Question/Thought for the Day 12/22/04

Name three nice things you can do for yourself to cope with family and other stressors over the comming holiday (besides eating, of course).

1) take my knitting along, and not be afraid to haul it out. I can knit and be social at the same time, and it's so meditative that is de-stresses me almost immediately

2) go on an outing on my own. Going for a walk would be great, but we are going up to Colorado Springs, where it's sure to be freezing. So instead I will take my self down to the lovely yarn shop with a coffe shop right next door at least once, by myself, while I am up there.

3)A hot bath with a good book (yay)

4) and of course, making my daily pilgrimage to this board!

*6 days free of sugar, starch, frankenfoods, and feeling GREAT*

I am planning on treating each day of the Holiday season like every other day. Doing what I do, like writing my food down, calling it into my sponsor, and weighing my portions. Since I am traveling to family homes on the 24th to the 26th, I am bring backup food with me, knowing full well I may not need it, but if I do I will have it and for this reason won't have to think about food while I am gone.

So the number one thing I do is plan to take care of myself.

I have a list of phone numbers of like minded folks I can call if the going gets tough, I have meetings I can call into on Christmas day that are ongoing the entire day every hour on the hour, I journal every day for 3 minutes at the end of the day and today can't imagine sleeping until I do my 3 minutes of writing. And I help out when I am others homes, it keeps me busy and out of trouble around the food. I don't lick my fingers or eat between meals and so can't accidentally taste something that could make me sick.

Today, I have a plan and when all else fails, I pray to God for direction. I keep my food in one hand and my life in the other and don't need to turn to food for emotional calmness.

Wishing you all the best during the wonderful season.
