Thanks
Hi again. Thanks to Peachy and all for the info. I am using nonfat (over the Moon) milk..only use 4 ounces for 5 carbs in the shakes...use GNC protein powder (5 carb/24 protein grams.) I have been watching my carb intake...keep it under 40...will keep trying. For a person who weighs 165 at 5'4" is the recommended intake about 30 grams carb and 100 grams protein? The book is a bit too formula intensive. Kathy |

I'm still reading Lifeplan. It's a great read, but I find it confusing Dilettante, Hedonist etc.
I found their small book The 30 Day Low-Carb Diet Solution a great introduction to what and how much to eat. I'm working on Lifeplan, because I find it really interesting. Doing ok for eats. Hope everyone had a good week-end! sandy |

Deb, I'm glad you got your hands on a book! I'm sorry I didn't post, but my book is packed away, and I'm not sure where. I have an idea where, but didn't see it. It may be buried in the book basket. We packed up our bookcase so we could move it last month, and everything is still in boxes/baskets. *blush*

Hi again. I'm still struggling with carbs. I know I need a good 3 days to a week eating clean and things will turn around, but I haven't been able to even get through a day yet. My crazy brain is doing all this justifying why I 'deserve' to eat the carbs, but basically I'm just addicted to them. Knowing that really doesn't help though.
I also want to go very low calorie and just get the weight off really quickly, even though it's NEVER worked for me before. I mean, it works, I get the weight off, then I put it back on just as quickly, and probably end up with more bodyfat in the process. It's always seemed easier to me to crash diet than to just be sane and committed to a good healthy plan. I like the thrill of seeing the scale move almost every day. I'm not even weighing myself right now, cause I know I'm not losing and am lucky if I'm not gaining! I have such a hard time accepting that I can't just exercise portion control and maintain my weight, eating moderate carbs and having a cookie or two or some chips and salsa.... I know I definitely fall into the hedonist category but I'm not sure if I can make that work for me either. I'm fine during the day cause I bring food to work and I can distract myself pretty well...but at home in the evening I really want to stuff myself and just lay on the couch in a stupor. Sounds fun, huh?? I'm so scared I'll end up with diabetes like my mother. She was skinny all her life, until she started medication for bi-polar disorder. She just kept gaining and gaining, and seems to be hungry 24/7. She eats WAY too many carbs and will probably end up on insulin eventually. She can barely get around cause her breathing is so labored. It's scary. I can see that I'm in a vicious cycle right now. Gaining weight causes me to get really down, then I eat carbs to feel better, but end up feeling even worse and getting fatter. I know it's probably this way with a lot of us. I'm not good at connecting with people on the boards, but thanks for letting me vent. |

Dharma -- I know exactly how you feel. I was so used to dropping the weight so quickly with a crash diet. Now I'm commited to this as a lifestyle. I'm sure my weight will come around.
As for your mom, I'm sorry that she has to go through the terrible weight gain that go with her meds. My meds made me gain 55 pounds. I know it's just terrible and the carb cravings are just insane. I hope she finds the strength from you to try and reverse her habits. And eating carbs is just what we've been trained to do. Are you having a little bit of carb throughout the day or just binging on them at night? You may need to stock up on some yummy low-carb treats. I always have good cheese, cashews and 85% chocolate in the house in case I get the taste for something at night when the rest of my family is eating junk.

Thanks Peachy.....until recently I was eating carbs all day. Now, I can make it through the day but at night I go for the sugar. I have plenty of healthy low carb snacks available, I just don't choose them!! I will turn this around though. It just takes a few good days usually and I'm back on track.

Dharma -- when I really have a sweet tooth I have half a green apple with some natural peanut butter. It isn't the lowest carb snack, but the pb puts some protein and fat with it which seems to help control my blood sugar. No spike!

Hi Gals,
Dharma I'm like you too. I need a good 2-3 clean days to get my carb activity under control. You can do it! I made Linda Sue's Zuccini Mushroom Lasagna last night. It's really really good. The weather has been so nice here lately, feels like spring is in the air. I sure hope so. I'm tired of winter. I finally finished PP Lifeplan today. A good read, I'd like to own a copy, will check out some used book shops around here. Have a great day everyone. sandy |

Well, I did "better" yesterday, but still had 55 carbs and 1900 calories. Which isn't gonna cut it. No sugar though.
I skipped breakfast this morning, and had a salmon patty and a tomato for lunch. Had 1/4 cup of wasabi peas for a snack. I'm feeling satisfied but from experience I know by tonight I'll be ravenous! I too love Linda Sue's lasagna recipes. I have used eggplant, sliced thin and roasted, in lasagna in place of noodles and that is very good too. Anyone remember right off-hand how many carbs the Hedonist plan recommends?? |

I think that intervention level is 40 -- split up throughout the day, eaten with protein.
Good news for me. Since the 1st of January I've lost 17 lbs. 6 inches off my waist. Yeah! Today is gonna be a little rough for me. It's my birthday and I'm going to splurge! I'm sure I'll see a bump in the scale, but it's gonna be worth it. I just can't go overboard! |

you are allowed 7-10 grams ECC per meal. You can have additional snack for up to 10 ECC, or you can break it dow to two snacks, 5 g each

Well today has been a good day. I am hoping to make it a good March! My girlfriend wanted to blow off working out tomorrow and go out to breakfast instead. I convinced her to go workout. I'm on a roll and I'm not gonna stop! I'm gonna make March a good month! How about you?

Good for you Peachy that is awesome. Happy birthday, sorry I missed it earlier.
I have lost three pounds this week and have not even been that good. I have been around 50-60 carbs a day but have been focusing more on getting the protein in and then I will cut back more on the carbs. I guess I could call what I am doing a reverse Atkins approach. Climbing down the ladder of carbs slowly and the back up the carb ladder slowly with Protein Power. I hate carb crash week so I am going a little slower as to not hit the crash this time around.Deb |

Happy Belated Birthday, Peachy!
Deb, 3 lbs is GREAT! Dharma, hope you had fun! 55 carbs isn't bad at all ~ consider the amount you were eating before, KWIM? Well... Kevin and I planned an off plan day on Sunday, and I've been struggling since. It wasn't an all out carb fest, but I did have a little pasta salad and some sugary stuff. Of course, I retained water immediately. ![]() I'm committing to rereading my PPLP and writing out *my* plan from there. It will reinforce it for me. Hoping we can get a side of beef soon. I get cranky without steak once in a while. ![]()

I'm with you, Sandy. My grocery stock is low... I'm gonna make some chicken breast (my least fave meat, I think)... Maybe chicken broccoli alfredo-ish...
I also do a mini-fast on Fridays (I go until lunchtime before eating), and I think that is messing with me. |

Bailey -- Three pounds is fabulous! I wish that I was losing that quickly. Pulling your carbs down slowly is probably not a bad idea. You never know, maybe that's how many carbs you will be able to eat later in the plan and still lose weight. That would be awesome!
Speedy -- Try to hang on. Is there something you are eating that is triggering you to crave? Can you tell yourself that you will eat protein till you are busting but you won't eat the carbs? HotMama -- I'm not too big on chicken either. I like MEAT! I've added another little mini-meal to my day and I think it's really helping me. I've been making a double batch of protein shake. Then I drink one at 6:45 as I'm walking out the door and then the other at 9:00 while I'm at work. I feel like it jacks me up and gets my motor running early. I just wanted to share my new approach in case it could help someone. I am eating all day long -- but my menu is planned the night before so it is planned eating. |

Peachy Thank-you
Good advice and it has worked in the past. TOM arrived about a week early. It explains a lot (HUGE appetite, cravings). I don't feel on the brink of losing it today, thankfully. That is a terrible place to be. Hate it there. I feel so powerless in that spot. I took Peachy's advice to heart (for me better to eat too much protein than to eat too many carbs) and today I feel I've stepped away from the brink of a binge. whew! Hi there WatchMeShrink! Let us know what you think of the book! Have a great day everyone. sandy

Hey, Sandy,
Glad you're handling the TOM issues. About the brink of TOM cravings, do you find it easier/more helpful to up protein than fat when trying to ward off TOM cravings, or do you up both? (I fight that war every month!) And I've purchased the PP for Life Plan book, but I saw in some PP post that it was recommended to have/read both. Why both? Aren't they essentially the same, just one is more up-to-date? |

I only bought PPLP. I emailed Dr. Eades sometime last year, and he recommended the newer book. It is HUGE!
Lots of good info, though. A lot more than just dietary info. |

I loved both books. PPLP is an easier system when it comes to finding your protein requirements. I love this way of eating -- I feel stronger than I do on Atkins.
Today I went to lunch with my husband (a local holiday so I didn't have to work) and ordered what I thought was going to be a big salad. It was supposed to be like an Italian Julianne salad. It had hardly any meat or cheese. I was so disappointed. I definitely did not get my protein in for lunch. I'll have to supplement with a shake or something. I lost a little more weight! TOM came, left and took some poundage with him. I feel great. My goal is to add pilates everyday. Maybe in a couple of weeks I can buy some new jeans. Mine are falling off me. That is a great problem to have! speedy -- glad to hear that you are off the brink. That's a scary place to be. |
