Happy Valentine's Day!
I'm sitting here at work and I am surrounded by candy! All I want to do is tear into it -- especially since my weight is already up a pound. I really have to stop weighing myself. Ugh. Dinner tonight will be steaks -- my husband is picking some up at Costco. I love the huge juicy steaks from there. I saved a beautiful bottle of red wine , a granache, to have tonight. It has a heart on the label. Cute touch. Lord, Give me strength to stay away from the candy and I'll be fine.

You can do it, Peachy! Just try to remember what sugar does to your body. For me, remembering how my grandmother and aunt died of (sugar gobbling) cancer, very painfully, is *usually* enough. They were both 51 when they died. I'm 40. I plan to do all I can to NOT meet the same fate.
You're doing so well! Don't let that stuff get to you. I'm cheering you on, here. My battle will be with cupcakes this evening. I think I will be okay. You hold me accountable, too, all right? I had 2 egg crepes w/cinnamon & splenda for breakfast, with 2 sausages. 2 coffees w/cream & sweetener again. Haven't had lunch yet, just not hungry at the moment. But I have gobs of meat at the ready when I get the urge to eat. ![]()

Happy Valentine's Day!!
Sorry to be MIA this past week. I was struggling with cravings and it didn't occur to me to come here for support. How silly is that? I've come so far on this journey to health, but sometimes forget basic things, like.....SUPPORT=SUCCESS I'm doing better now. I had to force myself to eat meat (instead of 3 minute chocolate cakes), and I seem to be much better today. I really like this quote from Leo Quote:
I'm going to visit the in laws tomorrow. We come back on Monday. I'm really excited because I love the part of the country where they live (Saskatchewan- known as the armpit of Canada, but honestly I LOVE it there )I am taking protein powder and packets of deli meat to make sure I get my protein. I love visiting them, but every time I go off the rails with the sweets. My mission is to stay steady.... Have a wonderful week-end and I'll check in on Tuesday. sandy

Sandy -- I know you can do it. I like what you said about support=success. That is so true for me as well.
HotMama -- Where did you get your recipe for egg crepes? Is it easy to whip up? Today I had to call the abuse help line on one of my student's families. It's just awful. I feel so terrible about it. I want to dive into some ice cream or chocolate cake. I'm going to have a square of 85% and pretend it's Ben and Jerry's. Emotional eating is how I got to this weight. I know I can do this. |

Sandy, sounds like you are prepared this time! That will help immensely!
Sounds like you need that wine today, Peachy. Egg crepes, hmmm... I just do egg and cream and a pinch of salt. I made them a tad too eggy today. I had a recipe, but I can't find it, I just winged it today. ![]() Here's one from the RR: LowCarbFriends Recipes - Sweet Induction Breakfast - Powered by ReviewPost I wouldn't put sweetener in the crepes if you are filling them with something sweet. Last year for mother's day I made crepes and filled them with real whipped cream with fresh cut strawberries blended in. Delish. |

Thank you for the recipe Renae. Maybe I'll make that one day this weekend to try it out. I usually do protein shakes -- but that sounds like a good food for weekends or after dinner snack. It reminds me a little of that Mock Danish I used to be addicted to.
My LBM went up a pound! I hope it's all muscle! That would explain the craziness with the scale. I know I need to stop weighing, but I just can't! |

I think I'll brave the oopsie roll this week for my dh. He's mostly in his car all day Saturday, and it's hard for him to eat most LC foods on the run. I hope oopsies will help.
YVW, Peachy. I usually save the crepes for something special, but I was just sick of fried eggs. ![]() My stomach is bothering me today. Dh had a stomach bug, so I'm wondering if I finally caught it. Oh well. I had some SF ice cream (yeah, I know, not good), and it felt good on my stomach. |

Hope you are feeling better, honey.
Today I was running around like a madwoman trying to get all my errands done. Now I get to sit back and relax for a minute before it is time to make dinner. I went to Whole Foods today for the first time. WOW! There are so many things. It made my head spin. There was cheese for tasting -- and they had the most beautiful aged cheddar. You know I had to buy some. It ended up being the same price as my husbands plastic Kraft American cheese. I can't wait to have some. Ummm ---- Cheese! |

I'm *much* better, thanks! I don't know what it was, but I never got what dh got. Thankful for that!
The cheese sounds delicious. We don't have a Whole Foods out here, but I'm going to be looking for some greek yogurt in the near future. We get raw milk locally, and I'd love to make raw yogurt. We'll see... |

I'm pretty lucky. I have my regular store with a big organic/healthfood section. Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. There's also this little Greek Produce store that has wonderful food. But I've never even tried Greek Yogurt. Maybe that should be my next purchase. This week I bought low-carb tortillas at the store and it made my lunch so yummy. I used to have a low-carb store here too -- but it's gone with the fad. Too bad.

Hi Bailey! I am not diabetic, although I have had plenty of *low* blood sugar episodes in my life. So much that I bought my own glucose monitor. I am much more stable on this plan, even with the occasional wine with dinner.

Hi there,
Well I survived the long week-end with the out-laws. My eating was good(not great), but I'm back at it today. I hope everyone had a good long week-end too! Bailey I'm not diabetic either, but if you do a search for protein power (can't post the link here as I think they sell stuff) there are discussion forums and there's one for diabetes there. good luck! sandy |

Thank you ladies for your replies. I am going to look for one of their books tonight.
The only thing is that I heard the weight loss is slow on this plan is that true? Deb |

Grr! My post got eaten!
It's definitely slower than Atkins induction, but *much* easier. I still do eat induction-like from time to time, but I like to indulge in cream in my coffee and wine with dinner a couple times a week. I've had a few grapes here and there this week. I lose *around* a pound a week. If I get impatient, I can always bump the carbs back down. But so far I'm all right with this. The point is to make it a lifetime change. I'm somewhere on the border between the Dilletante plan and the Hedonist plan. (If you read the book, you'll get it) No grains for me, though! I think if you take a more purist approach, you'll probably lose much faster (no dairy, no wine, no coffee, etc.) |

Hello everyone!
Speedy -- It's always hard for me to stay on plan when we have company coming over for more than one meal. Every time my parents come into town I gain at least 5 pounds (most of it water -- I'm sure). They just want to eat every good fattening food in Chicago. HotMama -- I just love the blogs too. Do you have a screen name I would recognize? I'm over there all the time. Bailey -- I think that the weight comes off a tad bit slower, but I'm not starving and shaking either. It seems to keep me from cravings and then 'cheating' and falling into a quart of ice cream face first. I'm having a good day today. It's my day off from exercising and I'm making a superquick dinner for the family. I think I'm gonna have an omelette. So I have time to goof around on the computer for a few minutes. ![]() |

Peachy, I'm a quiet one there. I just lurk and soak up the info.
I did email him when I was pregnant last year, but that's about it. I guess I could sign up. Do you read their boards? I haven't, I didn't know they existed until last week! |

Hi Ladies,
HotMama and Peachy I love his blog!! I'm hooked. Bailey I honestly don't know if I'm losing slower than other plans.... I'm kind of a slow loser anyway, but I don't care I need a plan that I can live with and the key for me is.....drum roll please... NOT TO GAIN IT ALL BACK!! It doesn't matter how fast I lose it, if I put it all back on! Which by the way, I've done more than once in my life ![]() How do you pronounce Dr Eades?? Is it eeds - as in seeds (one syllable) or eedes (2 syllables) like - ee dess??? sandy |

Started PP Recently
Hi: Let me know if you have any pointers. I started PP about 10 days ago. Have maybe lost 1 pound. I excercise pretty strenuously about 3-4 days a week (3 to 4 miles on the treadmill in an hour at an incline followed by nautilus). I did have a cupcake on Saturday...but other than that I have been pretty good. I really have an urge to eat in the evening although I am not necessarily hungry. My library is holding the 30 day menu book and this may be what I need..But example of what I am eating follows:
Breakfast, Protein shake and coffee Lunch, Protein shake, two pieces of ham, cheese stick cottage cheese with 1/4 cup blueberries for snack before workout Dinner: Protein panckake from book, 1/4 cup blueberries, handful of walnuts I really feel the need for some sort of crunch...ideas other than the rye krisp crackers? Thanks in advance for any tips you can provide. |

What kind of protein shake? Are you hitting your minimum protein # per meal? My protein shakes are around 20-24g per shake, I need a little more than that. Plus, I think real meat is more thermogenic than protein shakes. What about fats, you're not using any lowfat dairy products are you?
Are you sure about your carb counts? I think (still haven't dug out my book) he recommends no more than 10g carb per meal/total 30 a day. If I remember correctly. You can really rack up the carbs with cottage cheese (although it's an EXCELLENT food!). |

Okay, I had some homemade (lower carb) chili the last 2 days, and lost a pound each day! I'm wanting more of this chili, but I'm all out of ground beef now!
I have to make enough for the family, so it was a lot. 5lbs ground beef, 1 onion, 1 can diced tomatoes, and 1 industrial sized can of tomato sauce. LOTS of my homemade chili powder (which was a tad heavy on the garlic and ground red chilis - hot and spicy!). The first night I had about 3C (we have smaller bowls), and yesterday I had 1 bowl for lunch. I also wanted to share my lemon chicken recipe! It wasn't *actual* lemon chicken, but it was good. I didn't want plain stir fry. 2.5lbs B/S chicken breast 2 lbs broccoli (I use frozen) Oil to fry in (I used coconut oil) Wine to deglaze pan Ground ginger Garlic 1/2 - 3/4 C lemon juice Splenda to taste 1/2 t Xanthan gum I fried the whole (frozen) chix brst (sprinkled w/ginger & garlic) in coconut oil until lightly browned and cooked through. Set them aside to slice. Deglaze the pan (I used Mead), then add broccoli, and water if needed. While broccoli is steaming in the juices, slice the chicken. Then mix lemon juice with splenda to taste. Add the chicken to the cooked broccoli, sprinkle a scant 1/2 tsp Xanthan over the solid food, stir, then add the lemon. You can turn off the heat, and wait for the xanthan to thicken (it doesn't need heat). It makes a nice light glaze rather than a thick, heavy sauce. It was delicious! No leftovers for me today. ![]() |

Korourke -- You menu looks pretty good -- but I would watch the cottage cheese too. It can be a killer carb-wise, especially if you are not using a measuring cup. I use ricotta cheese as a snack - but I couldn't fit the berries in at the same time.
As for crunchy there are some parmesian cheese crackers at Netrition that make my mouth water. I've tried to make my own -- but I can't seem to get the hang of it. Visit the recipe section here for some good ideas. HotMama -- That chili sounds really good. Do you have an estimated carb count? I lost another pound today! Yippee. It's been a while since I lost a pound a day. I hope it stays off. |

Peachy, I put the whole recipe into fitday, and it made about 6 qts of chili, so I went with that. It broke down to 12g carbohydrate per cup. I had 3 cups that first night - pretty high! Maybe I needed a little extra carb infusion? I'm not questioning, I'll take the loss.

Hi there.
I'm a big fan of the M.Eades blog. I also thought PPLP was one of the best nutrition books ever! I do follow Protein Power mostly, although I've gained 10 lbs since August cause I stopped low-carbing. I guess I oughta be glad I didn't gain even more! This week has been hard. I think I just tried to eat too little food, and ended up overeating at night. Plus, I'm a wine enthusiast myself. I just think I'm gonna have to limit my wine to weekends in order to lose anything. DH and I are going to Cancun this summer, and I REALLY want to lose 15 lbs by then. I'm 5'6 1/2", 50 years old, weigh 160, wear a size 10. 145 lbs would be a great weight for me, but I keep going down, up, down, up over and over again. I started using Fitday again this week, which always makes a big difference. Keeps me accountable and sometimes is like a slap in the face when I have a bad day. My plan is to try doing 40 ECC a day, and 1400 calories and see what happens. I've never really tried this before -- I always pretty much crash diet to lose, but at my age that really messes with my hormones. So far this week I've average 1900 calories, so I gotta get with the program!! It's nice to see an active PP thread here!! |
