Hi Everyone...Newbie here!
![]() Well, today is day five of my low-carb lifestyle (again). I first started Atkins about ten years ago...at that time, it was strictly "Atkins". I lost weight, but, as so many of us do, I'd go off and back on it. I started again (strictly) when I got engaged, almost 6-years ago, in preparation for my wedding. I lost almost 60 pounds. But, the wedding cake and pancake breakfasts on the honeymoon did me in...that, along with the fact that I married a Chef. One good thing that I did find out, during that last big weightloss, is that I guess I don't really do "Atkins", anymore. From reading info on various "Low Carb Diets", I am surprised to find that the program I developed myself, is almost the same as "Carbohydrate Addict's"..."Protein Power". Even though I didn't realize that's what I was doing, I try to limit my carbs to 10-15 net carbs per meal, and less than 50 per day. Those carbs are never "sugar carbs" or "white starches". I try to make them "vegetable/fruit carbs". Doing this, I found I still turned the keto-stix purple, and I didn't have the "potassium loss", and I still lost weight. It actually made me very happy, when I read the description of that program, because it affirmed my beliefs. This past Sunday, I went out and bought all of my familar foods. I had less than 40 net carbs, the past five days. I feel like I've finally taken-off, on a long anticipated vacation. My exercise program (at this time), is Leslie Sansone's "Walk-Away the Pounds" DVD's & VHS tapes. I have several of them, and can do walks anywhere from 1-mile up to 5-miles, all in the comfort of my home. I'm presently only doing 1-mile a day, but these are not "easy walks". I bought the weighted balls and hand weights that she uses, to increase the workout, as time goes along. I also bought a mini-trampoline and a set of "Urban Rebounding" tapes, but I have problems with my knee, so I will not use the trampoline...not for awhile. They do have some great ab workouts you can do, by sitting on the trampoline, though. I may try some of those. As of today, my goal is to lose 50-pounds. I could probably lose another 20, but I will worry about that, after I achieve my first goal. Last edited by Melle : 04-24-2008 at 05:45 PM. |

Well, I just went over to ebay and purchased the book. I used "Buy it now", so I should be receiving it shortly. I can't wait to read all the information.

Well, yesterday was my 12'th day, and I lost 4 more pounds...total of 8 pounds in 12-days!
![]() But, yesterday was also the first day of that horrible time that I always gain at least 5-pounds of water weight...bloating. I had gained back 2-pounds, this morning. So, I'm glad I weighed yesterday, so I know for a fact it's just water and I'll lose it in a few days. |

Melle~I used to have that problem, but since LC I haven't had the bloating and cramping like I used to. It's weird I know, but I am not complaining

Well, today I can tell that I'm starting to "purge some of the water weight". By this Sunday morning, I should be ready to weigh, again. It's too depressing, to weigh, until then.
![]() I did try an Egg Cream, this morning. It was TOTALLY satisfying. I think I may start drinking Egg Creams for breakfast and lunch, for awhile. |

You guys really enjoy the egg cream? I can't say I have ever tried one. Melle, never get down about the scale. I swear it is evil! Have you taken your measurements? That is a good way to find out how you are doing. Do the two of you workout?

That's a good idea, because now that you mention it, there were times before, that I lost inches...lots of inches, but didn't lose pounds. |

That is how I am "losing" now. I don't even go near my scale. Too much fluctuation. ape measures don't lie
