Jackie: Sorry, hon, can't say I have! I have the occasional whey protein shake (made from the powder form), and that's about it!

Hi Jackie,
I've used both hemp and rice protein powders. Hemp has a greenish-brown color to it and tended to turn my smoothies that color, no matter what else I put in them, and that bothered me, as I am very picky about my smoothies in terms of color and texture and I have a hard time trying to drink a smoothie that tastes like strawberry and cherry but looks like - well, never mind .I tried rice protein powder only once and it wasn't too bad, but it did have a slightly glutonish ricey aftertaste to it (like when you eat very sticky rice) which I found a bit disturbing but, again, I'm very picky about that. I wasn't doing lowcarb at the time but used it as an alternative to whey because I was trying to go vegan. I wonder if that rice aftertaste would trigger carb cravings... The one I use now I can highly recommend. It's Nature's Way Energy unsweetened, unflavored protein powder and it's great. It makes shakes very thick and doesn't have a grainy texture or an aftertaste (at least none that bother me and that's saying a lot :lol The base of it is, I believe, soy protein, so if you can't tolerate soy it's probably not for you. But it's the best I've found and I've tried a lot of powders!Tam |
