With Mother's day upcoming....
Does anyone have a reading/poem for Mother's Day that they find to be quite touching? I was asked to do a reading next Sunday at church and have looked at a few online but cannot find any that feel like they mean something to me. It can be about mothers, grandmothers or even aunts.
I hope it is ok that I posted this here. I thought that this may be the place that someone would have a good christian poem/reading that they could share. Any help would be appreciated. |

Mother's Day Poem
Hi there - I have a poem that an elderly lady from our congregation wrote in 1986 - she was an outstanding example of faith.
_________________________ For the many times you held me close And kissed my tears away For your happy smile that greeted me When I came in from play For all your patience and your love Your guidance day by day "God Bless and keep you Mother" Is my prayer for you today. God Bless and keep you Mother Let His love upon you shine Because you taught me how to pray I'm thankful you are mine May our Loving Heavenly Father Grant His grace to you each day Because I love you Mother I ask this for you today. God bless and keep you mother For I need your teaching still I need your faith to lead and guide me As I learn our Father's will May you have peace and contentment Have God's joy in all you do Because I love you Mother This is my prayer for you. by Helen McPhee Guelph, Ontario, Canada _________________________ All the best, Lori |

MORE THAN A MOTHER
When God set the world in place, when He hung the stars up in space, when He made the land and the sea, then He made you and me. He sat back and saw all that was good, He saw things to be as they should. Just one more blessing He had in store; He created a mother, but whatever for? He knew a mother would have a special place to shine His reflection on her child's face. A mother will walk the extra mile just to see her children smile. She'll work her fingers to the bone to make a house into a home. A mother is there to teach and guide, a mother will stay right by your side. She'll be there through your pain and strife, she'll stay constant in your life. A mother will lend a helping hand until you have the strength to stand. She'll pick you up when you are down, when you need a friend she'll stick around. A mother is one who listens well, will keep her word; will never tell. A mother never pokes or pries but stands quietly by your side, giving you the strength you need, encouraging you to succeed. A mother is one who can be strong when you need someone to lean on. You're more than a mother to me; a reflection of Him in your face I see, a love that knows no boundaries. I'm glad that you chose to be all this and more to me. You share a love that knows no end, you're more than my mother, you are my friend.

"MOTHER DAY POEMS"
_________________________________________________ "'YOU CAN SEE IT' You can see it in their eyes, in tender hugs and long good-byes, a love that only moms and daughters know. You can see it in their smiles, through passing years and changing styles, a friendship that continually seems to grow. You can see it in their lives, the joy each one of them derives, in just knowing that the other one is there... To care and to understand, lend an ear or hold a hand, and to celebrate the memories they share. Once upon a memory Someone wiped away a tear Held me close and loved me, Thank you, Mother dear. _____________________________________________ "MOM" Mom, I loved you yesterday, I love you tomorrow and everyday. You were there for me my first day of school, to hold my hand and give me courage to go. You listened to me when I needed to talk, you talked to me when I needed to listen. You let me grow and learn from my own mistakes. You never left my side when I was feeling down, I knew you would be there to pick me up. I wish there was a way I could repay all the things you have done for me, but there's nothing great enough to repay the greatest mother of all. __________________________________________________ _______ "DEAR LORD" Dear Lord, it's such a hectic day With little time to stop and pray For life's been anything but calm Since You called on me to be a mom Running errands, matching socks Building dreams with building blocks Cooking, cleaning, and finding shoes And other stuff that children lose Fitting lids on bottled bugs Wiping tears and giving hugs A stack of last weeks mail to read So where's the quiet time I need? Yet when I steal a minute, Lord Just at the sink or ironing board To ask the blessings of Your grace I see then, in my small one's face That you have blessed me All the while And I stop to kiss That precious smile __________________________________________________ _________ "MOTHER" M... is for the million things she gave me, O ... means only that she's growing old, T ... is for the tears she shed to save me, H ... is for her heart of purest gold; E ... is for her eyes, with love-light shining, R ... means right, and right she'll always be. Put them all together, they spell "MOTHER," A word that means the world to me. Last edited by Pcola Girl : 05-09-2008 at 03:58 PM. |

When God Made Moms
By the time the Lord made mothers, he was into his sixth day of working overtime. An Angel appeared and said "Why are you spending so much time on this one"? And the Lord answered and said, "Have you seen the spec sheet on her? She has to be completely washable, but not plastic; have 200 movable parts, all replaceable; run on black coffee and leftovers; have a lap that can hold three children at one time and that disappears when she stands up; have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken heart, and have six pairs of hands." The Angel was astounded at the requirements for this one. "Six pairs of hands! No Way!" said the Angel. The Lord replied, "Oh, it's not the hands that are the problem. It's the three pairs of eyes that mothers must have!" "And that's just on the standard model?" The Angel asked. The Lord nodded in agreement, "Yes, one pair of eyes are to see through the closed door as she asks her children what they are doing even though she already knows. Another pair in the back of her head, are to see what she needs to know even though no one thinks she can. And the third pair are here in the front of her head. They are for looking at an errant child and saying that she understands and loves him or her without even saying a single word." The Angel tried to stop the Lord. "This is too much work for one day. Wait until tomorrow to finish." "But I can't!" the Lord protested, "I am so close to finishing this creation that is so close to my own heart. She already heals herself when she is sick AND can feed a family of six on a pound of hamburger and can get a nine year old to stand in the shower." The Angel moved closer and touched the woman, "But you have made her so soft, Lord." "Yes, she is soft", the Lord agreed, "But I have also made her tough. You have no idea what she can endure or accomplish." "Will she be able to think?", asked the inquisitive Angel. The Lord smiled and replied, "Not only will she be able to think, she will be able to reason, and negotiate." The Angel then noticed something and reached out and touched the woman's cheek. "Oops, it looks like you have a leak with this model. I told you that you were trying to put too much into this one." "That's not a leak." The Lord objected. "That is a tear!" "What's the tear for? the Angel asked. The Lord said, "The tear is her way of expressing her joy, her sorrow, her disappointment, her pain, her loneliness, her grief, and her pride." The Angel was impressed. "You are a genius, Lord. You thought of everything! Truly, You do all things well... Moms are truly amazing!" Happy Mother's Day! |
