Thank you so much everyone for your feedback! I just didn't know how to do the Callanetics and not do it all. I'm hoping the pain subsides enough for me to do Callanetics again. I will work on 10/10 and just do what I can.

Thanks everyone for your care and help.

Hi Honey! I'm so sorry to hear about your flare-up and pain.

I'm not an exercise expert, but you and I both know (only all too well) when/why it's important to really listen to our bodies. So I personally vote that you get some rest until the flare-up & pain pass.

If you feel that you want to do some kind of exercise, maybe some very light yoga? Also, The Lebed Method would be a very good alternative for you during those times when you just don't have the strength for Callanetics:
Amazon.com: The Lebed Method, Focus on Healing Through...Amazon.com: The Lebed Method, Focus on Healing Through...

And did you see SummerSue's wise advice on the last page of the April thread? I agree with her:

I still feel like it's a great workout for me, but I do need the beginner positions still for certain exercises.

I'm joining too! My goal is 15 hours of 10/10 for May. I have completed 3 hours already and I feel a difference in my body. Hopefully I can stay on track with my diet and really lose some inches so I can SEE a difference.

Looking forward to a fun month! Thanks for all the information and the encouragement.

So I dug my old tapes out and started again this past month. I ordered evolution and cardio callanetics. I have done evolution 2 times. Found it hard to do but managed to get thruough it and felt great. Have done cardio callanetics once. I am not very coordinated. I hate doing cardio but love stretching exercises. I have fibro so I have to exercise regularly to keep the pain away. My goal for May is 10 hrs of either 10 in 10 or evolution.

Mountain Girl, just this last month I went all gun hoe and ready to go and cause my knees to flare up for a week and when they hurt, they HURT!!! So even though I was sore, I did the excercise that didn't hurt and then after a little while modified the ones that caused the pain. Do what you can. Keep at it.
As for starting with a book or dvd first. I learned Callan and T-Tapp both from the books and did them for months before getting dvd, and I was doing them pretty right on getting results and needing only minor adjustments. So if you can learn from a book you will be just fine. However on lazy days, following a dvd is nicer because you don't have to count for yourself.

Hi everyone!

I'm in for May as well. Currently I'm on a little vacation - will be back home on Monday. I'll continue to do Callanetics every 2-3 days. Use the treadmill on off days, or have a rest.

Newbie

Hi all,

New to the forum. Not low-carb, but I am looking for support as I try to commit to Callanetics, and this is the most enthusiastic group of ppl I have found!!!

Am joining the challenge with a commitment of 10 sessions of the 10 in 10 in May. Anything over that is wonderful...and I hope I manage it.

Just completed my first hour in May. Here goes!

BTW, for cardio, I was using a recumbent stationary bike, but it was making my knees hurt to the point I had trouble walking. Now I am just dancing for cardio. It's fun, and I tend to make it up as I go along.

Hello,
I just won a new dvd on ebay today. Hopefully it comes soon. Can you tell me what else is needed to do these exercises? Do I need hand weights or bands or anything else like that. I want to be prepared so I can start the day it arrives.

Do the instructions in the 10/10 book make total sense to you without seeing someone doing the exercises?

I read the book twice before I tried to have a go myself, but feel like it is another language when I actually try to follow the instructions. I am sure I am doing it wrong!
My mother does about 5 Callan exercises as a hangover from when she took classes years ago and has had great results, so I am going to try to visit her soon, but I just wanted to know if you all think it is better to start with a tape/dvd or should I be able to follow the book? (i.e. the book is straight forward and I am being a dumbass.)

Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give me!

Hi. We all learn and process information in different ways (I'm a special education teacher so see this all the time) so if you're having trouble understanding the directions from the book I would definitely get the DVD. What I found that helped me the most was having both because I could watch the exercises on the Callan DVD, but have also many times referred to the book for the extra information it has. Hope this helps.

I'm in!

I did Callanetics last spring and saw a great difference. Then we had our fourth baby, got busy with Christmas, etc and I got away from it. Argh! I miss it! Nothing is tougher and more relaxing at the same time.

I'm back and ready to get serious and clock in as many hours of 10n10 as I can in May. My goal is a minimum of 12 hours (3x per week).

I'll be starting tomorrow!

we will just have to plan better next year, maybe we should all go to Hawaii for a May Babies Callanetics Celebration next May?? whaddya say?? I wonder how difficult it would be to do Callanetics in beach sand??

I tried Callanetics last year (10/10) for about a month and it was the only thing that really reshaped my body.

I drifted away from it, so here I am again.

Count me in.

GGFHI board -- I am new and would like to join in -- I am 36 and I have known about Callantics for about 18 years, but just now got committed to doing it. I have just completed my 5th hour of the 10/10 program. I am not dieting at the same time - but - I do have a routine -- M-W-F is Callanetics T and Th I do the elipitcal - I am overweight, about 190 -- This is my 2nd week -- started last W -- and am def out of shape. I can do the whole tape all the way through, but the eliptical is killing me after about 8 mins I am done. Should I convert to a low carb diet? I am an RN and know that lots of sugar and white flour are not good for me...suggestions? encouragements? pictures? Anyone?? Nice to meet you all! I look forward to getting fit!!!

GGF,

First, welcome. Great to have you join us.

Don't give up on the elliptical. Slowly build your endurance. It WILL happen. You need that cardio.

Yes, get on a healthy eating plan. If you like LC (I do!), go for it. Just find an eating plan that works for you. But a combo of the RIGHT FUEL and the RIGHT WORKOUTS and CONSISTENCY is the recipe for greatest success.

Meausre and take pics before you start -- right away -- s0 that you can visually track your progress. The scale doesn't give the whole picture.

Do Callanetics a minimum of 3 x a week in addition to your cardio and healthy WOE -- eat clean! --

And you should see great results.
