Well Ladies I feel a little better this morning thank goodness! I don't have too much energy and of course I wanted to do a few extra things around here with my girlfriend comming to visit. She dosen't care but I do. Oh well, I am not gonna worry. We have known each other about 15 years now so she has seen the best and the worst of me! Ha Ha
Corrisann, I am glad you do what you like for a living. It takes special people to do what you do. I have several friends in health care, nurses and aids and home health and they feel it is rewarding at the end of the day too. If you are going to work, it should be something you enjoy doing!! I have met several couples from MI here in Texas that have retired from the auto industry and settled down here. They seem to be doing well. I hope your husband is able to hold on too. Missing our friend Polly also. I hope we haven't lost her............ Teresa how are you doing this week staying at home to eat? Well, if you don't hear too much from me in the next couple of days you'll know why. I am having too much fun!!!!! I just need to keep eating properly and not consume too much alcohol. But with this way of life we are always going to have some excuse/ reason to mess up and hopefully I won't mess up and stay on track. My friend is very supportive so I think she won't temp me with food and if she does it will be the kind with butter and cream and I am ok with that! LOL I wish the weather was better. we are still raining (1/2 the Ark is built!) and it dosen't look to let up for another week!!!! Yikes! My yard is saturated at this point and when it starts it just puddles everywhere. At least I am on high ground and am not flooding like some other folks nearby. Today I am going to eat lite and hopefully Deb and I will find something interesting in the seafood category to cook tonight!! till later, Kathleen |

Thursday
Glad you are feeling better, Kathleen! And glad you are going to have fun for a few days with a good friend. Sounds like she will help you stay on track.
Corrisann, glad you were able to get back on track. My weight finally did go down a lb. 2 days after the fat fast; now I just have to keep it off, and hopefully lose a little more. I don't know why prednisone makes it hard to lose weight. It is a steroid and does weird things to your body like makes you have a fat face, and accumulate fat on your upper back and belly. Some kind of effect on the adrenal glands. Your work sounds really interesting and rewarding. I'd love to have a job helping others, but I can't be on my feet long enough. What's up for you the next couple of days--what are you eating? POLLY--we sure miss you! B - egg yolk, spinach, sausage L - salad, chicken breast, roast beef D - asparagus, lamb chops S - almonds, cr ch |

Fri
A quick hello before I head out the door--will be a 2 client day so I won't be home until 7:30. Hate days like this but at least the van is fixed, even if it was to the tune of $1300....
Kathleen enjoy your visit with your friend!! Events like this just make ones soul sing!!! You should be fired up & in good spirits for the next leg of this journey when she departs. And good friends only support us so no excuses...LOL!! That's great on the lb back off Teresa. That too is the kind of thing that enjcourages one to keep rolling along. I'm sure it helped to not eat out this week too. B=coffee with cream & mexican chicken L=out with client after dr's visit so probably a salad w/meat on it D=packed in my cooler to eat on road between clients tuna salad w/celery sticks & cream cheese S=1oz roasted cashews I've found it does help me if I actually log what I'm going to eat in the a.m. Then in my mind I'm set & just can grab & go accordingly. I'll try & check in tonight before bed if dh is not on computer playing games with our son, ha!! corrisann |

Well Ladies sounds like everyone is doing well. Teresa I know you have to be excited to have lost that lb!! It is a shame you have to eat like a bird to get there. My friend Deb is also taking prednisone ( seems like that is a popular drug these days) and having the same problems. She said the med is great for what it is prescribed for but the side effects suck!
Corrisann it is great you are planning ahead. That has got to make things much easier for you! I know even staying at home if I plan ahead I do better, and I could see if I was working to have a plan in place would help with the impulse eating. Like getting up and eating leftover spagetti just so you could get something in you! You know what I mean......I am glad you are back on the bus.......However I think we lost our driver. I hope nothing terrible has happened to Polly or her family. I will think only positive thoughts like she's at the beach and her husband is waiting on her like a queen and feeding her strawberries and cream and he's catching fresh fish and slattering on the suntan lotion................oh maybe that's my dream. LOL. Seriously I hope all is well with her. I did well yesterday. We had a few cocktails in the evening but food wise I did good. I had hot wings for breakfast, mexican food at lunch(chicken turcsco and salad) and smothered 2" thick pork chops with mushrooms and zuchini. Deb had been at her aunts house and had seafood the last 2 days and she was ready for meat! The recipe was great for low carb.....I will post later. Today we are headed to the beach at Port Aransas to checkout all the shops and stuff. I am determined to stay on track. I will let you know how it goes!! Kathleen |

Friday
Greetings,
Sounds like you all are having a great day. Corrisann, excellent that you packed your food to take on the road! That's committment, and I'm sure it'll pay off for you. I was so glad to have just dropped a lb. that it made any perceived suffering worth it! My measurements are going down even if my weight isn't--I recall that's one of the benefits of Atkins, and I put on a pretty purple sweatsuit today I haven't been able to wear for a very long time. MH said I looked Hot! HA! Kathleen, you and your friend are sure eating well! Aren't you glad you're on Atkins and you can have scrumptious food! What a fun day you have planned; I'm loving to hear about it, especially since I am going nowhere. Love the idea of getting fed strawberries & cream by dh at the beach--my goal, too--thanks for that one! We're going out tonight, but I determined to stay on plan; not one bite of dessert even if it's offered! Going to a BBQ tomorrow, but will be very careful; don't want to undo what I worked so hard for! Catch y'all later! |

I'm back from self imposed "vacation" !!!
Good Morning Ladies,
I have had such great fun over the weekend I did not want it to end!! I felt like I was on vacation! My friend and I went to the beach and got some wonderful shells and pretty driftwood. Deb is redoing her livingroom "coastal breeze" is what she calls it. So we had to hit all the "junk" stores and little what not and resale shops in 3 towns!! She picked up some coral and couch material and beachy things for accents. I forgot how much fun I used to have doing this with her when she lived here. We just had a ball. We visited old friends, we ate well (bacon wrapped shrimp and fresh veggies, chicken fetticinne w/dreamfields pasta). We decorated my place with our finds from the junk store ( beautiful metal work panels for above my bed and a marble and carved wood plant stand for my diningroom) and did all that while catching up on the kids and friends. I was so sad to see her go................... I almost forgot I got so carried away with my weekend that today is Monday weigh in!! I did so good!! All time high (2007)- 273 Start date June 18, '07 - 273 Last Monday - 264 Today - 258 Goal - 175 to start Height - 5'7 Age - 50 6 lbs!! I could not believe my eyes!! 2 lbs of that was a regain from last Monday, but still!! I am just so proud of myself! It just makes me want to stick with it that much more!! I hope everyone is doing well and I look forward to hearing from you. Make it a great day and a new week. Let's all try one new food this week! Any suggestions?? Kathleen |

Monday a.m.
Wow, Kathleen--6 lbs! That is beyond great--it's fabulous! Congratulations!!!
I wish I could have done half as well, only 1/2 lb. this week, but it's better than gaining or staying the same! I like your idea of trying one new food this week; got any ideas? I think the only way I can lose weight is to do the semi-fat fast periodically, or go back to strict induction. But so be it; no other way of eating does it for me at all, except starvation! I was reading some of people's stories last night about their stalls, and many people go for weeks or even months without losing, then suddenly drop several lbs. almost overnight. Anyway, my feet seem to be a little better. Yesterday dh and I went for a walk up in the forest behind the UC campus. I was so happy because I haven't been able to walk up there for a long time. It was so beautiful, with all the redwoods and pines and chapparel. We had to go slow, but I did it! Kathleen, sounds like you had such a great time with your friend. Isn't it fun to get things for your house! I'd like to get some kind of iron work for my living room wall above a new bamboo chest I got this spring. We did some redecorating, got new carpeting and furniture. But the walls are pretty bare! It would be so fun to go hunting for things, but alas, my feet won't bear it right now. Congrats for staying on your food plan while having company--that's a big accomplishment! Corrisann, hope you had a good week, too, and that your computer gets right--they can be such a frustration! All time high - 175 (1998) Start date - 6-6-07 (165) Last Mon. - 158.5 Today - 158 Goal - 125 Height - 5'2" Age - 58 B - egg yolk, lox, cr ch, spinach, tea w/cr L - shrimp enchiladas, salad D - salmon, crookneck squash, chard S - almonds, cr ch |

Terrific Tuesday
Good Morning,
I am so glad your perserverence is paying off Teresa. I know it is especially hard for you. I am so happy the scale went down for you this week!! YooHoo!! I was envious of your walk on Sunday. We walked around with my girlfriend but mostly sweated (TX heat). Maybe thats how I dropped that weight! It really does sound like you live in a beautiful area. To have the UC campus right there!! How nice is that!! ![]() Corrisann we are keeping our fingers crossed your computer will be fixed soon so you can jump back in. It looks like Polly is on a sabatical and hopefully she will fill us in when she returns. ![]() I really don't know what I want to eat today. Do you guys ever have those days. I hate then, I do much better when I have a plan. I think I will look for some recipes (simple ones) To see if there is something that catches my eye. I do have a london broil in the freezer and that would be good to have around since my dh is comming in tomorrow night. I am sure he will want his pasta and potatos! But it really does not bother me like it did in the begginning. I think Adkins woe really does make those starch cravings go away. Not that I don't miss the taste of those things but the cravings are not there. I do know the revolution rolls are really helping me. To be able to make a sandwich is wonderful. With dh gone it is so easy to just have a burger or toast with your egg! I just love them!! The wraps and pita bread and tortillas are higher in carbs and I am keeping them in the fridge. Hope they last............. Wonder if they can be frozen I think Polly said she froze her wraps and I might try that. I hate to see that money go to waste but I am more interested in losing the weight. They should make a multi pack then you could have 1 or 2 of each and be able to use them in a reasonable amount of time! ![]() Well I have rambelled on long enough. I hope everyone has a pleasent day without temptation!! ![]() Todays Menu B- Bacon, eggs and "toast" coffee w/cream L- Stuffed peppers-leftovers Salad w/dressing D-probably London Broil Salad w/ dressing I think the new food I am going to try this week is Hearts of Palm or Artichoke hearts. Any hints on what to do with them. They have them in a jar at the grocery store and I think they go in a salad. So please let me know. till later, Kathleen |

Tuesday
Hi, Kathleen--
Boy, those revolution rolls really are working out great for you aren't they! I'd like to try them but I'm pretty sure anything with splenda in will stall me because I used to drink cocoa with it and I never lost on the days I had it. I know what you mean about not knowing what to eat, or feeling excited about anything! London broil sounds really good, though; it's such a flavorful meat. We had chile rellenos out last night, with beef in them. I scraped off the breading. They were sooo delicious with the combo of a little ground beef in with the cheese and a spicy tomato sauce. So tonight we're having the salmon we were going to have last night. On Tuesdays I go to the gym and always have salad bar lunch. This salad bar always has artichoke hearts which go good in the salad. I also love hearts of palm in a salad; I think they taste good with a vinegar dressing. I bet you're looking forward to your dh returning home--hope you two have a nice dinner! T. B - egg yolk, spinach, lox, cr ch L - salad bar w/turkey and cheese, 1/2 whipped cream mousse D - salmon, mayo, romano beans, crookneck squash S - almonds, string cheese |

I'm back
Well dh is still working out the virus but son got me set up on his laptop. Had to set up a new password etc but he walked his mom thru it all with patience.
Got my nerve up & got on the scale this morning & I am at 242. Which with the way things have been going & I have been eating it's a miracle that I'm at that number. DS was saying in passing that he's 218 & has cut back as he'd like to be closer to 200. He's 6'6" & 25 so he is no where's near over weight. When he gets on campus & is riding his bike all the time again he will drop those extra lbs. But the reason I am rattling on about this is because of his weight.....he would be so shocked if he knew what I weigh!!! No one but you gal's know my numbers. I know women always claim they are large boned but I really am & the bad thing about that is I carry my weight very well. Folks look at me & think I am overweight but have no idea how much. Wasn't until I hit around 215 that I really started to look heavier. So I'm hoping this little conversation with ds will help me continue in my journey of getting a gripe....hahaha!!! Kathleen you did wonderful!!!!! I'm sure all that walking & sweating really did bring it about!! And it was so much more fun than going to the gym!!! Keep up the good work! And Teresa that half lb less is sure better than me this week. So enjoy that half lb. I made us chile rellenos as an egg dish one nite this week & it was good. Reheated for my lunch real well too. See we can be part of the world & still be where we should be with our eating!! Well I miss Polly. I hope she's just really busy stocking all her new books etc not that she's had something happen that is keeping her from chatting with us. I enjoyed how she shared the pics of her store & flowers with us! I don't know how to imput pic's etc but I sure like seeing everyone else's!! I don't know about the palm hearts, had them in a salad once & didn't care for them. How many carbs are they?? My cooking is "whatever" at this point. We are cutting costs way back for the next few weeks while dealing with the van repair/schooling costs/tooth repair/summer taxes....so dh ask me to try & buy as little as possible. My cupboards are full of food but alot of it is stuff I can fix for them but not me. Rice, mac n cheese etc. So it's going to be a challenge that's for sure. And you are so right Kathleen about the cravings for starches going away when we stay constantly away from them. Remember before that I truly did not want them. I always missed fruit though & will eat more of it when I loose the weight this time. Even though diabetics are limited to 3 a day so I maybe can never do more than that. I forgot how to calculate the net carbs for the sugar free chocolates Teresa. The pkg of Russell Stovers that I use to get gave the count on the bag. But now that it's not so popular anymore the count is gone off the bag....was thinking that maybe I do need a treat of some kind to keep me going. The carb smart bars were real good. Course over the next few weeks I won't be getting any. I have sugar free jello but without the Rhedi Whip on top it's hospital food not a treat......LOL!! Well gal's I guess I best end this before it becomes a whole paper. I really appeciate your support!!! Here's to a great Wed! corrisann |

Tuesday night
Glad to have you back with us, Corrisann, and thank goodness for our younger generation to help us with these computers, huh! My daughter had to show me how to get the pictures onto it--no one in my age group had a clue!
Well, you're only up a few lbs. and it's probably mostly water. You're still down from where you started! We just have to ride over the bumps and stay on the bus, right? I do wish we still had Polly in the driver's seat--maybe she'll pop back in one of these days. Do you have any cans of tuna or green beans in your cupboards? Those are a couple of things I can think of that can work. It's weird, but I actually prefer canned green beans to fresh, although they are high in sodium. Do you grow any vegetables, like zucchini? They're great on the diet. I do love chile rellenos, and almost all Mexican food. I just tell them not to bring chips, and I have them substitute salad for the rice and beans, and I don't eat the tortillas. Hang in there, and just regard the starchy stuff as poison! T. |

I am so glad you made it back Corrisann!! Don't worry about what was last week and just pick up and go forward this week!! The important thing is as Teresa said you are back on the bus and you are still down from when you started. Remember we are human and if we didn't have a problem with food we would not be here to begin with. So with that, no looking back!! Think positive and maybe a mini goal is needed to get you up and running again. Something like 5 lbs dropped and your husband massages your feet for 15 minutes!! (If you are lucky!!) You get the picture..............
As for the budget thing there is always chicken, tuna, turkey and at Walmart ham is usually a pretty good price. I get them whole and take to the butcher and have them cut it into ham steaks (for free) and so much cheaper!! . Chicken can be made 1000 ways! Try making the revolution rolls. Then you can have hot dogs with kraut, hamburgers, chicken salad, broiled chicken, chicken parmesan, there’s lots of stuff. Tuna salad, tuna melts, smoked turkey legs are always pretty reasonable here. Buy some Dreamfields pasta and you could make salads, mac and cheese etc. for the whole family. I know it is a dollar more but for a lb it is worth it because you can stretch it, for you and your hubby you could get two or three different meals out of it........and 1 cup is only 5 carbs. Believe it or not that 1 cup is pretty filling especially if you are having some meat and / or vegetable with it. Teresa you said the splenda makes you stall but those rolls only have 1 packet for the whole batch!! I just really love them, can't say enough!! Well my dh just called and he is on the way in (they have a 10 hour drive from Louisiana) So I better get busy. I always try to have everything nice for when he comes home and since I still don't feel that well I haven't really done much since my friend left. I didn't make the London Broil yesterday so I will grill today. I had Sausage instead. I just threw it in the oven and waited 30 min. till done. So easy!! Today's Menu B- finish stuffed peppers coffee w/cream L-hamburger on Rev. Roll D-London Broil w/mushrooms and salad S-cream cheese roll ups I find it quite humerous we all had some type of stuffed peppers!! We must have the same type of taste buds that want that extra punch!! I checked the carb counts on the artichokes (1 carb per heart) Hearts of palm (0.7 carbs per heart) so not bad. I think I will try the artichoke first. I had steamed squash last week and it was delish. Usually I have had it with other things mixed or fried. The steamed was quite simple and very easy to make. I like it tender crisp...... Till later, Kathleen |

Wednesday night
Hi, Gals--
I'm checking in late tonight. Had a busy but great day. I had lunch with a couple of friends at my favorite Mexican restaurant, and only had a shrimp salad with sour cream. I used to think that wasn't enough food for me, but if you're really hungry, boy does it taste good! Especially with jalapeno dressing added to the sour cream. I always love it when I can eat something like sour cream or mayo that others are looking enviously at! Then I just had a little lc chocolate and tea with cream and I was set for dinner. I walked for 20 minutes down a lovely trail in the woods, which made me feel really great, even though it made my feet sore; I'm starting to get out and go for a few more walks which I've really been missing. We went out for dinner and all I had was a chicken leg and thigh and a small caesar salad. So I hope my weight is down tomorrow. I had told dh that I couldn't go out for dinner because it keeps me from losing; but he seemed so disappointed that I relented and told him I had to be very careful. And I drank a lot of water, so we'll see... And after dinner I got on the bike and rode it for 20 minutes. I hope I can keep up this amount of exercise! Kathleen I am going to have to try those rolls; you've talked me into it! What are cream cheese roll-ups? That sounds like something I'd like. Hope you had a nice dinner with your dh! Corrisann, hope you had a good day too! See you tomorrow. T. |

Good morning gal's!!
Off to work but wanted to say hi! Enjoy your hubby being home Kathleen! Keep up the exercise Teresa! And both your meals sound great--you did yourself proud! The last couple days I've eaten odd but pretty much on track. It's eating out of the cupboards the next couple weeks as dh requested I not do a grocery shopping. Actually it's good to clean out your cupboards this way every once in awhile LOL!! And yes I did have cans of tuna & green beans Teresa. The WalMart by me does not have the grocery store. Lord knows we have every other store on the planet corrisann |

Good morning Ladies,
I hope everyone is doing well today. Sounds like you had a great day with your friends Teresa. And you need to pat yourself on the back for doing well at dinner also!! Just think we are half way through the week!!! I am so glad you are able to get your walks in, that trail sounds so peaceful. I should start walking again. I live so close to the water , that it is really pleasent when I do get out. It is just so hot here. Even at 8 am, it is 85 and the humidity is about 98% right now. I just cannot take the heat like I used too. Corrisann do you exercise at all? I might get my dh to take me over to the base and use the gym while he is in. I would feel better going with someone the first time or two untill I got familiar with it. The base is only a mile from the house so I really have no excuse except that I am plain lazy! Cream cheese roll ups are any type of sandwich meat with cream cheese spread on (about 1/2 -1 Tbls) then rolled up. My favorite is ham and then I also add jalepeno slices and then roll up. Sometimes I put a green onion in there too. They are filling and take the edge off when you are hungry for something. If you make the rolls remember to let them sit in the fridge a few hours before you use them. They are much better after that for some reason. Corrisann did you get your computer problems solved? To think machines would have such controll in our lives!! Just think if it weren't for computers we would not have each other for support! Todays Menu B-Bacon and eggs and "Toast" coffee w/ cream L-london broil and salad D-Italian sausage and peppers with Dreamfields pasta S-cream cheese roll ups, jello if needed Have a great no starch day!! Kathleen |

Want a treat to be doing a "diet" that allows you to eat them everyday!! Keep well in the fridg Teresa & so portable for work etc! They do need to set in the fridg for a few hours first like Kathleen said. Will most

Hi ladies,
I will be running with my dh today. We are doing a friend a favor and have to pick up truck parts in Corpus Christi. We will most likely go out for a treat at lunch!! I don't know what yet but I know I can stay on plan almost anywhere. On th e rolls and the roll ups.....the revolution rolls have to sit in the fridge for sure. The roll ups can be eaten right away but do taste better as Corrisann said if they too are made ahead and sit for a while. But if you need something right away they are good and on plan. It is wonderful that we can eat so many good things!! I am hoping your pantry is stocked with some good food for your woe Corrisann. I know we always have chicken, tuna and veggies and crab in mine but I don't see too much else that I could fall back on. Hang in there and soon you will be at the store again!! Todays menu B-Coffee w/cream london broil, boiled eggs L-? D-Depends on lunch!! I have some chicken and ham in the freezer. I didn't make the sausage and peppers last night so that is an option. We had the london broil instead. It was a big one for the two of us, and my dh said don't bother cooking when we can eat that!! Does anybody have plans for the weekend?? We thought about going crabbing. My mouth is drooling for crab and garlic butter! I told my dh I would do a "boil" if we went. It is crab or shrimp or crawfish and sausage, corn on the cob, onions, lemon and potatos boiled with spicy seasoning. Very, very tasty! I could add mushrooms for me and have the meat. Hopefully things will work out! Maybe I could add the artichokes and try that! Well whatever you do, I hope you enjoy it! Kathleen |

Friday
Hi, gals--
I'm running this a.m. to dreamgroup. had a busy day yesterday, had to go to the doctor, then we had friends from S. Cal visiting. Took them out to dinner and lo and behold I didn't gain weight. Had calamari saute and pork chop w/ green beans. had a couple bites of peaches and choc torte w/ wh. cr, and I thought that would make me go up, but it had a lot of ground nuts in it and not really any flour. So I guess quantity is the thing. I only ate half my pork chop, brought the rest home for snack today. Dh is roasting a chicken for tonight, and I'm going out w/girlfriends for lunch after dreamgoup. Probably will have a caesar salad. Hope you guys have a great day--Kathleen, fresh crab w/garlic butter sounds absolutely divine! Catch Y'all later! T. |

Sat's fly by
Well Sat has flown by & so there's half our weekend gone!! We were upnorth at a Mennonite Disaster Relief Auction. Was an interesting experience & the weather cooperated by being hot but not scorching. We aren't in the place to buy anything right now but watching the auction was fun & there were some beautiful quilts sold!!
We ate the lunch & breakfast that was served as our donation, so my eating was not the best. Teresa your Thurs & Fri meals sounded really good & like you are really getting the hang of eating the right way as part of your normal life. That is the true road to success!! I have some cans of crab meat in the cupboard, any good ideas girls? Made one up with mayo & some chopped celery & it was pretty bland. Saw one crab spread that would work if I had cream cheese. Any other ideas?? I have those roll ups on the brain now & can't make 'em just yet....lol Wow that boil sounds great Kathleen!!! Hope you did get to go crabbing....course I don't know what that means....ha!! I'm pretty sure you don't use a line & pole?? Tomorrow we should be home having a calm day where I just catch up on some household chores etc. So I think I will set up the weeks menu's to get me back on track. I do much better when I can glance at my list & say oh yeah today is eggs/tuna salad/roast chicken and raw almonds for my snack or whatever that day is. The tasty foods with this woe always satisfy so the problem comes with picking thru the cupboards at the last minute. I use to never do this but over the last couple years have just gotten tired of all the work that comes with the planning/preparing/cooking of all our food. Use to love to do it but work interfers with having the time to make it fun. Maybe come cooler weather I will be back into all the new recipes Kathleen. Like those rolls. I will have to have something to satisfy my love of bread! Enough blabbing for now it's off to bed corrisann |

Hi Ladies, Saturday was a wash around here. My dh and I did not do much. I made a pot of gumbo with chicken, sausage amd shrimp. I just use celery, bell pepper and onion in mine. It came out really good. I use soy flour for the roux and to me there is no difference in the taste at all except it makes it low carb. I figure it has about 60 carbs for the whole batch and that's got to be around 10 big bowls! Very good for our woe. Corrisann I laughed at your last post and the crabbing statement!! We have nets that are made for crabbing and we put chicken necks in them and put them in the water to lure the crab. Sometimes you can actually just throw a string out there with the chicken neck and pull them in like that, but I find it easier to do it with a net. Today we are going so I will let you know how it goes!! Your auction sounded like a lot of fun. Do they have many up the in that part of the country? We sometimes see one in the paper once in a while but not that often. My weight |
