Why did Jesus fold the linen burial cloth after His resurrection?

The gospel of John (20: 7) tells us that the napkin, which was placed
over the face of Jesus, was not just thrown aside like the grave
clothes. The Bible takes an entire verse to tell us that the napkin
was neatly folded, and was placed at the head of that stony coffin.

Is that important? You'd better believe it!
Is that Significant? Absolutely!

In order to understand the significance of the folded napkin, you have
to understand a little bit about Hebrew tradition of that day.

The folded napkin had to do with the master and servant, and every
Jewish boy knew this tradition. When the servant set the dinner table
for the master, he made sure that it was exactly the way the master
wanted it. The table was furnished perfectly, and then the servant
would wait, just out of sight, until the master had finished eating,
and the servant would not dare touch that table until the master was
finished.

Now if the master had finished eating, he would rise from the table,
wipe his fingers, his mouth, and clean his beard, and would wad up
that napkin and toss it onto the table. The servant would then know
to clear the table. For in those days, the wadded napkin meant,
"I'm done". But if the master got up from the table, and folded his
napkin, and laid it beside his plate, the servant would not dare
touch the table, because the servant knew that the folded napkin
meant, "I'm not finished yet."

The folded napkin meant,
"I'm coming back!"
Mary, I'm glad that you brought up this subject and addressed this issue of the folded napkin, and why Jesus would have done so, after his resurrection.

This is how I understand it, [from what you have meantioned here]. This clarifys the fact that the master, [who is Christ himself resurrected from the dead], was not done or finished with his work at hand. Sure, he became the lamb sacrifice for the sins of mankind, but this shows that that was not his only mission to the world. And if that is significant, [by the master showing the folded napkin in the tomb, just after his resurrection,] which I'm sure it is, then we know that He is not finished with his work and has much to do with us christians and mankind in general, before He returns, [which is his second coming]. For me, looking at the picture of the folded napkin in the tomb, indicates that Christ wanted to leave a strong impression to us that: 1. He died, has risen, and still lives; 2. He is the master, showing the servant that He is not finished; 3. He has much to accomplish, his work is not done; 4. We as servants have to "wait" until the master has finished fulfilling his purpose, his plan, his work, his purpose for being sent by God into the world.

In the meantime, we as servants of the master have much to do, while we wait, in accomplishing what God has planned for us and his people. And when He is finished, we will know it and be ready to serve our master in heavenly places. Oh, what a joy that will be! Return Lord Jesus, amen.

Ladies, I hope you don't mind my babblings, I just wanted to see what God was saying here, [looking from a different perspective, and viewpoint; from my own understanding of scripture], to gleam from what Mary was touching on. It's wonderful to get into the meaning of things, from studying the word and by doing that, we can begin to learn a little more about what God is trying to say to us, in a fresh new way.

God Bless You... & Kisses

My mom is 68 and she thought the same thing but God is helping us both. We are learning how to do discipline without spanking which is so hard. Because to be truthful I believe we should discipline as the word tell us to. But we are not allowed to so it is hard to do time outs when they are screaming. All we are allowed to do is time outs and take away privileges and for older children add more chores. Anyway enough of that WE DO ENJOY THE CHILDREN!

Berta, thank you!!! I would love to study Jewish customs, and broaden my horizon of studying the word with a much wider understanding of scripture. Do you have any suggested websites that I could visit and explore my bible studying???

Oh, I was talking to my mother tonight and she found out that we have new landlords, to this building complex and she thinks they are christians. Mom wants to start a bible study, and there is a separate building in the courtyard that would be ideal for this purpose. Originally, it was intended for rental use for hosting partys and special events; now I don't know what it's used for, but she believes that God is prompting her by the holy spirit, to inquire about such things.

Please pray that if God intends for her to start a bible study here, that He will provide this building for that purpose, if God wills it, in Jesus's name, amen. Thanks.

God Bless You,

Tammy actually I don't know of a specific one. But all you need to do is type in jewish customs in the address bar and it will bring up many different sites to look at.
It is really interesting. What did we do before the internet?

CONGRATULATIONS PATTY
PATTY, PORTION CONTROL IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO. THAT IS IN ANY PROGRAM. AS ALL FOOD HAVE FAT & CALORIES WHETHER IT IS protein,SWEETS, OR CARBS AND THEY ALL ADD UP!! SOME ARE FAT FREE BUT STILL HAVE THOSE MISERABLE CALORIES!!

AND IF WE EAT MORE THAN WE BURN WE GAIN WEIGHT. IT IS THAT SIMPLE!
KEEP IT UP I AM VERY PROUD OF YOU!!!

Berta thanks so much Sweetie. I know this is what I have to do and God is helping me with this. No more fad diets for me. If we eat like we are supposed to, then we wouldn't be heavy in the first place. I am so proud of what you have done, too, Berta. In fact you have inspired me into doing the portion control.

I think it is just wonderful that you are having a party for your Mom. Henry's Aunt that lives in California is going to be 95 in June and we are supposed to go out there for her Birthday, Lord willing and the creek don't rise.
