Dharma, I worry also about getting ample protein in when IFing. I've done it a couple of times with no problem with hunger because in the past 6 weeks or so my appetite has really been curtailed. I credit this a lot to the new mind set I have after reading Dr. Thompson's book on clycemic load. Seems like I have to over stuff myself to get the protein in that PP says I need for minimum. Not good.

It also appears like ones are not truly sticking to low carb when eating during their window. Isn't that defeating the aim of making LC a way of life and losing desire for all those high carby things? Just a thought.

I may still do the 24/24 IF that Eades spoke of but only once in awhile.

That's true - I have not been low carbing while IFing either. But I guess it depends on what your definition of low carb is too. I don't eat over 100 carbs a day right now, and that is still considered "low" carb. But I prefer to not eat over 60, and I've gone over that while IFing because I can "get away with it."

So, that's not a good thing. I have been saying I'm gonna start eating a protein snack several days a week, and I'm hoping that will help get my carbs back down to a healthier level for me.

I don't want to give up IFing though because if just feels more "right" for me physiologically. Just gotta work on it some more.

I'm not sure if you are understanding the PP you have to do the formula's that are in the book. That will tell you exactly how much protein is allowed based for your weight, lean body mass,height etc. The tables in the middle of the will then break down what it would look like through out the day. Mine is at 112 grams a day, but you break it down throughout the day.

Actually, I'm not doing PP at the moment. I'm doing IF (intermittent fasting, which I first heard about on Dr. Eades blog--in fact he has a new IF post today) and am just concerned about getting sufficient total protein for the day.

I do think PP is a great book. Good luck with it!

I just finished the book and it was really good. Like all the lc books I've read, there were a few points where I said "that wont work for me!" but it did fill a few holes left in Eat Fat Get Thin (especially the trace minerals-potassium info).

This is a great addition to any lc library and the recipe section is good too

Just curious, is anyone here still doing Protein Power? Would love to find a "buddy" for help and support along the way. I'm feeling a bit burned out with Atkins right now and want to change programs to see if I can stay on track a little better.

I am not doing a pure protein power. I mix my stuff up and I am still mainly following Eat Fat Get Thin. One thing with protein power is it does allow small amounts of whole grains, but I have to avoid that stuff like the plague. I did use the book to calculate my minimum protein requirements (around 80-90), and I have started using the morton's lite salt which they recommend. It did help my leg cramps finally stop.

I AM doing PURE Protein Power... No Atkins for me.....

I disagree with folks who think it's interchangeable with Atkins...

There's no carb ladder with PP..... It's Phase I (28-40g net carbs per day) and Phase II (48-60g net carbs per day).. For maintenance you do start gradually adding carbs until you find the level at which you can maintain...

I'd be happy to be your buddy.... I do eat some (not many) grains.... As long as you stay within your carb limits you are ok..

Also (and I'm going to find where it is written) the Eades DO recommend that you DO NOT exceed your protein requirement by huge amounts.

It's been a while since I posted on this area, but wanted to thank you for the information. I am gearing up on starting PP. I really need more variety in my diet, but also need to contine losing weight.
I keep getting stuck and wandering off track, so I think this is the way to go. Lost a few pounds this last month, but found them ALL again this weekend when I had a major carb and junk food weekend. Started out deciding I was going to have just one meal that I've been craving insanely and before I knew it, I had couldn't stop eating! Got back on track the following day, but I know it'll take me all week to loose again. My hunger was never satisfied no matter what I ate.
Anyway, if you're still interested, I would love to have a support buddy!

Well I'm back now, and I'm doing 100% Protein Power. IFing didn't work for me in the long run. I'm having much better control over my food now that i'm eating 3 meals a day. Sometimes I have a small snack at night too.

Protein Power is really pretty straight forward. Find your Protein requirements, split it up between your meals, and eat between 7 to 10 grams of carbs each meal for Phase One, more if you've moved into Phase Two. That's about it. Don't add excessive amounts of fats, but you don't have to limit foods based on how much fat they have either.

M. Eades blogged about the new book "Good Calories, Bad Calories". I have it on order (I preordered) and it's supposed to arrive next week. I can't wait!!! Anyone have it already??

My weight crept up the last month, and I now need to lose 15 more pounds to be at goal. I discovered that a yeast overgrowth, plus too much progesterone cream was making me have BAD cravings. Now that I've gotten those under control I am able to stick to plan much easier. I restarted on the 24th. My goal is to lose 5 pounds per month for the next 3 months. I think I'll just post my progress here. Hope others will join in!!

Hi everyone!
Glad to see some new faces here and hope to get this thread moving again! Also hope to get some of the "senior" PP members back on with us as well!
I've been doing OK this week and as I thought, it has taken me most of the week to get out of my system my (both physically and mentally) my carb overload of the previous weekend. I have been having an Atkins shake for breakfast and Tuna sandwich on low carb bread w/ lettuce and tomato for lunch, and then follow with a protein - usually chicken and veggie for dinner the last few days. I'm not as hungry as I thought I'd be and love having my sandwich. Since my shake is low net carb, I like saving my extra carb for lunchtime. Still tweaking my food choices and when time allows this weekend, I'll make a pot of vegie soup to have for lunch availability.
Dharma, just curious.... Did you do PP before? How much did you loose and how steady was it? I find with Atkins that I stall every few weeks and then loose a lb or two.
Mayberryfan, welcome aboard!! (Low or lower) carb works! Hope PP works well for you! It's always a shame that it's not as much fun getting rid of the pounds as it was gaining it!!
Hope to see you both here often! I'm all over the boards, looking and getting information and seeing what works for everyone. It's a learning process, but we're all headed in the right direction... Downward!

Hi Deb. Well I didn't really do strict PP; I've done strict Atkins and yes the weight loss was not really steady but it did move in the downwards trend most of the time. I think PP is doable for life, and I don't think it's THAT much different than Atkins really, except there's no induction in PP.

Hi wifez - I just came back to this board after a break. I really do also love M.Eades blog. Did you read today's? It was excellent and helped remind me that I don't have to STARVE to lose weight. I liked EFGT too but I switched cause when I start thinking I have to consciously add fat to everything I tend to overeat!! The foods that I like the most already have plenty of fat, so for me just focusing on the protein and net carbs works best. I see the EFGT thread has gotten busy too!! I'd love to get this thread going as well.

I'm eating dinner at Red Lobster tonight. I'm determined to stay within my carb limits too. I'll have a glass of white wine with dinner. I'm thinking salmon tonight cause it's been awhile since I've had any. I always just ask for veggies or salad instead of the rice or potatoes. The hardest part is not eating the cheese biscuits!!!

I actually like lean meats so I do have to make an effort to add fats. Plus my headaches disappear when I have a higher fat percentage. I can understand the cheese biscuit temptation...LOL...good luck!

My new Protein Power plan

Okay I'm starting a new plan today. Still PP, but changing it up a bit.

Monday thru Thursday:

No breakfast, eat lunch and dinner between 12 and 8.
Per meal: 15 ECC, 30 grams protein, total 1,000 calories

Friday thru Sunday:

30 ECC, at least 60 grams protein, total 1,500 calories, no particular eating schedule.

This averages to a little over 1200 calories per day, which I think will finally allow me to lose some weight.

I also have stopped using progesterone cream which I believe is making me hungry and causing bloating. Hopefully I have no bad symptoms from stopping!!

Sometimes I think having schedules with food is bad, but the reality is that Monday thru Thursday I do the same things every day and it will be easy to follow this schedule and allow me more food on the weekends, which is always my downfall.

What's everyone else's plan??

Did NOT make it yesterday.....I was fine until DH brought out the almonds as we were watching tv. I mindlessly ate handfuls of the darn things so I probably ate double the calories I had planned on eating. My only hope is that all that fat and fiber may not be 'quite' as bad.....night eating is still so challenging!!

Wifez I love salt and have never really worried about it. M. Eades even says it's not really bad. Have you seen this thread?

I'm not worried about it raising my blood pressure, in fact that is now down to 134/78 (down from 145/95 or something horrible like that).

It is just making me PUFFY!!!

How funny!!!! Btw Wife I like your blog!

Decided to sneak in a weigh today - DOWN 2 1/2 LBS

My plan is actually working. Finally. I believe there are 2 factors at play: One, appetite suppression from keeping my carbs under control (finally).
Two, not using progesterone cream. I hope I can do without for awhile!!

I started reading "Good Calories, Bad Calories" yesterday and I can tell I'm gonna love it. Good stuff. I wanna kiss that guy for writing it!! I'm pulling for it to be a best seller, and then hopefully people won't argue with me quite so much when I talk about low carb, etc.

Yeah..it is. That is so sad because Protein Power was such a good help for me. I love Dr. Mike's blog and I tell people to get his book all the time.

I also want the "Good Calories, Bad Calories" book, but I just ordered some low-carb cat food, so my Amazon budget is spent for the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for visiting my blog. I got some good feedback on my cancer articles and, or course, putting cute pictures of my kitties in my last posting didn't hurt...LOL

YEAH FOR YOU on being down 2.5 lbs. TOM is visiting so I am avoiding the scale for the next few days.

Here again all by my lonesome. I think everyone's on the fascination thread. I have to admit the Russian brides scandal is priceless...

I've had a good week so far. I didn't quite meet my total calorie goal, but I really want to be careful not to go too low anyway. I need to find that "sweet spot" so to speak.

Yesterday:
22 ECC
70 Protein
1188 Calories

No additional weight loss, but showing a daily loss isn't sane....when I did that last year I suffered the consequences. Weekly losses of a couple of pounds is what I'm aiming for now.

I had some veg/beef soup and a slice of turkey and slice of cheese before my workout, after workout I have Greek yogurt and Whey Protein powder. Good stuff.
