Eades fan

Just checking in, am sticking with a combination of protein Power and Atkins:
Inasmuch:
protein Power, first and last "meal" of the day is a 100calories no carb protein shake-27 Gm protein, to make sure I get enough protein in the day.
Atkins-my solid food meals are meat and small amount of vegetables, once or twice a day with extra butter or fat.
Staying in ketosis.
Any variation, as in when I am away from home, I just try to really stick with Atkins principles.
This seems to work for me.
I really like Eades books, writing, so much of what they say makes my weight issues make sense, finally.

Hi, Elaine:

I've lost 28.8 lbs. since Oct. 1st on PP. (I've been low-carbing since May, and I was slowing down big time. Last month I'd lost just about 7 lbs and I had to work very hard for every oz! With this woe, I've been "whooshing" like crazy.

It seems my pattern is 5-7 days of incredible wt. loss, then I stabilize and then gain some major water retention. But I stick with it, and the extra water finally goes (the first time, it took 10 days! (Even with that 10 day battle, I still lost 28+ lbs so far this month). So it seems my "usual" wt. loss pattern is just accelereted with PP - but so is the wt. loss!

I can't say enuf good things about great info in the two books, Protein Power and the Protein Power Life Plan! I'd recommend anybody struggling with Atkins or South Beach, or looking to transition from a low-fat, low-carb woe to seriously consider Protein Power.

Wow-I am so impressed, MissM, with your progress. I am doing so much better since I make sure I have enough protein every day, thanks to the PPfor Life, I finally get it.
Also went back and reread some stuff in DANR and picked up some info I had forgotten, so between the two I sort of feel I can really lose this weight and keep it off. I have been yo-yoing for decades.
Hang in there.

Elaine and Heather: Thanks so much! Right now, I'm doing it AGAIN - I whooshed 2 days in a row, hit my lowest on Monday, then on Wednesday the water retention started. Nuts to that!

All I can do is fight it off...this is going to be a long-term problem, I think...but that's nothing new! Throughout my adult life, I've had overnight water gains that are incredible, but I've learned that as long as I stick with my low-carbing and tweak amts a bit, it will eventually come off again! But it IS aggravating!

Can join you in the gain-stall-loss cycle, think because I lost quite a bit for 2 weeks, (8 lbs) my body is "adjusting" or whatever the h#$@ it does, and I am stuck this week, It would be likely that I lose again next week. Oh, well, we are all different, and that seems to be the way I do things. Hang in there, it will pass.

Elaine: I do this so much, one would think I'd be used to it by now. But it really ticks me off when I get "this close" to a certain goal, and then go backwards for awhile. It's not even a plateau, in the true sense of the word, but a complete reversal in which I start gaining again.

Anyway, I keep tinkering with the numbers, read all I can on plateaus and stalls but have yet to find anything that mentions this "stop, reverse gears" phenomenon!!!

How are you doing this week, hon?

Doing better, last week was a gain-stall. And I wasn't feeling very good-but when I totalled up the week, the average carb and cal was ok. Maybe I just have to have a no loss week now and then, I remember hearing years ago that every 3rd week in long term dieting, is a no-lose week.
Am going to try and keep a journal on this and see if that could be true. Anyway, doing better, have to have a no carb whey shake to make sure I get enough protein today.
Gosh, you have done so well-95 lbs, wonderful!!

Elaine: A "gain-stall"...that is a most appropriate term for what happens to me, too. I never stall at the same wt. Nope, I have "gain-stalls"!!!!

Btw, I use FitdayPC (the purchased version) so I can log my menus and activities. Makes low-carb life so much easier! I like the calendar, because it shows all totals for each day; the end of the week shows the averages for everything: proteins, fats, and carbs. Very helpful!

Scale moved .5 lb, maybe I'm in motion again. Have to go to next town for MDs appts, etc, so will be eating out-thinking salad, then some chicken when I get home, some protein shakes am and pm to do the PP thing...so it goes, most days. Hope your day is good.

Nitenurse - how do you make your protein shakes? Just curious, because you said they are zero carbs. I do have 0 carb protein powder - but the only thing I can think of is to mix it with water and I don't think I would like the taste. Anyway, if you could let me know how you make your protein shakes - I would appreciate it!

Divine Miss M - I have read several of your posts and think you are just wonderful! It's great that you discovered that Protein Power really works for you! So, you find that if you eat at least 1/2 your body weight in protein - that it really helps with weight loss? I'm not used to eating a lot - and protein fills me up really quickly. For my weight, I would have to eat about 140 grams of protein a day. I will try hard to eat all that, but might have a hard time. That's why I'm thinking about the protein shakes. Also wondering how many meals and snacks that you eat a day?

I get a zerocarb protein shake powder from Netrition. I mix it with water, add some extra stevia,in a blender, and I like it fine. I use the chocolate-the vanilla not so much, it needs some extra flavor, like the davinci stuff.
The shakes help me get my vitamins and other pills down, they are supposed to be taken with food.
Hope you find what you lilke.

Elaine: I went up by .4 today after that 3 lb. Whoosh. Not much, but still aggravating.

Thanks for mentioning the whey protein shakes...I tend to forget about then. I use two brands, the most recent "Designer." I'll try to incorporate one shake a day for the next few days. I've decided I'll try Stillman's for awhile...maybe a few days, maybe more or less. It depends on whether it helps shake this wt. down a little more.

Flower: Hon, I just want to let you know that I responded to you in the "Shake It Up to Shake it Down" thread!Btw, I generally use ice water with my whey protein shakes, but sometimes - very rarely - I'll use 8 oz. of low-carb milk. I have to be careful with milk, it stalls me. But half-n-half doesn't!

P.S.to Flower: But I wouldn't use 8 oz. of half-n-half to make a shake! I use just a few tbsp. in my morning tea!

For some reason, I lost a post...still staying with eating plan, watching my protein intake every day, remainder of food pretty close to Atkins. Journaling everything to identify my stumbles. Pretty happy, lost 9 lbs this past week. Probably won't continue to be the much next month, but expect it to be down, and survive the holidays thanks to Eades, Atkins, and IF.

Last week I wasn't so careful about getting the protein in, and today my scale is stuck-so this week will go back to journaling, making sure I get the 3 servings of protein, and see how it goes, even through t-day.

Elaine: I'm still hovering around the same wt., still doing the gain-stall/loss thing. It's a bit annoying, but I'm concentrating on "non-scale" losses to keep up my spirits. I can't seem to find the right protein amt. to get that scale moving.

I did drop a few lbs. over the weekend, working back to my new low but I'm still not quite there. Now Hormonal Flux is approaching so I doubt I'll see it this week. It would be nice if the Whoosh Fairy came to visit and gave me some more scale losses before November ends!

Hi! I actually spoke to Dr. Eades for about an hour on the phone way back in 2001. It was when he 1st came out with pentabosol. I had some questions about it, and called him. I left a message and he called me back later that day. His son lives in Massachusetts so we had a wonderful chat. He's the real deal!

Elaine: Hello, girl! I had a hard month, though I stayed on plan. Those gain-stalls kept fighting with me. But today I did it - I hit my 100 lb. goal!!!

I do have more to go, but this is a major milestone!!!

And how are you doing, hon?

Winslow: Thank you so much for telling us about your very positive experience with Dr. Eades! Protein Power is a great lc woe!!! (I wish I had known more about it years ago!)

Windslow, what is pentabosol??
Divine-survived the holiday with mostly good results, back on the horse (protein power and low carb). Made all the guests take the carbs home with them lol. Won't weigh til Monday to see how I did, but think it's going to be alright. Super double congrats on the weight loss-what a great milestone.
Best to everyone.

Hi. Dr. Eades sold pentabosol in 2001. The tablet are delicious. The powder was ok, but much of it was wasted in the bottom of the cup. I didn't notice that it helped weight loss, but it did help break a plateau.

There are several LCF threads. Here's one, but most would be from 2001:

Hi Everyone,

My name is Debbie and I've been checking out your thread and would love to have a group of PP people that can help me.

I've been mostly following Atkins since July of 2007 and have lost a decent amount of weight, would love to lose more and know that it'll probably take another six months to get where I'd like to be. Also feel like PP is more along the line of how I need to eat, now and forever.

So,that being said.... I'd love to hear from all of you and appreciate any tips to get me on track for PP.

Have a great night!

Welcome Deb-personally, the fact that I try to make sure of daily, is that I eat enough protein, figuring my personal number to be 27 gm three times a day. That works with a protein nocarb shake that gives me that much per serving. I drink that am and pm in addition to the protein I eat at lunch and dinner, if my intake isn't enough at those meals . Meat would be about 5 oz. Got those numbers from the protein power lifeplan book, lot of info is on Eades website.
Good luck. I sure feel better when I do this.

Welcome Deb and Jabbok! We're not a very active thread - it doesn't seem many people follow PP. I know I didn't try it until a month ago, starting Oct. 1st!

The first thing I'd recommend is getting both of their books: Protein Power and Protein Power Life Plan. You can order them from amazon.com

Elaine: How are you doing???

I am doing ok, this past month has just reinforced the wisdom of making sure I get enough protein-when I study the labels of packaged foods and figure out the amount of protein per serving-it usually isn't much. So I am back to the hamburger patties at home and my nocarb protein shakes to make sure I get enough in, in the day.
I bought the original protein power book when it first came out, the Life plan really expanded it for me. Guess I was just ready for the information, it was like a light going on. Would really recommend the books, I need to read them occasionally.
I really feel so much better, so much stronger when I eat this way-so I'll be around, even if I don't post some days when I'm gone, I always check back in. Keep coming back, everyone, I really want to see this post stay active. (Even if there aren't many of us posting, I see there are quite a few folks reading the posts)
Elaine

Yippee! I dropped 5 lbs. overnight. Darned if it hasn’t been water retention (well, at least some of it; who knows about the other 5 lbs?) I’m still above ticker by 5 lbs…yep, I actually gained that much this whole week! No cheating, just weird stuff going on! That Lasix really helped!!!

For the past few days, I’ve been on Atkins 72. Once I get this extra wt. off, I’m back to Protein Power’s Intervention Level.

Atkins72 is akin to something mentioned in PP - e.g, that eating fats AND proteins isn't harmful (in fact, the exact opposite), and that not having much in the Carb Dept. won't hurt, either. As long as we get in both proteins AND the "good" fats (avoiding the polys and such), we'll be fine, healthy, cholesterol levels can and should drop, etc.

I've been thinking about that, so I thought, "Well, what they're saying NOW is similar to what Atkins did back in 72 for his first week of Induction." That's why I decided I'd try it, since I've been losing and gaining the same lbs. repeatedly for weeks now!

Like you, Elaine, I don't just stall - no, I always have these reversal "stall-gains." I'm trying to find a way to stop them...right now, I'd consider an old-fashioned stall something to be envied!!!
