I prefer running outside, too.. but it is TOO HOT this week. High nineties.
I want to live to see the ninth week (or whatever week I am able to do 30 minutes). I think I would keel over if I tried to run in this heat. I just spent 4 hours today on the road. 2 hours to pick up some students at a Madrigal retreat, and 2 hours back. I rarely use air conditioning. but.. today, it was a necessity. I rolled down the windows when I started off.. and it was like having hot air blow on me. literally. Like sitting next to a heating vent. so.. for this week, I use the air conditioner in the car. and I pull the curtains for the day (helps to keep the house cool). <=== this is not me blushing, this is me having heat stroke

Hello everyone. We're all doing so well!
I was dreading W5D2 tonight. I had to run around at work, then do an errand before coming home. It's hot and humid as all get out here too. I cranked up the AC, got my water bottle and hopped on the treadmill. The first 4 minutes of the first 8 minutes were a little harder, but then I got in a groove. I felt like I could have gone longer. The second 8 minutes were tougher during the final 3 minutes, as my legs were tiring. I was going pretty slowly, but I made it! 20 minutes of straight running seems like a lot, but we'll see on Friday how it goes. I am signed up for the local 5K in my little borough, but I'm walking it. It's on the 18th and I am no where near ready to run (haven't even ever run outdoors since I have to run at night). Also it's got steep parts (I talked to someone at work who lives near me and runs and she says she doesn't do this particular race as it really bothers her knees). I'll have to look for a relatively flat 5K when I'm ready to try my first one running. Keep up the good work everyone! Jazzy |

I wish there was a 5k run sometime in october around here, but the odds are NOT in my favor. I'm still pondering the one at the end of september but I don't think it's a good idea, honestly. I'll be just at my last week and you have to complete it in under 35 minutes...I don't know if I'll be at that point. Plus that gives me chance to repeat weeks.
My butt is 277 lbs! I'm not runner thin! I'm doing my best but I don't want to press my luck. I'm really liking week 2 though and looking forward to week 3. Week 2 feels too easy.

I think what we all have in our favor is that running is a popular enough sport that you can usually find some race or even a local running club if you get to the point where you want to join a group of runners. I was surprised that there is a very active local chapter near me. I checked into it when looking for a summer sport for my son when he was younger. Not only did they have a local chapter, but they had a youth program, and instructors, tracks with time allocated only for those classes, trail runs.. I never realized there was this much available. here is a link to CoolRunnings local running clubs (by state) Cool Running :: Running Clubs |

Day 3 week 1 DONE!! I'm not feeling 100% today so I had to talk myself into my weight training. Then I had to talk myself into doing the TM add the fact that the a/c at the gym was being replaced made it all the harder. At first I told myself I'd just walk today because it was so hot but then decided to do one jog then another then the last one lol.
Some days motivation is no problem other days ya gotta fake it till ya make it |

Good evening runners
!Today was the dreaded 20 minute run of Week 5, Day 3! It's hard after a hard day at work to come home and face that. I thought about waiting until tomorrow morning, but I have to work over the weekend, so I figured I'd just try it.I had to stop twice for about 30 seconds each time, just for my legs. My breathing is fine, but my legs get tired. Also, I was slow as molasses, but I did it! I paused the podcast when I took those 2 breaks, so that I would still have to run the full time. I guess I will go on to week 6, as the first 2 days are not straight running. Keep up the good work everyone! Jazzy |

well, I decided to take an extra day in between. woke up this morning with a pain in my shoulder that hurts when it is in a certain position. I think I slept funny and have a "crink". I don't know what I did..
but I think I will be fine after a good night's sleep. tomorrow is another day.. and I hope to start week 2. Last edited by aloise : 08-10-2007 at 06:49 PM. |
