That's it! No more smoking!

Enough is enough I've just finished my last cigarette in my current pack. I'm not going to buy any more, or accept any from someone else.

I know it's the right time for me to pack the cancer sticks in. This is not a spur of the moment decision I've been planning this for over a week.

So it's to ciggarettes, and to better health.

Well I've survived my first day! I can't lie and say it was easy, because it wasn't. I came very near to just going to my local shop and buying a pack. I'm getting very tetchy, and the slightest thing is setting me off. Oh I pity my poor DH right now, he's being so patient. How long does this last? I mean the frayed nerves side of the withdrawls?

3 days ma dear, 3 days. The crave will last forever it seems and may not ever completely go away, but trust me, the nicotine will be completely out of your system in 72 hours. That's how long it takes to break an addiction.

Just don't EVER, EVER pick one back up. Just the one puff will totally readdict you and you will have to start all over. I have done this 6 or 8 times.

If it's too hard, use the patches. I don't care what anyone says about not curing an addiction like this, it works!! I haven't had any major withdrawals or side affects. I was smoking over a pack a day for 14 years and started out on the middle patch, 14 mg. It takes the edge off. And I have already skipped a couple of days of using it. Finding other techniques for coping.

I will step down to the 7 mg in a few days and then off them completely. Keep in mind that you are not inhaling 400 different chemicals into your lungs using the patch

You can do this! Start adding up the hours and how much money you are saving!

Thanks Tracy! I'll keep going, now I've got over the first day, it seems daft to start up again. Though I may pick up some of those sugar free nicotine lozenges tomorrow. I can't use the patches as I'm alergic to the glue they use. I don't want to use one of those inhaler type things, too close to smoking lol and the gum would play havoc with my false teeth lol.

Dang woman, you really can't get any relief can you?

Anyway- you will look back at this later and say "I can't believe it took me so long!"

Want me to find you some sights with pictures of diseased, cancer filled lungs, hearts, windpipes and people who have had their tongues and jaws removed?

Did it for me after 14 years! Think I saved them under favorites.

Keep up the great job TLW!! It is really hard I know, but just keep going.
For stress I would light I match, take a long deep breath (copying lighting a cig), then slowly release it blowing out the match. It really helped me ALOT. Some people use candles. Still do this once in awhile, and it's been like 3-4 yrs. since I quit.

Still ciggie free, and it is getting a little better, though I have noticed that although the cravings are now further apart they seem to be stronger in intensity. Is this the norm?

glad to hear it is getting somewhat better.
I remember my cravings being pretty strong the first week. I used half a patch for some of the days and I was always rubbing it (trying to get more nicotine I'd guess) . It was weird that subconciously I knew where the stuff was coming from, because the patch was in a different spot each day.

Thanks sweethearts, anyone else planning to quit? All I can say is if I can do it anyone can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am the most crazy person you will ever know! I am beligerant, stubborn, and weak when it comes to addictions. The crazy part is that if someone provokes me I don't get mad and speak my mind, I mope around like a wounded lamb and try to console myself with anything that I can find that will give me instant pleasure of any kind. I have been addicted to alcohol { haven't had a drink for two years now!} I was addicted to perscription painkillers for years, don't abuse them anymore! I am addicted to nicotine, but I don't smoke anymore! I'm addicted to sugar and anything sweet, I'm probably never going to get over this addiction but I can control it by substituting Splenda. I'm addicted to salt, must work on that! I'm addicted to the Shopping Chanel. I still go on at least once a day and I make up a huge order of all the things I would love to have. Sometimes I even print out the order, but I never hit the SUBMIT BUTTON! I don't even have a credit card! But it allows me a safe way to shop and have some fun without causing anyone any problems. I do the same with Sears catalogues. I'm addicted to my Low Carb Friends, addicted to the love, praise, sharing, fun etc. that I find here. I hope you and yours are all safe, well and happy, love Carole

I quit too!

Hi girls! I also quit smoking 3 months ago! I'm still sucking on the Commit Lozenge, though. I need to start weaning off of it pretty soon, as it's not cheap either! I used to smoke 2 packs per day, mainly out of boredom and my addictive personality!

Congratulations on all your quits! It does get easier as time goes on, though. I had been eating more Edys Light than normal but have since cut that out after gaining 7 lbs. since I quit.

I still need to lose around 15-20 lbs. and it seems like an uphill battle with the slower non-smoking metabolism! I'm working out on the weights 2-3 x per week and must start walking and running more, i know!

Hi!
I quit almost 3 months ago. I am still using the nicotene gum. I have started weaning off of it. I want to be done with the gum within about 2 more weeks.

Quitting is really hard, but so worth it. I smoked for over 30 years. When I quit I was smoking at least 2 packs a day, some days more. I used to cough all day, and wake up coughing at night. I don't cough anymore.....I can breathe better.......I can excercise longer. The stairs at work are a breeze, I never take the elevator anymore. (Two flights.) It was hard at work because I didn't know what to do on my breaks. Actually, I still don't take breaks. At least I am getting more work done. LOL

Congratulations to all you quitters! I am proud of you! Keep the quit! What a great support board.

Jeannie

I quit 6 weeks ago - I posted a question in the main carb lobby - I'm new and didn't know this thread existed. I have gained 10 lbs in spite of eating essentially the same as I have been. Now I'm restricting the carbs even more than I was. I was on maintenance and at goal and now I'm 10lbs. over and getting depressed. I have been visiting this site for several months for inspiration but decided to join and participate instead of lurking any more.

You know your metobolism slows when you quit right? I would recommend doing induction for a week and increasing your exercise to 5 days per week. I don't know how much you exercise now. Try some weights also.

Lots and lots of water and SF chewing gum. It's worth it, it will come back off

Congratulations!
