newbie is this right for me

I am planning on starting this monday. I need to loose about 40-50 lbs. I am tired of being overweight. How do I start and then how to keep it going. i like to go out to eat with friends especially Mexican. Husband has been mobilized with the U.S Arny since May 2006. We do get to see Him often and He has not had to go to Iraq yet. I have 3 kids and I home school any wisdom for me while I am in this particular season of my life.

First of all read the book cover to cover. No matter which atkins you are following this is an absolute must. Then the rest will all fall into place.

I agree with Ceceee8935, the best start is to read the book cover to cover. And remember - a little cheat will set you back days, believe me I know this.

You can still eat a a mexican restaurant. Order the carne asada, maybe with a fried egg, and a guacomole salad, and lots of pico!

I feel for you in your situation. My husband is currently in Iraq and has been there since last August. He will be home for good in November. I also have three kids so I know how stressful that can be.

What's funny is I am turning my kids on to some of these low carb recipes I am learning. My 2 year old and seven year old boys are addicted to oopsie rolls! Go figure!

Best of luck to you and if you ever need to talk, please send me a message!

I did notice that. I am 5'1 1/2. I would love to get down to 125- 120 with me being so short I just wish I knew if I could do it. So tired of starting things and not following through.. Thanks to all of you for being so nice.

My husband is active duty and we did our best to get around this deployment to Iraq as long as possible but it finally caught up with us. My husband deployed during Desert Storm and knew he did not want to go back over there. The Army got DH to volunteer for this position in Iraq by offering him a great job in Florida near family when he returns. I just always hope that this was worth the risk. I would have done anything to keep this from happening but it was kind of like they told him to volunteer and get this benefit or they would send him anyway Gotta love the Army life!

jenjenjen- I'm so jealous of your stats! I hope to be there soon!

hmschoolmom3- low carbing is good for everybody. It's naturally energizing and so much healthier than eating all that other crap and fake food. As far as eating Mexican (my fave as well!) there are tons of choices. The carne asada is always a safe choice. I order mine with lots of guac. I also love chile rellenos- peppers coated in fried eggs and stuffed with cheese. I also smother in guac Gotta love that guac! Also, any taco is fine- I just eat the filling only with a fork- I really don't miss the tortillas.

Good luck!
