so bloated this morning, my rings are even tight. I was laying on the couch last night, just so stuffed and sick, I'm even still full this morning. If I was back in my purging days, I wouldn't feel so full and sick this morning, but I'm so thankful to be past that.

I do have the Beck Diet Solution, it's a great book! I've only gotten a few chapters in, but it really does try to train you to deal with the psychological side of eating/dieting, etc., and how to start a new dialogue with yourself. I really want to be kind/gentle with myself, but I don't want to be eating all the time in that process, either. Let me know what you think.

Welcome to our newbie, too!!!!

What food or foods do you really miss while LCing?
There's not much that we can't "replicate" to make fairly LC.
I'll help give you ideas, if I can,

By any chance are you a stay at home mom?

(I am and I often feel the need to get away, too.)

Have a good day!

I believe that honoring your hunger and stopping when full is being kind to yourself, on so many levels!

I strive to do both, every day!

Rebecca ~ I am a SAHM! I love it ... I really do ... but ... I need to find breaks that don't involve doing things FOR the family. That's next to impossible.

As for things I miss on LC ... Subway sandwiches, pizza, pasta, hamburgers and fries, breaded chicken, M&M cookie ice cream sandwiches and cheesecake .... CARBS!!

I can taste the splenda when I make something with it. It leaves this funny after taste that I really can't stand ... I've learned to deal with it in my soda though.

I think my HUGE problem is, making LC meals seems to take a lot more effort than what I'm used to. We've done the "faux-tatoes" and the Parmesan breaded whatever ... I'm a "JAM cook" ... Just Add Meat.

Photomama - I like to clean as it brings me peace of mind too. Ive noticed that if I clean to much or too long without taking a break I become cranky and start feeling sorry for myself. Start to feel like the family slave.

Cleaning our homes is blessing it and so worth it (quote-flylady). But you must take a break every hour and do something else for a few minutes (15-30). (Again Flylady) Make sure you sit down and rest. I always feel recharged and ready for more after this.

Jen - good for you for having a plan. Go easy and simple for first few days. Ive been working out for about two weeks and I still try to keep my work outs at 15-30 min depending on how I feel. I have to force myself not to keep adding time each day cuz this always leads me to feeling overwhelmed and I just stop all together.

Someone suggested on another board to keep workouts super easy and you will enjoy them. Sounds so simple but its hard for a perfectionist (points to self). I want to do it perfect or not a all. Its hard finding a middle ground in my mind.

Photomama - I also struggle with coming up with LC meals that are truely satisfing and easy. My hubby can eat bread, pasta, potatoes and still maintain his weight provided he works out. I tried some of the LC meals and he enjoyed them but would eat a P&J sandwich or two afterwards. I gave up and just cook the other stuff.

Since I am dieting I usuallly eat standing up in the kitchen. This works for me as there is no TV, and I concentrate on eating. I have accepted that I will NEVER be able to eat what the hubby eats and still wear my cute clothes. Thats just the way it is.

When I sit and eat, the eating session just keeps going. This does not work for me.

Brilliant ~ That is so strange that you have an easier time controlling your eating while standing. I'm so the opposite. I actually NEED to sit down to feel like I'm eating. I just have to make sure I'm sitting at a table and not in front of the tv. When I snack, I'm constantly going in and out of the pantry ... in and out of the kitchen. I'll take the food into my bedroom so the kids don't see me eating .. 'cause then I'd have to share CRAZY

This is exactly what I need to be doing. Right now I'm in the "I've already screwed up today ... I'll start tomorrow" mode. I'm trying to talk myself out of it but ... it's a constant battle.

Photomama-- Wow!! We sound a lot alike! I am also a SAHM with 2 little ones, dd 4, and ds 14 months.

Our habits also sound alike...I LOVE LOVE LOVE carbs!! I don't know why...anything. Like you said, pizza, sandwiches, hamburgers...

I also get in the "I've screwed up today already, so what's the point...and I'll start tomorrow" mentallity. I have been totally on plan today, but I am struggling.

Will go drink some water and try to get through it...but it is so hard sometimes.

Jen and photomama,

My boys are 4 and 22 months.
Although I feel very blessed to be able to stay home with them, it sure isn't always easy.

I liked all those foods before LCing (especially pizza, pasta, and potatoes).
But after not having them and losing weight, I don't miss them.
And, luckliy, bread has never been a big deal to me.

LindaSue has a great recipe for "deep-dish pizza" that totally ROCKS!
There's always Dreamfield's pasta, I guess. I've never tried it, though.
I like having spaghetti squash instead of pasta.
I do treat myself to a small sweet baked potato, occasionally, and they're quite yummy!

My problem is mainly nuts and PB.
I can seriously eat outrageous amounts of either or both.

I stopped at 4T PB (or 1/4 C) today, after my lunch.
This is, in fact, HUGE progress, for me.
I didn't overeat it and it didn't trigger a binge.

No guilt.
I'm pleased with myself for controlling the situation, for once!

Happy afternoon everyone.

Jen
When restarting I take supplements for sugar cravings (L-glutimine 1000 mg 3 times/day with food). I also eat as much legal food to not feel deprived and I drink lots of caffine for energy.

Recently I added Chromium 1000 mg 3 times a day w/food and it further reduced cravings.

If you decide to use them, buy quality ones at your local health food store (not GNC to expensive) verse from Rite Aid or Walmart. I have felt a BIG difference with using their supplements (read - they did not work for me).

Rebecca! PB is an easy food to binge on (taste & texture is yummy).

Do you eat natural? I found it had to overeat this to as it was super thick, oily and had a super strong PB taste (not so yummy as it lacked sweetness). I started binging on it when I added splenda.

Hey Brilliant!

I eat only natural PB.
And I have eaten up to 1 and 1/2 C (or ~24 T) of it in one sitting.

OMG! PB is a biggy for me. I find that if I get the crunchy, I don't eat as much but ... give me some Reduced Fat Creamy, I will eat the whole jar I lived on the stuff when I was pregnant and the craving never went away.

BTW, my kids ... DS will be 3 next Wednesday and DD will be 6 mid Aug. I also have my niece (2yo) and nephew (2mo) on school days starting in Aug. If you have any suggestions on LC snacks for the kids ... ones that we can share when we go out or anytime for that matter, please let me know.

The only thing that keeps me out of the PB is this: When I make DS PBJ's, I purposly let a tiny bit of jelly stay on the knife before I dip it in the PB, so it may stick in the PB. Getting any wierd jelly in my spoonful of PB makes me want to GAG! Therefore, right from the start the whole container just seems contaminated to me...wierd and a little gross, I know. But it does work for me...

PhotoMama & Jen- hang in there. Try to stay away from the non-low carb things...break that cycle. I know it is really, really hard especially when DH and family is not low carb. When my DH is have a carby meal, I make sure I have a very special low carb meal planned for myself...I actually make him a little jealous when we sit down to eat.

Brilliant- I am glad you accept the challenge to go 6 days without bingeing on gum. I am with you in spirit as well as on the board.

Rebecca- Nice job on portion controlling the PB...I admire you, because it is just easier for me to abstain than to portion control. Keep reassuring yourself that you won't have to swear off PB and could eat PB daily if you keep the portion to 1/4 cup (or what every you set). Maybe then it won't have such magical powers over you, because YOU ARE IN CONTROL!!!

Me- Day 3 is going well, but rough waters are still ahead. Wish me luck.
Last night, DH was shelling and eating pistachios in front of me (he doesn't know nuts are my binge food of choice), I didn't have one...wasn't tempted because I want to make it to Day 3 even more!!!

Speaking of pizza...today at work we had a pizza party including salad, soda, cookies, and fruit for a coworkers farewell. I strategized a bit, I ate my lunch (burger-sans bread) before the pizza came, and at the party I had some salad- No diet soda (AS is a setoff), no pizza, no cookies, and no fruit. I did struggle with the strawberries (former fruit freak), but I chose not to have one, because I had two this past weekend and they were so delicious and memorable that I could forego it this time as I am back in detox (induction). Pizza was my favorite food, but I made it!

Now tomorrow we are meeting up at a friends house I think we are having pizza. I've decided I may eat a salad ahead of time, but will allow myself to nibble at the topping and cheese so I don't draw any attention. Cross your fingers, but I think I will be OK as long as I am not starving or drinking too much wine (I've cut back severely).

Weekend is almost here...anybody have a trapped doors to avoid? Maybe we can help you set a plan of attack before the weekend. Sundays, can be troublesome for me, because I get antsy about the week ahead.

Back to today, I still have a couple of hours before dinner at a steakhouse (8PM). I just had a snack of slice of ham, 1 tbsp sour cream, and one stalk of celery...it was delish. Hopefully that will tidy me over til then. Off to go iron.

Oh ladies, I didn't make it today.

I just feel very hopeless and helpless lately and need to break out of this funk! I make myself SOOOOOO MAD

Don't want to be *stuck* in this body forever, but how can I change things when I don't even make it through the first day???

I feel like I keep starting day 1 over and over and over again, but I can never make it to day 2...

Okay ... today is a new beginning. We still have a bunch of high carb left overs that need to be dealt with. I'm thinking the kids can do most of the dealing.

My mom mentioned something to me last night ... she had called to check on all the flooding we've been having lately. Anyway ... she's been getting those Weight Smart and South Beach Diet Frozen/Quick meals. I think I may take a look at those and (1) see what's in them and (2) see what flavors they have. I'm thinking if I have something quick to grab ... it will hopefully help.

Honestly, it's pretty easy for me to maintain ... as long as I don't go overboard like I've been doing. Two years ago, I got down to 135 and was able to stay there (between 132 and 136) while eating anything. I just had to CONTROL the amounts. I was to get back to that point. I want to do it now.

Morning ladies!

Today is a new day, and everything that happened yestereday is in the past--I will not dwell on it and feel bad.

I am ready to go and feeling more positive today--I know I can do anything if I put my mind to it.

So...here goes another day. for me.

Good for you, Jen.
Great attitude.

We cannot change the past and we cannot control the future.
We can only live in the present and make it as good (or great) as possible.

So, let's all make only awesome choices today and feel good about every one of them!
