here I go again...binge

I have been feeling good about myself since the start of the new year. I am going to the gym and lost 7 pounds. Well as many of you know, it only takes 1 comment to set me off on a binge. Yesterday a girl at work made a comment about how I need to try her cleasing system that she sells on the side, to lose weight. I told her it was too expensive and I just bought a new car so I cannot afford it. She kept trying to convince me and said "If you don't do this cleanse, you probably won't be around to enjoy your car. We are normally friends and I don't think she meant to hurt me but I am so overly sensitive that I went right to the grocery stop and then home and binged on potatoes, taco chips, cookies.. I am so mad at myself to let one little comment get to me. I really thought since I am now on antidepressants and in therapy, I could get over this. Her saying that to me, just reminded me of all the years that my parents insulted me about my weight and made me feel unworthly. I know I am better than that and I will get over this also.

Hello sweet, I have something you can tell your co-worker/friend the next time she brings up this cleansing thing.

Tell her sure I'll try it, wheres my sample? If she thinks you won't be around to enjoy your new car, then she needs to give you the Cleanse free of charge. IMHO, I think she is rude and you can tell her that "I" said so.

Sweets, when YOU feel it's time, everything will all come together and you'll stick to this WOE. Isn't this about you? Let that comment go to the trash and let the YOU come out and enjoy life.

I would check into your company policy on soliciting on company premises. If it turns out that soliciters aren't allowed, then what she is doing is against company policy. If she wants to sell her products, she needs to do it outside the building.

I would practice role playing my responses, trying to be tactful and not mean-spirited. But if she doesn't understand the response of NO any other way, perhaps suggests that she may want to look into control issues with her therapist since she can't take NO for an answer.

I turned to a 12step program to deal with my binge eating and today am a sponsor that I can call when the thoughts in my head start to bother me. We talk each morning for 15 minutes and I get a chance to plan my day both for the food and for myself.
