just plain foodaholics
I just discovered this forum what a good idea...I had just realized how much of an addiction my overeating is/was and I am trying to get alhold of it...I should have guessed, I have an addictive personality, having been addicted to smoking, drugs and alcohol in the past none of them had as strong ahold on me as my food addiction....Sooooooooooo I am trying to get rid of this addiction, I can't say its specifically carbs or sugar its just food...I realized I was never/rarely hungry I just ate and ate whatever I wanted....I did terrible on the atkins although I was basically on it for 2 years...there were just too many high calorie choices available to me ie:cream cheese, baconheavy cream etc...and I managed to gain like 40lbs...Now I am on South Beach and doing well because I have fewer choices therefore less poor choices to make...I think I have lost the Atkins weight fitting into my "skinny" (ha ha) should I say less fat clothes again...I remiind myself many times a day I am a foodaholic and remind myself...I am old...66... and I don't have much time left to get on line before my health goes even further downhill.....

Hi Puttchikins,
I to have struggled with alcohol and drugs in the past, with food always being my primary addiction. I believe there is hope and we can recover. For me this has involved trying to understand the issues in my past that still haunt me in the present as well as owning the choices I’ve made along the way. I also believe that we aren’t meant to recover alone – we need each other. I hope you will consider joining our accountability/support group – I know its been a help to me. I feel that overeating is a ddiction just like drugs is. When we cannot control it then it becomes a addiction. I think most over weight people feel like this.
we just have to learn how to over come that food addiction and eat healthier and low carb to and we will lose the weight and have overcome some of that addiction to food. Eating right has to be learned and you have to replace the old way of your eating patterns with new ones and make it a plan to eat like that for the rest of your life . If you don't then you will most likely fall back into your old eating patterns and gain the weight back. Sometimes you have to dig deep inside yourself to find out why you are eating like you were in the first place. Maybe its from a disaster that has happened to you, or maybe from boredom or stress, what ever it is, that issue has to be looked at first and then you can learn a new eating behavior and go on with your healthy eating and losing the weight you so desperately want to lose. With so much food products out in the world today and all of it shown on t.v. to has made us crave food like we have never done before, so we have to be strong and refuse all that fast food and junk food and not make it our main way of eating. Go home and prepare healthy meals for you and your family and maybe in the future they will not get obese like we did. |

I'm learning a lot from reading on this site but how do I find a support buddy? Do I just grab one and start emailing? I wouldn't want to be rude.

Puttchikins......
We are all on different eating plans on the Carb Addicts group. What we have is an accountability partner....so it is up to you and your buddy to hold each other accountable. I am not on the same WOE as everyone else. |

Puttchkins, where in Fla. are you? I live here to.send me a pm message sometimes and maybe I can help you out some.
I think most us who need to lose weight are addictied to carbs, i know i was until low carb came into my life four years ago. But now i no longer let it control me, i can control it now. I think we all have to learn how not to let carbs conttrol us and when we do then we can lose our weight. I do not know why the doctors do not tell us overweight ones that carbs is the thing that is causing us to want to over eat so much because it rises the insulin levels in our bodies and that in return will make us hungry. But they won't tell you that...... Its when we can break that addiction that we can control our weight. I know this was my problem was my insulin and it probably is for most of you who are over weight to. control it and you can control your hunger. Low carb is the way to control the insulin to so i advise anyone who needs to lose weight is to control the carbs in your diet. |
