Where in Florida are you from Polly? No matter what candy I ate I would always want more than one. I thought sugar alcohols were ok to consume but I guess not. I seem to be stuck on 168lbs, can't get past it. I guess I had better get out there and do some walking or something. I think I am sitting around too much. I am getting spoiled from being on vacation from work ( a school ). I like the Breyers Carb Ice Cream. I just noticed my husband finished the last of it. Darn it. Now I have to pick a new snack for tonight. The doctor told him to go on a carb diet, he has sugar too. At least it makes meal planning alittle bit easier now.
We just had a good thunder storm with hail and all. I think it made it hotter out. At least your not gaining Polly even though you are stuck on acouple digits that's what I figure with me.
Happy Weekend
Donna

Friday nite

Hi, Everybody--
Late post today, busy this morning. Went to dreamgroup today; it's always intense and tires me out, but it's fun.

My weight was up a lb. this a.m. because we went to dinner last night and the sauce on the duck breast was made from carmelized onions, tomatoes, and roast figs. I gave the figs to mh, but the sauce was sweet. I think sauces have been slowing my progress lately. That's the way it goes. Problem is, it always seems to take more than a day to get the weight off that came on in one day. I don't understand that. Patience! Persistence!

Welcome, Donna--where are you from? I like a lc chocolate bar that contains sugar alcohols, and it doesn't seem to be a problem for me, but I only eat 1/4 of a bar at a time, and no more that 1/2 bar per day.

Thanks, Polly, for the suggestion on the movie--it sounds charming. I'm going to put it on our queue. I think I'm stuck this week, too, but it's a major achievement to be able to stick to a way of eating that doesn't cause binging and gaining, right? Even though I'm not losing right now, I feel better, less bloated, more energetic. The scale will go down eventually. T.

good to be home

Well Ladies, seems like y'all have been multiplying like rabbits while I was gone. Welcome Donna! Good to hear from you Gramma. I was so glad to get home last night. The weather was horrible. We were actually just outside of Galveston and the worst storms were right there with us. Got to see the remnants of a small tornado the first night and on the way to the service yesterday there was another one to be on the watch for. Thank God we were not affected by that one! The service was very nice. Thank you for your kind words.

I did pretty well for the 2 day trip. Pretty much stuck to meat, seafood and veggies. Was not able to drink as much water but did get some, the really only bad thing was we went to a Mexican restaurant (how can you stay away in this part of the country) and I had some-6 or 8 chips with hot sauce. They put them on the table and you could see they were still hot!! I could not resist, BUT I did not eat the whole basket like I would have before! My weight this morning is steady at 264 so I did not gain and I am going protein this weekend! I was very proud of myself with all the temptation how well I adapted. Sliced tomato instead of hash browns at breakfast. No pancakes! I guess I am finally ready to do this for me..............When you go out to eat and let the server know you are trying to low carb, they can be your best friend! Well I'll post my menu later. I just had to write some, it's like therapy for me!

Saturday

Good Saturday, Everyone--
It's a bit of a down day here; the fog is in, and we're a little tired. Going to the gym though. Weight still not back down from this week's little indiscretions. If not down by Mon., will go to induction for a few days.

Kathleen, glad you're back with us and you deserve many congrats on keeping it together while traveling and eating out. Chips are really hard to resist, esp. when warm! I love Mexican food, and I just tell them not to bring me any. I've also had very good cooperation from restaurant staff re low-carbing. Everybody has to be careful these days. Eating out so much last week is probably what kept me from losing anything, even when I tried to be careful; there's still hidden carbs in a lot of sauces.

Even if weight loss is slow, we're all doing great to be changing our eating lifestyle--in the long run it will pay off and bring us better health, right? Hope everyone's having a nice weekend. T.

B - sausage, egg yolk, spinach, tea w/cr
L - salad, cold cuts, cheese
D - leftover roast chicken, summer squash
S - chicken, almonds, cr ch

Good morning Ladies!!
Been busy the last few days w/helping ds cleaning & getting ready to move out of his place. He was hoping to be able to stay there till he moves onto campus the first of Sept but it didn't work out, & so now we will be moving him twice...... really feel the wgt at times like this! Going from work to his place to work some more just leaves me plumb tuckered out!! Plus it's been really hot here & the heat kills me.
My eating has been good but I have been way over eating. And calories still count, I can't eat 5000 calories a day & think the scale is gonna move....LOL!!! So I'm trying to be glad that at least I'm eating the right foods. Was always a stress eater so it's a challange to not fall into my chair at the end of the nite with a big bowl of ice cream or some such snack. I know the scale is not going to have budged come Mon...probably will be up a lb. Am trying to prepare myself mentally.....
Always interesting to read what you all are eating & how you have coped at parties & eating out etc. And Kathleen I too find find the writing here like a therapy---that's probably why my post are longer than everyone else's...LOL!!
Welcome Donna & Jazz! It's always nice to have another voice to hear & mind to pick!! Donna there is a gal named Sue who's been on this site for years (that lost & has kept off her wgt) with incredible recipes. She shows pic's & gives all these details on how she tweaked this & that till the foods were yummy. It's grand that she shares all this with us. Her recipes are better than alot of the lc books I've bought. I keep her site in my favorites list so I can click on it at any time. I will get the site address for you. I love to cook & try new recipes so this is a real plus for me. Or at least I like to when it's not hot....in the summer it's always simple basics.
That movie Spring Summer Fall Winter Spring sounds very interesting Polly--am most certainly going to watch it. I
read The Stand many years ago & thought the book was much better than the movie Jazz. So many of those books are good then the movies get low budgets & are just cheesey when they are finished.
Well guess I best get a move on. Suppose to be 96 today...YUCK!!!! But at least we don't have to go over to our sons place. Course we do have to unload his stuff from the van & car into the garage & house.....
have a great Sunday everyone!
corrisann

oh Polly I'd give up the garden in a flash to be at my camper sitting in the screen house!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Ladies,
I have been busy too this weekend. I had a baby shower yesterday, then went to the base commissary to to load up on meat, cheese and cold cuts. It's so much cheaper there, It's about 40 miles but the savings are worth it. My husband leaves tomorrow morning, so this morning we were out running again. We are starting a new business on the side so we had some things to pick up. We decided to do a welding business. We have been putting it together over this last month and are finally ready to go! There are so many boats, trailers, RV's and tractors down here that we felt it was the right thing to start. We are a mobile service so we can go to the job which is very convienent for a lot of people. Anyway we will see how it goes!

Yesterday was a little haphazard with the eating. I had leftover chicken enchiladas (egg crepes not tortillas) for a late breakfast, then at the shower I had veggies and strawberries and breadless sandwiches. So I was able to stay on track. No cake! No dinner last night. Went to the lodge (thank God he's going off shore!) last night and had a few drinks. We were so hungry this morning I cooked the T-bones I had taken out yesterday with eggs for breakfast! Now that's what I'm talking about!! Threw them on the gas grill with a portabella mushroom and in an instant we had a wonderful meal. I think I may be consuming too many calories too Chick, because my weight is not dropping either. But I have noticed my stomach is a bit smaller and my bra fits much better. I am not yanking it off first thing in the door! LOL !! I am hopping to cut back a little on my portions to see if that helps. Going into this week I am going to start eating a little fruit to change things up a bit. I also got some flounder and I thought about doing a pecan crust thing with it. Any ideas on that?

Todays Menu
T-bones, eggs and portabella mushroom
L-Genoa salami and swiss cheese
D- Dreamfields pasta (5) carbs and meat sauce, salad
S-sugar free jello (2) carbs(not bad if they are good, somthing new I saw and I'm going to try and pork rinds if needed

By the way, this is the first day since last Monday it has not rained yet !!!!!

till later, Kathleen

Sunday evening

good evening to all--
Well, Corrisann, I wish I could send you some of our too cool fog, and trade ya for a little sun! They've got heat over the hill, but right here by the beach we're into the cold gray mornings, and it lasted most of the day yesterday and today.

Moving is always stressful; you have my sympathy. Which college is your son going to? It's exciting to see them off on their life adventure!

I've been overeating too, I think, even tho I've been eating on the program. The cooler weather makes me hungrier, and I didn't sleep well--that always makes me hungry the next day. At least we're eating the right foods. I think once we can transition to only low carb foods, and get that ingrained, then it may be easier to cut the calories. It definitely has to be a lifestyle change!

Kathleen, here's wishing the end of the rain to you! It sounds like you're going to have your work cut out for you with your new business; that seems like a good service to be offering where you are--best of luck!

Check in with you all tomorrow a.m. for weigh-in. Have a good nite. T.

Well I wrapped up my evening by having a peanut butter (Jiff w/Splenda) & jellie sandwich....sad thing is I didn't really get to enjoy the taste of it cause I wolfed it down thinking I shouldn't be having this.....geez if you're gonna cheat you should at least eat it slow & enjoy it....LOL!!!

Thinking I won't wgt tomorrow morning--if I'm up it will just throw me into a tizzie--I can accept that I am most likely up & get on with it this next week but if I see actually numbers it might do me in--I am so sick of food & just wish I would get a grip!!!! I don't screw around with everything else in my life, so why I can't get a grip on the food is soooooo frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Corrisann,
Don't give up on yourself. You are not alone. We all have a problem with food. Sometimes I think we just were not blessed witha great metabolisms(?)
But we have to think of the other things in our life that are good! And forgive ourselves for our downfalls. We are here to help you just as you are here to help us . We have to remember we are human!! We can do this even if it does not happen right away we must stick with it. Just like Teresa said once we get the foods down the rest will follow!
Wait till Wed. to weigh in and maybe you will feel better...................

Good morning ladies...was a busy weekend so I didn't get to post. I've been irritable and grumpy lately, seems like just one thing after another happening, plus the heat. So I get home Saturday and nothing is thawed out to cook and I didn't pick anything up. We ended up calling in to the little resturant down the road and got burgers and onion rings. I was feeling soooo guilty when my husband went to get them...BUT...it turned out ok. As I ate the burger, I'd peel the bun away before I took a bite. I had the bun to hold on to it with, but I didn't eat any. Ate a whole onion ring or two, but mostly I just pulled the onion out of the breading and ate that. When I got finished there was a huge pile of carbs(bun and breading) left on my plate. Also, I was satisfied because I got some comfort food...sans carb.

Yesterday we went to the beach and did some cleaning. Grilled a steak and made a salad but didn't eat much because of the heat. Probably drank a gallon of water plus kool aid. All in all a good day.

Teresa...send me some of that cool fog!

Polly

Monday a.m.

Good Monday morning, dear friends--

Well. I'm afraid my weight is not going down easily, either. But not to get upset. Corrisann, Kathleen is right; don't get down on yourself. The worst thing we all know from our experience is to get depressed and frustrated then go on a big binge. So try to relax, breathe, stay neutral and continue your lifestyle change. We don't have to get it 100% of the time, every single day. It's the greater movement toward better health that counts. So, onward we go!

All time high - 175 (1998)
Start date - 6/6/07
Last Mon. - 160
Today - 160
Goal - 125
Height - 5' 2"
Age - 58

I'm going to increase fat content this week, and cut down on quantity to see if I can get myself into more of a fat burning mode. I've got my ketostix, and I'd love to see what it's like to get into real ketosis.

Polly, congrats on your one lb. loss! Wish I could send you some of this cool fog, too! Teresa

Teresa....what's dreamgroup?

From everyone's menus, it looks like ya'll are eating like birds! Meat eating birds of course. We can't help but lose weight if we stick with it.

Last time I saw 199 was in 1997-1998 when I went from 250 to 140 on a low calorie/high exercise diet. I kept this weigh off about five years before it started coming back on...fast. I stopped exercising and began eating whatever I wanted....mostly high carb stuff. It was like one day I was slim...and a couple of days later, fat again. I woke up this past April when it started getting hard to climb the stairs and do physical stuff...never did get back up to my original weight of 250.

I think low carbing is something I can stick with for the rest of my life so that's why the slowness of it doesn't bother me...much ;-)

Yesterday's Menu-
B - coffee w/ cream, handful of special k protein cereal
L - half a burger on double fiber bread, pork skins, celery and pickles
S- tea w/ splenda
D - philly cheese steak w/ onions and peppers over a bed of spinach
S - carb smart ice cream bar

Polly as the bus driver!!! LOL!!!

Corrisann I read your post yesterday and just lost it. I too could picture what you were saying (Polly driving the bus) and laughed so hard! You must be a hoot!
Polly I don't eat like a bird....that is why I like LC, I get volume. When I eat meat it is about 8-10 oz steak, 4pc of lunch meat , 2 -3 pc of chicken. I am not skimping. Not like Teresa. 2 oz of chicken or shrimp would be an appetizer for me. Now I am watching the strawberries at 1/2 cup per portion. But then I have 1-2 cups of salad also. That's why I think I slowed down. A little too much volume LOL............But all in all I think when I make it this time I too will be able to maintain.

Today's Menu
B-London broil and eggs
coffee w/cream
L-Shrimp salad or hamburger w/salad
D-baked chicken and green beans w/mushrooms and bacon
S-strawberries w/ cream cheese

Anyone ever used crushed pecans to "flour" something with? I wanted something different so I got the pecans for a "crust". Yesterday I ordered some stuff from netrition. Almond flour and zanthum gum(the thickner), some LC spaghetti sauce and LC pita pockets. We are pretty rural where we are and don't get too many choices for the "bread" items. And their shipping is cheaper than if I had to drive to Corpus Christi to get it. So I am looking forward to trying some other things. Till later......

Tuesday

Hi, All--

I also love the image of Polly driving us all down the weight loss road! If only it were that easy! Maybe we should all try hypnotherapy--as Polly shouts the numbers down, we go into a deep trance and the weight just falls off.....

But Hey...my semi-fat fast worked yesterday and I dropped a lb. overnight! I was hungry last night though, and kind of had a stomach ache, but it was worth it. I ate about 1200 cals and 10 g. carbs. That is bird food, but remember I am short, small-boned, and metabolically challenged on prednisone. So I don't necessarily recommend it unless you're really stuck. Now I have to see if I can keep that lb. off while we go to dinner tonight w/friends. I'm going to eat a little more protein today and probably a few more vegetables. Happy day, everyone! Teresa

B - 2 egg yolks, sausage, spinach, tea w/cr
L - salad w/4 oz. meat
D - probably steak 4 oz., salad, few vegs
S - few pecans or bite of leftover steak

dreamgroup

Polly, dreamgroup is a group of women I've been in for about 7 years who meet to analyze our dreams for personal growth. We have a leader who has been doing dreamwork for over 30 years and has written books and had a call-in radio show. I studied w/her for a couple of years and learned to do dream analysis. It's symbolic and metaphoric, probably mainly based on Jungian principles, but updated w/ the latest research and techniques. It's lots and lots of fun and challenging! T.

Teresa, a friend of mine was taking prednisone and boy did she put on the weight. It is bad enough when we do it to ourselves but with medication, it just isn't fair! Congrats on the pound! What is a fat fast??

You know, I don't remember my dreams. Once in a while I will wake up and remember, but not very often. What does that say about me?

Today has been tough. I have been at home all day working on some stuff and I just wanted to eat, eat, eat. I didn't have the eggs at breakfast, but had the shrimp salad with london broil instead. For lunch I had the hamburger with swiss cheese(no bun) and I was able to stay on tract (so far). I made pizza on a low carb wrap in addition to my other meals and have scraped the strawberries till tomorrow. Hopefully it will pass. It is still early in the day!

fat fast

Kathleen--

The fat fast is Atkins' fastest way to lose weight. Do you have the book? It describes a study done where people ate almost nothing but fat, and lost weight faster than any other method. You eat a diet about 75 - 90% fat, and keep calories low, 1000-1200 (or it won't work, your body will just burn the dietary fat if you eat more calories than you need), and it puts you into fat-burning mode. Only recommended if you're really metabolically impaired, or hit a plateau. He says it can be dangerous for others, because they can lose weight too fast (Ha!). I think you can find info on this website about it.

Prednisone is a bummer; I have gained weight on it; that's why I am struggling now. It ramps up your appetite; but I have noticed that being on low carb definitely helps me keep it under control. So if you have a friend on it, tell them to go lc! I'm starting to wean off of it now, though, so hopefully will be off by Nov.

If you don't remember your dreams, you're like most people! No problem; it's just a helpful way to get to know yourself better, but there are all kinds of ways to do that; and besides, maybe there's stuff we'd rather not know! Ha-ha! Teresa

P.S. Sorry you've had a tough day. One thing about increasing fat and keeping carbs really low is that it makes you less hungry. You can move in that direction, increasing fat and using less protein, without having to go real low calorie. Also, when I feel really hungry, I drink more tea with cream in it; seems to be a substitute for a snack. Take care, Teresa

the driving the bus reference - that cracked me up by the way - reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer tells the story of "driving the bus." ;-) I just hope I don't drive us all off a cliff!

I like to talk about my dreams when I first wake up i the morning. If I don't do this, I don't remember them. My husband usually rolls his eyes but I do it anyway. Dreams are cool and it'd be interesting to study them.

I've got to scoot early this morning...I'm getting a facial and a haircut before work. This weekend I'm gonna take some pictures and post it beside the one in the purple shirt. Hopefully we can see a difference!

Can't wait to see the new you Polly! A facial sounds great! I like to get pedicures! There is this asian man in town that is so gentle but firm at the same time. I always feel like a million bucks after one of those.
