Adam,
I'll give you more information than you asked for ... it helps my motivation to remember where I was and where I'm going.. was a junior olympic cyclist in the early eighties... went to college... got married... turned into a lazy tub of lard for 20 years. When I turned 40 in 05 I vowed to give up the crap.. (too much alcohol, chewing tobacco etc..) and drop some weight.. I got rid of the tobacco and cut back on the booze but with it came more weight gain which was ok at the time giving up the chew is some tough stuff to deal with. In 06 - 07 I ate low carb for the year but did not have much success... something was missing. In August 07 I went to the doc and he was not happy with the weight..bloodwork.. and cardiac function and sent me off to a specialist for stress tests etc.. this really pissed me off and I went home instead and dusted off the bike and have been on it daily ever since. It's been an exciting and challenging journey combining low carb with intense exercise and dealing with having to "rest" unlike the eighties when I rode my ass off every day and didn't need recovery.. I raced a bit this year and have done ok I know I'm no spring chicken and I'm still 60 lbs over ideal cyclist weight but I'm having fun and I can kick the crap out of most people on the road and that keeps me happy |

So as I'm shopping today at Wally world, the Subway in there was baking some fresh bread. The whole damn place smelled of it. Ugh.

Hey everyone,
Slatman good intell sometimes alls one needs is a visit to the doc to get ones ass in gear. Keep it up. I finally got back down to where I was last week. Feeling motivated today for some reason. Going to do some bodyweight exercise today and will throw some free weights in there for good measure. I bought myself a mp3 player for some tunes while I run. Though I haven't used it yet for running (need a different set of earbuds) I think I'm going to like this thing. I'm driving my kids crazy loading up my tunes that I haven't played in forever. Ken I hear you on the shopping Nazi. I was the same way. Now I don't let DW shop if I can help it. She still thinks the kids need that crap like chips and chocolate covered doughnuts or whatever. The kids b*tched for a week or so but now they don't miss that crap. Now when they do have some carbage like ice cream they appreciate it as it should be a treat. Well time to go sweat have a great day Ed out.

Hey Guys...Harley Checking In.
Nice work Adam..I know it's tough to stay away when friends are indulging in that stuff. Not too much to report today. Eating on plan...yada, yada. Tonight I have to help my wife move some furniture for a family that she is trying to help out. They have fallen on bad times and basically lost everything. My wife has found them some furniture that has been donated, so we are picking it up and delivering it to them. Shouldn't be too tough, but its hard to believe that they have gotten that far into a hole where they can only have a couple of lawn chairs and nothing else. It make a person feel pretty grateful for the small creature comforts that we do have. Take care gents! Harley Out! |

Thursday Evening
Harley, good on you and the wife, its always nice to help others out, especially when they appreciate it so much
Ed, i couldnt get by without the Mp3 player for running, just dont put any slow type songs on there for running, i find myself slowing down when that happens well i pushed it a bit today, upped the running up 2 minutes to 32mins non stop (well i had to stop for the stoplight for a sec) not sure how far i ran, im gonna go out in the car later to get an idea i find the from 2-6 minutes the hardest when im running, then my body gets used to it, felt real tired after that though on tap tonite is the p90 sculpt/abs workout, i really like this next level we started, seems like its more geared to areas i need work on, theres a mess of different pushups on there and the wife hates them, which i can understand i cant actually believe we have done this together for so long, we havent killed each other! well eats were on track today pretty much, i skipped my usual bran flakes this morning to mix it up a bit, had an early protein shake and i havent really been hungry all day, a little lean on the greens today though check in later

Yo what up all?
I just gotta say that buffalo wings have got to be one of the best low carb meals there is. I always go to Buffalo Wild Wings (fomerly BW-3 for all you midwesterners) and they have a fantastic spicy garlic sauce with only 1g carb/oz. The wings aren't breaded so with some celery and ranch, you've got yourself a pretty low carb meal. Pretty fired up about getting my first pair of 34 jeans yesterday. I don't know how accurate the sizing is on Unionbay cheap-ass jeans from Kohl's is, but hell even if it is more like a 36, still feels good to buy something other than a 38! Sale price of $7 didn't hurt anything either. Been pretty weak on the workouts this week. 1 90 min soccer game played about 50 minutes total, 1 super hard climbing workout, and one medium effort session in the gym. Gotta get better about it. Slatman, I'm also a former cyclist. Not a junior olympian by any means but was cat3 when I was about 18 and had a 13k mile season before I just got sick of it. I'd love to get back into it. I'm dying to get a fixie. Any ideas on the best way to build/buy one? Also what's your opinion on training on a fixed? Stay on it fellaz and we'll all be thin and ripped before too long. ****** Out!

Friday Morning
Corpus, i have to agree wings are excellent, i bought some yesterday and they were huge, gonna BBQ them up tonite with some spices and such, also gonna serve with some veggies or a salad, im already getting hungry thinking about it
was pretty happy this morning, saw a nice number on the scale today, i think that would be my VFZ, i hope i can keep it there till monday, shouldnt be a problem though, just have to stay on point, well that job posting at my work closed yesterday, so now its just a waiting game , see if they call for an interview or not, i really hope they arent going to play games, sometimes my manager likes to play these games where he thinks he can give the job to anyone, qualifications or not, being in a union I may have to pull a heavy if this happens, god i hate waiting |

Harley Checking in.
We picked up the furniture last night and my wife delivered it. She's a social worker so she needs to take the credit for being a nice/helpful person...not me so much! I just got done with lunch and now it feels like spring. The roadside smoked pork/rib place has opened up close to work. I had some cherry smoked pulled pork and it was wonderful. I get it dry and dip it in yellow mustard...one of my favorite Friday lunches. Don't forget to call your mothers this weekend! Harley Out! |

Afternon Campers,
Going camping this weekend and need to keep my arse clean. I hate coming home and seeing all the weeks effort wasted. So my plan is to stay away from the booze and focus on the eats. I have a couple of london broils to roast up along with some pork chops with some homemade BBQ sauce. Weather doesn't look all that great Rain today and showers tommorrow but we'll make do. |

Friday nite
checkin in , was contemplating having a little treat tonite after the workout, but ive been real clean, and mindful of eating higher carb stuff at nite, and seeing all the positive stuff going on in here, im gonna skip the treat, im may have a sugar free treat instead
dinner tonite was a salad and wings, felt kinda content after, but then 2 hrs later the wife and i were pretty hungry, we exercised and that took care of some of the hunger im just now realized the odd time im not really hungry, but i just WANT something, it is a different feeling than hungry and ive now able to distinguish the two, cuts down on a lot of unnecessary snacking, i had (have) a problem with that, i too will keep it clean for the rest of the weekend, we are going to an amusement park sunday, i will make sure i plan ahead of time, i aint eating the crap they have there! |

saturday AM
yeah they have funnel cakes at canada's wonderland, thats actually what the wife has been talkin about for the last 3 weeks, i think she is getting some tomorrow, i may try a taste, but that type of thing isnt my favorite
well i went to the local home improv. store, picked up all my tiles, plywood, mortar, grout, spacers and some wainscotting, only to get home and ask the wife hey wheres the chair rail moulding?? turns out it was sitting on the ground in the parking lot cause i didnt want it to get wrecked while i loaded the tiles and wood - had to run back and it was still there!!! next the family went to the local firehall and signed up for the community cleanup day, just spent the last 2 hours walking around and picking up garbage in the ditches, filled a good 4 bags, and found a bunch of wood, metal shelves weird what people throw in the ditch! oh i also found a pair of kids underwear which was a little weird, next we goto the local community center and the kids get a hot dog ice cream lunch, I took a page from Harley's book with volunteering , i dont think the kids had a good time, but maybe they did learn how dirty people can be with garbage check in later in the day |

Saturday early PM
Hey fellas. Just checkin this thing out. My sister has been on this low carb thing for awhile, doing well. I was about 155 before I got injured in Iraq and thanks to laying around in Bethesda for months and the meds I went up to over 200. I've been doing this lc thing now, the weight comes off pretty fast, but like others have said, since I'm working out sometimes the pounds lost don't show up on the scale because there is muscle mass gained. Not able to work out like I used to before I was injured, my back and neck are kinda messed up. I've heard about that 90PowerX thing (or whatever it's called). Can anyone enlighten me on that (what kind of equipment is needed, how heavy duty is the cardio/strength training)? So there's a 10 lb challenge for May? Hmm, it's already the 10th but I can do it. Best of luck to all you gents. Later!

heya dvldawgmd, right now im doing the power 90, not the P90X though, that is so intense, all you need for it is some free weights up to 20 lbs or so or some resistance bands instead, and maybe a mat for the floor if its not carpet, unless you are a cardio master, its recommended to start with either the P90 or theres another one called slim in 6 (i think its mostly for girls) basically its a six day workout week with sunday as the rest day, Mon Wed, Fri are cardio/sweat days with Abs, with tues Thurs, Sat being sculpt days there are a few DVD's in the set, we started the level 1-2 and did it for 30 days and now we are on the level 3-4, theres also a master series if that isnt enough with level 5-6 on it, We sweat our asses off every night still , its a pretty decent workout, my wife and i do it together and i look forward to it now, anyhow hope it answers your question, any more jsut ask, and welcome to the group, these guys are the best in here, dont be afraid to ask for help if you need it, we are all here for each other |

Hey guys. Thanks for the reply Shiner. I'm working long hours these days, and I have a ton of other stuff going on so I may order that Power 90 -- I checked it out on the net and it looks pretty fun. It just is taking so much time going to the gym then work 10-14 hours then cook meals, and I am involved in some post-war support groups a couple nights a week, so working out at home would be great. I've been learning to cook by myself (my girlfriend usually doesn't allow me near major appliances) and it's been good so far. She had banished me from the kitchen after I almost started a fire by burning rice. Rice. The only things used in cooking rice are rice and water. But I've improved since then. Tonite I had two burgers with cheese and shrooms with daikon fries (those were awesome!). I ate the heck outta those f%#@ers. Time to hit the rack, 0430 hrs. comes awful early.

What up everyone? Interesting weekend although nothing too exciting to report. My girlfriend was in Vegas so I was left to find things to do. Basically ate a lot of wings and had multiple Michelob Ultra beers. Probably not the best idea but at least it's pretty low carb.
Also resisted temptation at a birthday party. The ONLY food available was (huge stacks of) Little Ceaser's pizza. I can't even tell you how good it looked and smelled but I was able to stay away. I would have destroyed at least one given the chance. Anyway fellas, look forward to the weigh-in tomorrow. Good luck! |

What's up guys? Been a busy weekend. I don't get a chance to work out on saturday or sunday because of time commitments. I think I will do what Shiner suggested and invest in some taped workouts/cardio (like power 90). My sister has been trying to lose weight for years and has found some success with the lc lifestyle. I am encouraging her to the hilt, I've seen it done before many times already, as are many of you. I did also encourage her to get online and mix with some people in the same boat, and join a challenge like this, but I did not encourage her to come here, because this is, afterall, a place for men sans the emoticons, correct? Heh heh. Still have plenty of carbs left for the day but it's already 1430 hrs. so probably will just have a flaxmeal muffin and call it a day; sticking to the limit of 20g/day at least for another 2-3 weeks. Keep up the good work troops!
