Kat.
Kat, have you read Atkins' book and are you following induction to the letter? The first two weeks of induction needs to have strict adherence...20 net carbs or under each day. If you're eyeballing food, guessing, you could be having "carb creep," eating more carbs than you realize.

The good thing about ketosis is, after usually 48 hrs of induction, you LOSE your appetite, and you're not hungry. If you eat plenty of healthy fats, protein, drink your water and control your carbs, you should do well. Accountability of our food/fuel is as imp as accountability toward our workouts.

Crucial to know the plan. Read the book. Atkins works, but Induction is important for success.

Secondly, our bodies retain water for WEIRD AND SUNDRY reasons. There's no way in H you've gained five pounds of fat in the amount of time you've been at it. Think about it! Nor is it likely you've gained more than a pound of muscle in this amount of time, so it's mostly water retention. This IS NORMAL when you begin a new workout routine, esp a strength training workout. Our muscles sponge up water as part of their recovery.

Try not to weigh more than once a week, don't weigh at night, weigh first in the morning. And I would encourage you to head over to the Induction Board and list your daily menus on a thread, get some input from others on induction, to make sure you're on track with the right food choices.

Don't freak. The Callanetics is working your muscles, no doubt about it.....but that scale number is irrelevant right now. Measure, try on clothes, and place it all in perspective for a few days.

I pray you're right -- I got on the scale this morning after my cardio -- I couldn't figure it out -- I am doing the diet well I believe -- I had 2 eggs for breakfast fried in butter; tuna salad with hardboiled egg and miracle whip (2 net carbs) on lettuce for lunch, and greenbeans with onion and ham (nitrate free) for supper yesterday -- For snacking I had another hb egg, toasted soybeans and green pepper/cucumber slices with italian dressing; I had 50oz of water and 1 cup of coffee with heavy cream, spenda and a dash of vanilla -- do you think its' the caffeine? I know it could be hormonal - -but 5 POUNDS is 5 POUNDS --
As far as measuring goes -- my waistline isn't as tight on my jeans -- but I am staggaring close to 200lbs which is why I started this diet to begin with -- I will only weigh in on Mondays now and only when I first get up. Please tell me that this is worth it?? I am going to do callanetics again today even though I did it yesterday -- maybe it'll help--I always feel better after I do it. <sigh>
Thanks for listening....

Hey wondering if anyone knows the answer to this.

I don't have super C but i do have the book 10 years younger in 10 hours and it had more exercises than the video for example i dont have the open and close in the video and theres an additional hip and behind exercises and as well as this it has the advanced section which tweaks the original stretches slightly and makes them harder and more effective, would this be the equivalent to Super C???

Did my workout yesterday and boy it as hard my tummy was shaking as a tried to do the stomach exercises so i can only imagine its because they're being worked deeper i could hardly do all the reps and today im still feeling it lol

I want to help. K? You're fine.

Nix the Miracle Whip. Go for real mayo. (One example of carb creep)

Do. Not. Be. Afraid. To. Eat. Fat. on Atkins! It's key.

Open a Fitday acount online so you can track your numbers. Try to shoot for 65/70% fat daily.

You're good. Hang in there.

HI!

Hi there - I have been lurking (that's kind of a ugly word, huh) on this thread - waiting for my callanetics 10 in 10 to arrive so that I could join you guys...

Well it did - it arrived yesterday - so I got up early 5:30am (totally inspired by twyla!!!) and pushed play.... I hadn't even previewed the video...and I didn't have time to get through the whole things - although I do plan on doing that this evening...

But I have a question - the hip behind exercise... my goodness - did anybody else have trouble even lifting your leg up... I could barely, I mean barely do this... please tell me that that is normal???? The same as someone else asked - I kinda had to put my hands on the ground - never mind low to do them....

Another thing I just wanted to mention - I totally get sucked into infomercials... really bad.... I have pretty much every exercise thingy ever introduced.... and just to try and save someone/anyone a bit of money - the Fluidity bar and exercise videos - they are almost a complete copy of Callanetics.... so - Callanetics purchased ebay - 15.00 Fluidity (4 equal payments & shipping) $295.00 - (I hope I learned my lesson.... )

Have a great day!

Kim

Hi Kim! & Welcome!
Yes, its 100& normal not to be able to lift your leg/knee at 1st, don't worry as you gain strength(which will happen fast) you will be able to lift your leg/knee 2-3 inches off the floor.
Can't comment about the fluidity bar.......but i will nothing
beats Callanetics, nothing!

I think some of the other ladies here have the fluidity bar, they can throw in their 2 cents about it.

GGF197,

Hang in there hon, I know you are frustrated but Twyla has given you some good advice. Don't rely on your scale, your clothes will tell the tale. I'm fighting to get over the 200lb mark myself and it's a battle, but stay committed to callenetics--it does work. You're doing great, just stay with it.

Did PM of Callanetics AM/PM last night.

Got off track for a few days (resting my swollen knees after a fews hours on my feet Saturday grocery shopping and running various errands). Planning to do Chair Boxing (from Chair Aerobics) today for aerobic exercise, and both halves of AM/PM tomorrow. That'll complete my two AM/PM workouts for my first week.

Wow, this thread is growing fast!

THANK YOU!! I need this so badly...I guess "fat" and the word "diet" never really went together for me, so there is some changes there....also, no fruit? that's hard for me. I did sneak in a big bite of avacado though . I am just going to keep to my routine and post here as I am able -- I am with ya on staying with Callanetics, I know it does me wonders to wind down -- the relaxation is awesome for my mind and body. Here's to another workout!

Last night I was given about 30 minutes notice that my BIL was coming over to watch the basketball tourney, so I was able to work in only half of the 10 in 10. I did the 'important' ones - warm-up, standing and sitting legs, stretches, and stomach.

SITTING LEG EXERCISES - What do you 'lean' on? I have been just lying down and lifting like normal leg lifts, just being sure to turn my leg in. Would it be better to just lean against the couch so I'm more in a lean position??

I use to hang on to my couch but for some reason I get more of a challenge when I grab on to my kitchen chair, Are you referring to the hip/behind exercises?

Good morning everyone.

My name is Mary and I am new to this forum. I hope there is room for one more.

I have just bid through Ebay for the 3 vidoes - 10 years in 10 hours Callanentics, Beginning Callanentics and AM/PM Callanentics.

This is the first time I will be doing any real kind of exercise. I really lack in that department, so I will rely on you ladies for some support and probably some questions.

Hi Mary &
A great place for you to start would be Beginning Callanetics, review that 2-3 times then try the exercises. In Beginning she walks you through step-by-step and you see people of different fitness level doing Callanetics.
Start there and see how that works for you until you are ready for 10/10.

Can I REALLY banish these darn fat thighs for good ?!?!

I'm in the process of losing weight and I'm only doing some walking every other day and I have lost some weight, but walking is not going to tone anything up, as far as I know !

I do have some health problems, mainly hormonal imbalances and also deal with adrenal and cortisol issues, so what that means is I CANNOT do anything too strenous, ie. weight lifting, or excessive cardio like jogging, basically I am trying to heal my body....BUT I also need to lose weight, so when I read about Callanetics I thought, wow, I think I may have found something that might work for me.

But again, it all seems to good to be true.......but I'm going to purchase the DVD anyway, what the hell, I've spent hundreds of dollars on other crap, so I might as well try one more thing !
If you can get the DVD, get it. It's worth it's weight in gold.

I do the exercises in my bedroom and i found the most comfortable thing to take hold of is the back of the chest of drawers lol it comes a gd bit bit above my shoulders so its easy to reach up and grab onto although in the book she says that the height of whatever your holding onto doesn't matter that much so you could use anything.

Today was my off day for Callan - did a WATP cardio.

Moretta: Welcome!

GGF: I still sometimes struggle to get in enough fat. I always have on this WOE. But, once you add it in, the pounds start to drop. Puts lots of butter on your veggies, lots of dressing on your salads. Munch on a slice of triple creme cheese. Also, Twyla is so right - weight varies for many reasons. If you haven't been exercising, just moving those muscles are going to pull some water into your body for awhile. Keep drinking plenty of water and keep after your diet, and don't stop exercising!

Zimasue: I'm fairly new to Callan, but the answer to this question has been "as often as your body will allow" but keeping at least one day of total recovery a week. Some can do it more than others, but I personally find by day 3 it's much harder for me to hold the position properly (which is KEY for Callanetics) so I'm doing a cardio on every 3rd day. That gives me 4x per week.

Only got in about 30 minutes last night. DH had the power off while he did some electrical work so I did a little bit of everything. I've apparently become very reliant on Callan's instructions because every once in a while I would remind myself to 'relax your shoulders' or 'relax your feet'. LOL I also had trouble remembering all the moves but did the waist stretch, underarms, plies, stomach w/both feet on floor, and a bit of legs on the floor.
