Well, at least that is what I am doing. I love seeing that amount grow. I think I may save for a vacation, or a new wardrobe, or heck, a new car! But, I definately plan on spending it on me, not bills. The bills will get paid some other way, they always do. You are doing just awesome! Over a month of not smoking. We all are doing really well. It is extremely hard to quit smoking. My house smells so much better.....and I guess I do too, lol. My husband is talking about quitting. He now goes outside to smoke so there is no smoke in the house. Keep on quitting!! Jeannie ![]()

Lesser, now you have the right attitude! Spend that money on anything your heart desires! You earned it!!!
TStilborn, sorry to hear your tired. Have you tried a little exercise? I just walk around my block when I get home from work and it perks me up a bit. Congratulations on being able to lower the dose on your patch. Bet2, keep on quitting! You are on your way now. I think that first day is really hard, and you made it! Queenlene, you are such an inspiration. You fought the demon and won! Good work! Everyone is doing so well! I am now smoke free for 1 week, 3 days, 36 minutes and 23 seconds! I have saved $90.22 and have not smoked 360 cigarettes. I am afraid to weigh myself. I guess i will do that tomorrow. I have been snacking on raw veggies instead of smoking. I did get a call from the cardiologist this afternoon. My appointment is August 27th. I could just kick myself for not quitting smoking years ago before I developed health problems. I always had the attitude that 'it won't happen to me'. I hope everyone out there that is still smoking will quit before they develop health problems. Believe me it is no fun........it is very scary! Keep on quitting! Jeannie ![]() |

Jeannie, please let us know how it goes at the cardiologist. I hope you are A-OK. Don't kick yourself, most smokers have that attitude that it won't happen to them. That's part of the big addictive lie. Those little stinkerettes will say anything to get in your mouth.
I am sooo craving either a ciggie or a choc chip muffin of all things. Argh! I guess a diet coke will have to do. I'm almost out of work, maybe I'll go home and go for a run [did I say run? it's really more like a slow waddle] with the puppy, maybe that will help. grrrrrr, I feel all nervous and jumpy. This is the worst episode i've have yet. Need something else to do.... Hope everyone else is doing a lot better |

$161.79 saved 681 cigs not smoked 2D 8 Hours more life to live. Decided to try one of the lo carb chocolate candies on my way home. Maybe that will snap me out of it. Otherwise, I'm going to cave and it's going to be something doughy and sweet, which I don't want to do. |

No, Lesser, no.........sweet and doughy is BAD......LOL. Take some deep breaths and stay strong. When I am tempted to eat something I can't have, I visualize something really nasty crawling on it. (Sorry)
Keep up the good work! You are doing awesome! I am so glad it is friday! It has been a long week at work. It seems like I get more work done because I am not taking cigarette breaks. What do people on their break if they don't smoke? I feel like I am wandering around without a clue when it is break time. I have smoked for so many years, that is what my breaks consisted of...smoking. The cravings are getting further apart. When they hit, they don't seem to last too long. I just need to keep my hands and brain busy. Oh, and my mouth....I must keep my mouth busy. I have been munching on califlower and green pepper strips and I still use the nicorette gum. When I get bored I want to smoke, and since I don't smoke anymore, I want to eat. I am trying to keep the damage under control with the eatting. I will weigh myself tomorrow morning. I forgot this morning until I was already dressed, and everyone knows you don't weigh yourself with clothes on. Only my wedding rings and my earrings.....that's it! Have a great smoke free weekend!! Keep on quitting!!!! Jeannie |

Awesome everybody! Great job dale! woo hoo! Your lungs have been healing up for a whole month! they are surely feeling much better now.
whew - another weekend without lighting up! did y'all survive? I got through my fit on friday with some lo-carb ice cream. Hey, whattya know, chocolate works wonders for getting through those moments. I think I will have this miracle substance called "chocolate" more often. Here's a nice little quote. stolen from someone at quitnet: "How does one become a butterfly? You must want to fly so much you are willing to give up being a caterpiller." 1 month 5 days $174 saved (and spent on a kick ass new outfit) 734 stinkies not smoked 2 day 13 hours more life to live |

Jeannie - congrats! you are proving that it can be done. Keep going!!
I read this yesterday in a book called "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" (a really interesting book btw) The chapter on smoking may have actually sunk into my thick, dense head, now that I'm finally not smoking. Nicotine is literally poison, people. Every puff is punishing your body in a very cruel way. Here are a few choice excerpts: "Nicotine has long been known to be a deadly toxin. A single pin-head sized drop of liquid nicotine, introduced directly into the bloodstream, would be fatal. At the doses normally ingested by smokers, nicotine makes the heart pump faster and work harder... It also constricts the peripheral blood vessels, contributing to circulatory disorders such as Raynaud's phenomenon and hardening of the arteries. And nicotine is not the only ingredient in cigarettes that poses a danger to health. In all, over 4,000 chemical substances have been identified as constituents of cigarette smoke, and at least 43 of these are known to cause cancer in humans...carbon monoxide, benzene, cyanide [DOH!!], ammonia, nitrosamines, vinyl chloride, [we've been smoking vinyl??] radioactive particles [!!!!!], and other known irritants and carcinogens. ..... "......Women cigarette smokers tend to experience menopause earlier [yikes], face a greater risk of osteoporosis after menopause... "...Smoking has a detrimental effect on nutrition. Smokers break down vitamin C about twice as fast as nonsmokers. this can deprive the body of adequate amounts of one of the most powerful and versatile antioxidants at our disposal. Other antioxident vitamins are depleted as well. Cigarette smoke contains high concentrations of nitrogen dioxide ozone, a compound that oxidizes the antioxidant vitamins and is also know to do damage to DNA..." Nothing new here, but somehow seems very real now. Next time you are craving a cigarette, you might as well go out to the tool shed and have sip of paint thinner instead. Keep your quits! |

Great article Leeser! You are right, we have heard it before, but it really does hit home now. It makes me wonder how I have made it as long as I have.......all those cigarettes I smoked.
I am going to start washing walls this weekend. I am sure they are covered with smoke. And the windows in my car....you wouldn't believe the back window. It is all smokey. My house certainly smells better, and I notice my clothes don't smell of smoke anymore. Oh, and get this.....my little schnauzer, he used to wheeze sometimes. He is even breathing better! Makes me feel pretty guilty that he had to breath in all that smoke. It's been 2 weeks and 3 days now. I have saved $153 and not smoked 612 cigarettes! Keep on quitting everyone!! It is so worth it. wow - 5 months is great! Good for you! Hang in there Starz. They have to die off eventually. I hope.
Close to 3 weeks now Jeannie. You are doing so good! Ok, what you said about your schnauzer....also feeling the burn of shame here about what I put my little terrier through. Poor little things, they just put up with anything we do to them and still stay loyal. well, those days are over with. Better days ahead. 42 days |

10 years and 7 months without nicotine!
I can't even stand to smell it! Praise the Lord...I prayed for Him to take away the craving and that is what happened. I had tried to quit many times, on my own. Smoking was my crutch whenever I was upset, talking on phone or driving. I will thank Him the rest of my life. |

I just passed my 2 month quit
That's 1278 cigs I haven't smoked and that astounds me!I would like to stop gaining weight now though. I'm up 11 and its getting so discouraging. I really am not going off plan so much with food choices, not caving to the chocolate thing. It must be the sunflower seeds. |

Congrats on the long quits. 10 years, and 2 months. Awesome awesome. 1M 2W $214 saved 901 ciggies not smoked 3D 3H struggling with weight too, and yes it's very discouraging. I'm up 8 lbs from my lowest weight just before I quit. And it just freeking hovers there, even though I'm staying close to plan. If this keeps up, I'm going to have to exercise - ack! ps. If I never see another sunflower seed again, it won't bother me one bit ![]() |
