hello!

hi there

I have been reading the Portein Power Lifeplan book. Although I'm not new to LC by any means, I really like what Dr Eades and Mary Dan have to say. I also visit both of their blogs regularly and Low Carb CookWorx has some nice recipes.

I suppose what I eat leans towards being a purist.. but unfortunately my store doesnt carry everything I need so I cant always get organic or grass fed. I dont eat any grains (other than the very very occasional carbquik recipe - like once a year lol) but do eat some organic dairy products. I started out on Atkins, so Im very used to that.. and now am incorporating as much of PP as I can.

I really like the whole 7-10 net carbs per meal and 7-10 carbs total for snacks thing. This seems to me to be the thing that was missing from Atkins. I believe there are alot of people eating all or most of their carb allotment in one sitting and saying hey - why am I not losing weight? I think moderating your carb intake at each meal is vital to keeping bloodsugars steady.

I also love the nutritional aspect. They really go into detail about vitamins and minerals... love it. I believe very strongly that deficiencies not only can cause disease, but cause weight issues. I feel as strongly about magnesium as they do.

Last but not least, eating organic/grass-fed whenever possible seems so logical to me. And with all that is available, I think we should try to do it as much as we can. Prices are coming down now that more it if is around, so hopefully in the long run that wont be as much of an issue for people.

I just really really like what I read from them. While I dont agree with some of their personal beliefs, I do agree with the majority of what they say.

Long story short, I mostly post in the Main Lobby and recipe threads, but will be popping in here every once in a while

Agree, Mina, liked the idea of 7 carbs per meal, and 27 Gm protein three times-also really like the way they explain how our bodies react to what we eat-pretty much right on for me. Like you, I'll be popping in here once in a while

I found fascinating what he has to say about how our bodies may react to grain, dried beans etc.

I have been particularly interested in this (from PP lifeplan):

Quote:
...plant proteins, called lectins, cause trouble once absorbed into the bloodstream because their structure is so similar to the structure of body proteins; some of them are like proteins in joint surface tissues, others like the filtering apparatus of the kidneys.. Because they are the same but foreign, the lectins attract the attention of the immune-defense system, which attacks them; unfortunately, once stimulated, the immune system may then mistakeenly attack the body tissues they resememble...
basically, in some of us, this may be the reasons for autoimmune disorders. Our body attacking itself because it thinks some proteins are foreign invaders (due to having a reaction to grains etc in the past).

My ds, who is thin as a greyhound, gets asthma from all grains, and most dairy, most of what is in the Eades lifeplan applies to him, too. Know this WOE is really healthy.

hI, ya'll,
I have been doing PP since 2005, sometimes off, is why I have taken so long to lose the rest of my weight. I have lost 15lbs, 25 to go to meet my first goal.

It is a great plan, I just have to stay with it.

Maybe we could encourage each other? I am new to the site, so I can't PM anyone now.

A diet penpal(s) would really facilitate my staying on program due to the accountablilty/support we would get/give.
