New to this board
I am a food addict and I really need help.
Today I attended my first OA meeting and just so happens that it was a HOW meeting (with a food plan). Looking for a sponsor right now (taking a break to type this) and I'm starting on the plan immediately. Be back a lot to ask for help and to share what ever I can to help anyone else. |

Hello there... I have 26 days of GS abstinence. I feel in control for the first time in my life. I wish you nothing but the best. My foods are wonderful, I am not craving, and I have tons of energy. I have a long way to go, but I know that one day at a time I will get there. I weigh and measure 3 meal a day off of the greysheet, write them down, turn it over to my sponser and don't eat inbetween meals no matter what! IDENMW! Hugs, Linda~ |

Thanks Linda - today I'm getting my sponsor and my food list. However yesterday I followed the recommendations of my temporary sponsor so today will be day two of abstinance.

Hi meriweather,
You are lucky there are HOW meetings in your area. But we have GSA & OA meetings here. I am a member of both but my sponsor is GSA and I follow the greysheet too. I only weigh in once a month, but have lost 6-7 lbs a month since Dec 23rd. Just joined the 150 lbs club. I feel a whole lot more peace around food. Good luck and hang in there. |

MaryMary - thank you for the welcome. I finally found an available sponsor yesterday afternoon! Gosh that was harder than I though it would be. I'm meeting her today after work to get my food plan and plan my meals for tomorrow. I have been planning 3 Atkins type meals for the last 5 days and eating them and only them at pre set times. I am so looking forward to the structure of HOW OA.
My sponsor last night told me that HOW OA and Greysheet is exactly the same eating plan. Anyway I'll be posting my menus daily and looking for support from the board. On the 150 lb club!!!!! |

Hi Everyone!
I, too, am pretty sure that I'm a sugar/white flour addict. I've been clean for 7 days now and I feel much better. I've been off and on the Atkins WOE since June 2001. The first 6 months went well, stuck to the plan, lost 60 lbs. Then Christmas hit. I thought I could just have a little bit of the sugary stuff, but it really threw me off. I re-gained about 10 lbs over the holidays. I would stick to the diet as a rule, but always managed to cheat a little which would send me on an out of control spiral. Then I would hop back on the wagon and manage to lose it again. Luckily, I never gained back the full 60, but it's sure hard to stay away from the sugar/flour. I always seem to go up 10 then down 10. I really want to reach my goal and the only way I'm going to do it is by staying away from the stuff. I'm aware of the way my body works now, if I eat sugar/flour I only want more, so hopefully I can stay clean and keep going. It's really been helpful to lurk on these boards and see that there are others out there like me, so I thought that maybe if I post my experience it might give someone else some inspiration to get back in charge of their lives too. Good luck everyone! |

Kleek - I was exactly like that with the exception that I COULN'T stop until I had gained it all back and more. After 3.5 years on this board and white knuckling off 46 lbs. I had to admit to myself that I was a food addict. I can't do it alone and the board, wonderful as it is, just isn't enough.
I urge you to do a self inventory and ask yourself if you really know you can do this on your own - or are you powerless over food and need more help that this board can give you. It took me a very very very long time to give up that control and now that I have it seems so silly to think that weighing & measuring food and eating only food I pre planned the night before was somehow showing a lack of moral fiber & a lack of will power. I feel like a huge rock has dropped off my shoulders and I can just let all that pride and sillyness go. My sponsor is a wonderful lady - we hit it off immediately and I spent a wonderful hour last night chatting with her. Gosh we laughed so much! I am NOW looking forward to talking with her everyday and having her guide me through my recovery! Sorry this is probably WAY too much information but I can't tell you how much I think that maybe just maybe I can finally just let the weight issue go because if I stay on plan and eat my great food the fat issue will become a non-issue. |

Hi Meriweather!
Thanks for the reply. Sounds like you're doing really well with your sponsor. I don't know if I can do it alone, but I'm going to try. Before I thought that I could just have a little and then jump right back on plan. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't. I know that I have a problem, but I have a wonderful husband who is very supportive and helpful, and I'm hoping that I can keep going. I've located an OA meeting site, oddly enough it's right across the street from my house, so it's very convenient. I haven't gone to a meeting yet, but at least I know it's close by if I do decide I need it. I've made it through 7 1/2 days without a cheat, I feel great and I want to continue to feel this way. I'll check back on this message board often to see how you are doing. Take care. Karolee |

Welcome Karolee,
Where in Mass do you live? I am from So NH. You are so lucky to have a meeting right across the street. I found the OA meetings to support a low carb approach for the most part although they don't officially endorse any specific food plan. |

Hi MaryMary!
Thanks for the welcome. I'm on the South Shore near the Cape. I've gone camping in Southern NH in Henniker. I love NH, especially the White Mountains, Kancamagus area. You're right, I am lucky to have a meeting site so close. It gives a sense of security just knowing that it's there. I'm not much of a "joiner" as you can see by how long I've been registered but how little I post. It's inspirational though just reading comments from other people. You've done wonderful. I was looking at your picture gallery. You, alone, are an inspiration! Thank you! Take care, Karolee |
