Good luck Kim! Keep us posted. I can see why Lyle says the workouts are optional. I did my second weights workout today since I started psmf 3 days ago and I can definitely tell I am not as strong. Jeanie

Jeanie,

Hi -thanks for the support... looks like you don't have much to lose - how long do you plan on doing PSMF for? I have 50 and maybe a little more - I'll be happy to get the first 20 off though... I know that that will make a big difference in self-esteem, clothing options,,, getting me on my way....

What do you do for exercise?

I did get the Callanetics DVD in the mail today - so tomorrow (after brushing off my b-day cake crumbs, I'm going to do that in the morning...

I recently purchased a kettlebell (it is the smallest one they offered, I think either 16 or 18 lbs.) I'll do that for weight bearing exercises... and my poor doggies need their morning walks which I have been very neglectful of as of lately....

Janamonkey, thanks for your message - what does YMMV (if I have the initial right? stand for?) I understand the reluctance of EC - I just happen to be a college kid from the 80's and let's just say - not so scared of a little pharmacology... (hope that is not offensive to anyone...) you know, better living thru pharma... ha, ha

So -guys - I'm happy to be part of the group -

Thanks Diva for starting this thread - after your message suggesting really getting the facts and understanding this diet - I order the ebook (and the hardback) I printed it out (entirely- much to my husbands chagrin) and placed it in a three ring binder - I'm highlighting stuff - but basically - lean protein, take your supplements, low fat, little exercise - definitely include some weight bearing, lifting to your week - I think I've got it... now to make sure the hunger monster listens to me... and preparation (that is key)

- talk to ya later!

Kim

Hi Kim,
I am probably only going to do psmf for a couple of weeks and then cycle to low carb (atkins syle) and then back to psmf again. Like you, I just want to get a jump start for motivation and looser clothing.
Right now I am just doing full body weight workouts (Joyce Vedral dvds). I used to do intervals on my bike and hike and walk but I am giving that up while on psmf. I took the bronkaid yesterday and today with coffee. Only about 8mg though.I split the tablet in thirds. Tomorrow I am going to do 12.5 half the tablet split in two doses. It does give me a little more energy and I feel warmer than usual but I feel kind of sleepy as it wears off. I put my goal at 135 pounds. That will probably be too heavy for my 5'2 inch frame, but I'll see how things look when I get there. Jeanie

Great losses there Jean...congrats! I was really hungry too around 10am this morning...had some celery...I was still hungry...lol. drank some good ole h2o, waited for lunch, and had a hard time making my protein count today because I just was NOT hungry by the time I got home from work. I think the fish pills are helping with that somewhat...since they are a fat.

Okay - here I go

Morning... as you guys might remember - yesterday was my birthday... (a big one - 45 yikes - how the _ _ _ _ did that happen!!!)

I'm going start a journal - cause I don't think here would be fair to the rest of the team - but today is the day - you know, the first day of the rest of my life!!!

Prepared this morning...

Did about 1/2 (I think of the Callanetics) boy that was hard....BUT - INFORMERCIAL ALERT.. . ( in case any of you subcumb to those.... I do, have too many times....) the Fluidity program is very, very similar - so - don't waste your money - I think that things ends up being (3 DVDs and the bar contraption) around $250.00 maybe even higher!!!

I boiled three eggs - ate only one of the yolks... (dogs love me as they had the other two) and I have chicken for lunch... (have to work on getting the veggies in my lunch....) took all supplements & fish oil... did EC (forgot to ease into it... took the whole 25mg... little shaky right now...)

So - I am off and am doing this!!!

I'll weigh in tomorrow - (it'll be our secret, kay?)

Good Luck Kim! Today is day 3 for me, and I'm tolerating the EC much much better! I also keep a more detailed journal in lyle mcdonald's forum. I like sharing my daily losses and gains with the group...I may stop putting in my caloric info though, and leave that for my other journal. Boring for everyone else

good morning-

Well, I decided that I will not have a free meal today- when I thought about it, Sunday was basically a free day- so, I will wait until Saturday to have something more-

So, I got more protein rich foods so I do not have to rely on the shakes as much- and some fat free mayo- which isn't really that bad if you add enough seasoning

I am still weighing in at 223- hoping to get back down to 221 or lower soon!

Workingmom- I know what you mean about the birthdays coming so quickly- can't believe I am facing 41 this year! Going to aim to make the 2nd half of my life healthier and happier!

Ok everyone- have a great day!

OH, I just remembered-

Do you ladies use a food scale? I am thinking of getting one- I cannot determine how many oz. of meat etc. I am getting by eyeballing it- I hope they are not very expensive....

Hey everybody... thanks for the congrats. I'm 160 today after my free meal. Curse you french fries...LOL, but I'm looking forward to measuring this Friday, I hope those are looking good since all this diet sluttery (the refeeds and whatnot) make the scale numbers a lot more relative.

Shamrock, I got a nice, inexpensive food scale from WallyWorld for about $6/$7. I think there was a cheaper white plastic one, but I wanted the metal dish because I thought it would be easier to clean and more sanitary if I wanted to weigh raw meat.

Good luck. This works if you work it!

Suzan

(Sorry I'm so rushed today, business is good, which really cuts into my diet and chatting time, darnit!)

Ok, thanks Diva- I'll go to Walmart tonight and see what I can get-

Janamonkey- see- weight going down already!

So my diet for today so far has been: 1 can tuna, with 1Tlbs. ff mayo, 1 pickle, 2 oz(I think)turkey

So, for dinner, I will grill a london broil, and some zucchini.....I have to figure out how much london broil I get to eat- thats why I need the scale, because I can be dangerous....

Wow...this day is flying back- can't believe it is afternoon already. I'm watching one of my "once-in-a-while" drop in kiddos today and she is definitely keeping me on my toes (12 months old). I was happy to see a 2 pound loss this morning!! YEAH I feel I deserved it after doing my 30 day shred video followed by 1 mile quick walk/light jog on the treadmill last night.

Today is a free meal for me. Decided to go with the LC lasagna, although I could honestly be just as happy with my usual meals. Hoping for little to no gain tomorrow. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

My Menu

1) 1 C Hood CC and 1 scoop PP
2) 2 oz turkey
3) 1 BallPark FF hotdog
4) LC Lasagna (4 oz ground turkey, 2 oz Dreamfields pasta, 1/4C LF Ricotta, 1.5 oz LF Mozzarella, 1/2 C sauce) w/ 1.5 C bagged salad
5) Kozy Shack SF pudding cup (going to try the Apple Pie A La Mode tonight!!)
Totals: 900 cals 20f/38c/104p

Shamrock~ I wouldn't be able to live without my food scale!! LOL I have a Salter food scale that I've had for a few years now. I'm a numbers kind of gal so for me its reassurance! As soon as I bring meat home from the market I automatically take some aside and weigh it, bag it and label it (how many oz) before throwing it into the freezer so that there is little thinking involved when preparing meals. I also use the grams to measure out salad dressings, protein powder, etc because I don't "trust" measuring spoons/cups (or at least my ability to use them accurately)!

Kim~ Hope you enjoyed your birthday...I think we should automatically be granted weight gain immunity by the scale gods on at least 1 day a year

Jana~ I almost went with sweet potato today! Definitely one of my favorites!!

Nil~ still losing and doing great! Keep up the great work! BTW I certainly don't find anyone's food/calorie/exercise journaling boring- gives me ideas and keeps me motivated!

Hi and Hello to Suzan, Jeanie (and everyone else I'm forgetting...sorry)!
Check back Later,
~Danielle~

Yesterday was grocery day at work, and I was sooooo tired when I got home that I'm behind in reading my groups.... After replacing the faucet to my water filter on Saturday, the sink itself completely plugged up! Ugggh!!! So we've been busy with that the last couple of days. Had to rent a snake and scour out the pipes under the house. Plus the weather is just absolutely crazy here, with every other day rain projections. Not good for the vertigo.

I like to eat what I'm particularly missing and/or wanting for free meals, but that doesn't usually work out for me. Cuz we generally go to a friend's house for Sunday dinner, which gives me little control over what I eat. When we don't do that, I spend my free meals on things like tacos, cheeseburgers, french fries, ice cream, homemade breads, potatoes, sweet potatoes, dreamfields pasta, or something a little bit more fatty like alfredo sauce, hot wings, or jalapeno poppers.

Today is a refeed for me, so we're having teriyaki marinaded chuck steak (a more fattier cut than I would otherwise grill) and large baked potatoes. Plus dinner rolls. I kicked off the refeed with a large, ham and swiss cheese sandwich, cuz I'm particularly partial to bread. I just LOVE it. And find sandwiches to be an easy way to get my protein in at the same time as my extra carbs. Plus I also had a 1oz bag of cheetos. Just because. I made fat-free pumpkin oatmeal raisin cookies to munch on for the afternoon, and will finish up the day with a nice bowl of full-fat ice cream. Strawberry swirl.

I do two full-body workouts per week, the beginner's exercise handbook that came with my diet booklet, and was able to do one complete set yesterday for the first time! Yeah for me! I didn't do the split squats yesterday though. As I wanted to see if a full set of regular ones would be too much. It wasn't, so next week, I'll add a "few" split squats to my routine, since they seem to be the ones that are so hurtin'. I also do 2 or 3 days of light aerobic exercise, either a bit of dancing or I ride my exercise bike for something like 20 to 30 minutes or so. A sloooow pace though.

I use Rexall premium fish oil softgels, and take 3 per meal. They're 1200 mg each, so that's a bit over the 10g recommendation. In the beginning I was taking 6 salmon oil softgels, but these were a much bigger bottle. I also take 1 Metab-O-Lite Plus pill (cuz that's what I already had on hand), since they're 10mg of E each, with a can of diet shasta vanilla coke. Today, I took 2 though, and seem to be doing okay with that. So I'll move to my one box of Primitene tabs (that I also have on hand) when I'm done with the Metabs, then go hunting for the Bronkaid. I've been dieting for quite some time, so I KNOW that my systemic nervous system NEEDS them.

I haven't gotten brave enough to try scrambling egg whites with veggies yet, but I did ignore the knee-jerk reaction I had when I threw away the yolks this morning in order to make my cookies. I do whole eggs on the weekends with my husband, or when I'm eating out, but so far haven't HAD to do anything different. I'm mindful of the fact that the day "might" come when I HAVE to resort to Eggbeaters, or throwing away my yolks, but that day isn't here yet.

My husband COMPLETELY supports what I'm doing, but thinks throwing away yolks is a bit extreme. So I only do that when I'm cooking. If I wasn't losing weight, though, he would adapt. He basically eats what I eat, for breakfast and dinner. Which is why I'm currently eating whole eggs on the weekends. I do add "extras" to his dinner plate, like rice or cranberry sauce or leftover breads from my refeeds, since he doesn't eat very much in the daytime. He's in the construction field, and doesn't want to eat too much for lunch cuz it makes him tired. So he's more of a grazer when he gets home.

When I'm Hungry, that's HARD on me, but when I'm not, it's okay. So I try not to allow myself to get too hungry.

We found a food scale at a yard sale several months ago, so I DO use one "occasionally." It's really helpful in the beginning, with portion control. Because it's hard to know what 6 or 8 oz of meat looks like. Now I play a game with myself. I guess how much I think the piece of meat weighs, then weigh it out to see if I'm right. Sometimes yes, sometimes no, and I've been doing this for WEEKS. So it's really, really HARD to guess. Even if you aren't a newbie to this kindda thing. Error tends to run "less" than what it really is.

Jana, I really LOVE your condensing idea, so I think I'm going to do that too. Hope you don't mind, but my stats are getting really, really long and I have a long ways to go still since I'm doing this for a full 6 weeks before I take another break. Glad to see the scale is moving back down for you!

Day 1: 180.4

Day 7: 174.4

Day 13: 172.2 VT + 1/2 FM
Day 14: 174 1/2 FM
Day 15: 174.8
Day 16: 174.8
Day 17: 173.2 Refeed

It was kind of a knee-jerk reaction this morning, to see the scale pause on Day 16, then begin to move down this morning, with today being my refeed day and all. But I know if I don't take it, I'll be sorry in a couple of days. Because I'm already extended by a day. I think the difference is in how I feel. It's been 8 days since my last refeed, and I'm still feeling good, so 300 carbs worked well for me.

The school where I work is having hot dog day tomorrow so I think I'll do a free meal for lunch.

tonight was free meal night. I have to be honest, i've been sort of stressing about it all day. I like how i feel, and what i'm seeing on my scale...I don't want to blow it! Soooo...decided that one thing i really miss is pasta. I did some dreamfields penne, with some marinara, and turkey italian sausage, sliced in a few olives as well, and a dinner roll. My 16yr old loved it. Will admit it was very tasty indeed. Now I feel stuffed...moo. and I'm afraid of my scale in the AM

As a Cat3, I am supposed to get 2 free meals per week. Do I really have to do them both, if I'm OK with what I am doing psychologically (that seemed to be the main point of them anyway)? I can see doing one on weekends with the family...but I don't really think I need two, at least not right now. Maybe I'll try just one after I get back from new orleans and see how that works.

I don't do a food scale...I am a horrible planner. I go by the cup of your hand, deck of cards, seat of your pants...etc. theory. Which is also the way I cook / bake...I also have a tendancy to buy foods in pkg quantities that are just right...i.e., tuna in the envelopes, for 1 serving...and now that they have the tuna steaks and chix breasts like that...i'm in 7th heaven. Grab and go. I just separated and packaged all my supplements and such for my trip. TSA is going to think i'm running drugs for crying out loud...LOL

Was hungry again today around 10am again...seems to be the time. Did my celery again...but you know...i'm starting to think celery makes me hungrier. Maybe I'll try bell pepper tomorrow instead.

Have to go pack, tomorrows a travel day. Talk to you Friday! Whooshes for all!!

Good morning!

Nill4me- Exactly- that is exactly what I mean!

Ok, so I bought the scale yesterday at Walmart- last night I had 8 oz. of the london broil, and a medium zucchini, which I sprayed with ff olive oil cooking spray, seasoned with salt and pepper and grilled- everything was so tasty, but I am up to 224 this am???

Does anyone think I overdid it with the london broil? I figured that at 400 calories- the only other thing I had yesterday was 1 can of tuna with ff mayo, half a celery stick, and one green onion, and what I thought was 2 oz. of turkey meat, which said was only 70 calories.....I think I cheated myself on the 2 oz and it was actually less than that. I also drank around 100 oz of water....
My hopes of getting into the swim shorts by Memorial day are dwindling... does anyone have any suggstions?
I also walked for 50 min. yesterday-
What do you ladies think?

Hey shamrock! Do you use a food journal like FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal If not you may want to try. It really helps me see what i am eating, and where my calories are coming from. I couldn't find london broil on fitday, but i found sirloin - different but a comparison. 8oz lean sirloin steak, trimmed to complete 0 fat and broiled = 199.75 calories for 3 oz. so, 8 oz would be almost 600...with almost 36g fat total. Really doesnt sound that unreasonable, for a free meal. I went up this morning too, after my free meal last night. I am think its just the nature of the beast, and will go back down in a day or so. I am probably cutting back to 1 freebie a week though, if i dont feel i need it. I'm not going to stress about it too much, just keep working the plan and watching the weight come off, one way or antoher. Hang in there.

Day 1: 235

Day 3: 230.6 FM
Day 4: 231.8

Shamrock,

I am no expert... but no, I don't think you over did it... who knows, my scale jumps all over the place - (Hey and by the way - I'm 221 today, yesterday being my first day - I went to the bathroom at least 4 times during the night last night... so - I know that I was right there w/you yesterday or so...)

Anyway - how many days have you been doing PSMF? Because it is Mother's Day this weekend - I think I might take a free meal (still don't know if we'll be w/my mom or mil's....) Last year - (yup - on Mother's Day) I made a big announcement that I was on a diet and hell or high water - I was going to get the weight off... (and I was 219....sigh.... ) I don't know if you read it, I've mentioned my experience w/ Kimkins (which was not horrible for me... but I so like the idea of supplements and the free meals psychologically) but I lost over 30lbs. very quickly and slowly by Halloween let it all come back... so although I don't really want to do a free meal yet (ie., this weekend) I don't feel like announcing my again attempt at losing weight... (I have really been trying to not say attempt, or try to lose weight this time... so I wish I hadn't just put it out there (in the universe) like that... I am committed to losing this weight, I will lose weight, become healthier and keep the weight off...

Hang in there... please keep us posted - did you look on lyle's forum - there is a before and after (a 90 day testimonial - granted it is a guy, but I was very impressed because I think you could really tell this guy lost FAT - and 90 days... heck, that seems to come and go so quickly.... ) just think - even half of that (he lost 90) 45 lbs. at our weight would be a HUGE difference - and think of all the summer clothes on clearance!

BTW, how tall are you - I'm 5'5" -

Have a great day!

Kim
