Prozak: I just reviewed the section in Barry's book (Natural Health and Weight Loss) about children. It seems he doesn't have anything against "fruit"..but in moderation, of course.
Cereals can be another matter as well as white flour, etc. Of course, there are many good LC recipes on the board. Barry mentions using less bread and is all for cutting back on grains/etc. I think it shouldn't be a cold turkey type of thing until you can replace the cereals, etc. with something equally as satisfying. My kids are grown..but Brett comes home in the summer from college and last summer he ate carbs only at lunch and lost weight. At dinnertime, he eats lowcarb with us and never was one for desserts, so that worked out fine. Good luck..

Sandy: The play sounds like fun..enjoy it!

Arlene: Have a fun day tomorrow..Sounds like a great time!!!

My kids are 18 and 20. If I had to do it all over again, there would be NO potatoes and NO grains in the house.

As it is, I am switching the 18 year old to low carb. We already started replacing his Doritos with pork rinds. They both work equally well for scooping hot salsa

Since Max is developmentally disabled, he is kind of at my mercy...though he will tell me if something is "yucky"

My kids are raised too but they and all the grandkids know there's nothing "good to eat" at my house, lol. I've made a few too many exceptions to that the last couple of months. But I'm back on track now.

My kids already hate potatoes YAY! (that includes french fries LOL but I still have to order the 'kids meal' for the toys and throw the evil things away LOL)

i am fine with fruit... but am now trying to incorporate fats when they do eat it.. cheese and or cream goes well with that.

My middle child has an oat allergy.. so we already have to avoid so many cereals and breads I used to be sad about it, but not any more!

Thanks ladies

I think you can just buy the toy with out the meal!
I know I used to purchase an extra toy occasionally - just ask!

My kids are almost grown - I'll have 3 home this summer.
DD21 already eats LC, DS19 & DS15 do when they're home.
I've tried to instill the whole grain bread (at the very least) when they're at Subway or some other place.
They're going to have to figure it out for themselves!

Just a quickie, as my stomach feels worse as the day progresses. I made a simple microwave coconut vanilla custard this morning, and Jeff really loved it. Danny could only handle a bite, the state he's in, but liked it, too. Thought I'd share it.

Coconut Vanilla Custard

1/2 cup coconut flour
dash of salt
1/3 cup erythritol
1/3 to 1/2 cup DaVinci vanilla syrup
1 to 2 ts vanilla
2 large or jumbo eggs
1 cup water
1 cup heavy cream
1 Tb Thick'n'Thin NotStarch
2 ts butter added at the end

Whisk the eggs, then whisk in the wet ingredients. Then whisk in the dry. Nuke 2 minutes, then whisk to blend. The start nuking 1 minute, whisking, nuking 1 minute again, whisking... Repeat til the mixture has thickened to a soft thick liquid. Whisk in the butter, then chill to let the pudding set. It will thicken more on cooling, and will be a soft custard, slightly grainy (not smooth like regular vanilla pudding) with a taste and texture somewhat like a creamy rice pudding. Very good! Would be good with a little nutmeg on top. This makes 6 small servings, with around 5 grams carb per serving.

I guess I should post it in the recipe area, too. Then off to the sofa for me! LOL Take care, all,

Lene'

Prozak - I eat nuts all the time - it's my crunchy snack!

Today's snack was thinly sliced deli ham wrapped around avocado.
Yum!!

Lene - that sounds yummy!

Hi kids..

Best nuts are the lower carb ones.almonds, walnuts, pecans, macadamias..Cashews and pistachios are carbier, but all nuts in moderation cuz the calories add up really fast..really fast..really fast..

MKay: 3 kids at home this summer? Wowee..You will be busy cooking and cleaning, huh?

Lene: Yup..I made a "run" to Walgreens and got some Zantac150 (I got the Walgreen kind) and took 2. This does help alot. The last time I had this and ended up in the ER, the dr. prescribed Zantac 300 and it really helped me feel alot better..HTH..Your pudding looks good..I have made custard with coconut milk in the past..nommie.

Prozak: My Barry book is right here by the puter, so ask away.

Hi to everyone else..

Hi all!

Carolyn - with just the 2 boys home, I'm amazed at how fast we go through milk!
My grocery bill is going to go up quickly!

DD21 won't be here until Tuesday.
Thank heavens DD24 only stops by when she's in town.

TuscanG, what kind of milk do you feed your family?

Oh I made Cleo's zucchini crust for mexican pizza, there might not be any left before the toppings hit it!

Prozak: Yes, Cleo does have a mean pizza crust. I'll have to try the zuke one..

MK, do you have a Costco by you? I couldn't believe how much cheaper they were on milk! Also you might try Carolyn's milk recipe. It tastes just like real milk to me and I know it would save $$ making it in quantity too.

Thank you for the lovely card. I guess I mothered "right". The birds all flew the coop and are independent young (37 & 39) adults with families of their own now. Both of them came back home once but that was it and that was ok.

I'm so proud of myself! 5 full days of eating right and my weight is dropping off nicely, thank you very much. I'm back into my safe zone but I'm not pushing it this weekend. I'm also noticing my back is not hurting at all either since I went back to no junk, like sugar. Actually no white food this week at all except a little milk and cream. And I feel so much better.

The play was very funny! One of the best we've seen. Dinner was good too. I ordered chicken piccatta with asparagus instead of the starch. Very yummy. And when the others got fudge at the candy shop I went and got a latte instead. Which made me hot through the whole play, but hey at least it wasn't sugar! Lol.

I'm going to visit my mom today and take her flowers and out to lunch if she feels like it. We have plans with the kids tomorrow.

Have a great day everybody! And Arlene, I hope your book got there.

Oh I forgot, I woke up at 5 a.m. today and I could tell DH was waking up too. He had to work today so we got up and went to an early breakfast and I had him drop me off about 2 miles from the house with Bailey and we walked home. So I got in some exercise already too. Woohooo! And Bailey sure loved it of course. It's a very hilly 2 miles too. I was wondering if I'd made the right choice by the time I made it to the top of the first hill, lol.

Morning Sandy!
You did do it right!

I don't drink milk - just use soy sometimes in recipes, so I probably won't go to great lengths to make my own!

Enjoy your weekend!

I have no idea what we're planning here - but I did hear where Matt Damon might be tomorrow, so I might try to track him down!

Good morning to all..

Yikes..I am off the grainy carbs..I don't care if my tummy is upset...I gained up to 145 this morning after having several pieces of LC bread yesterday. And, I didn't have that much food at all, so I know it was the evil bread..

I'm having my first cup of coffee since Wednesday..Rather it's coffee flavored LC milk..more LC milk than coffee.

Sandy: We are so impressed with you............All that energy/no back pain/and losing weight to boot and Bailey got his exercise. I love chicken piccatta, too..

MKay: That's right you are lactose intolerant, aren't you? Have you had the unsweetened Almond Breeze?

My friend, Susan is getting married this afternoon at 5 in our church. Gary and I will definitely go..although I don't think I'll be dancing on the tables or anything. They are having a barbecue in the park afterwards. I know I won't overeat..LOLOLOL..

Hi to all our Barry girls...........It's fun having some new faces..

Funeral was OK.
DH and I went out to lunch - I did great up to the strawberry pie . . .
Then the grocery store and now I'm making food for tonight.
Brownies are in the oven.

Carolyn - have fun tonight!!
I forget to even have milk now - I had some Almond Breeze in the pantry and threw it out this week because it had expired!

Hi everyone....

Just a quick giggle for you all...

Yet another reason not to do WW. You have to put a mean cat in your fridge who gets in your face when you run out of points!

I went nuts last night in the Walmart cooking department. I bought a coffee grinder, a kitchen scale, a 2 pack of non-stick silicon mats, and a 16" non-stick pizza pan.

The silicon mats and the pizza pan are because last time I tried to make cauli-pizza, the crust bonded to my cookie sheet so bad I still can't get it all off. I used to new pizza pan to make the cheese and egg crust pizza. It was great It made the scale tick up 5 lbs, but it's all water. It should be gone in a day or so

I bought a bag of New Mexico Pinon coffee beans to use in my new grinder. Major yummmm!
