BootCamp Charlie For Men (May edition)

MAY 2008 EDITION

Welcome to Bootcamp Charlie, a place started by our man Mack, otherwise known as Sarge , where men looking to lose/maintain weight and improve their overall health with exercise and proper nutrition gather for support.

No Emoticons, they are definately not manly!

The routine for accountability stands as such:

Weigh in every Monday. Report On:
Previous weeks weight
Current weeks weight

On the 1st of each month report what you can:

All time high
weight as of 1/1/2008
current weight
total pounds from high
total pounds lost in 2008

Visitor's are welcome every Sunday to post their views of the Camp.

Visitor's, if you see acronym VFZ, that means Virgin Fat Zone. i.e. a weight the individual has not seen in a long time - a sign of real progress.

Share what works, what doesnt, but check in often. Straying from the camp for a period usually means somethings gone wrong.

All men feel free to join the camp, summer is on the way.

Challenges are encouraged, be it a week, or 2 or more. Aprils challenge was the speedo challenge, anyone who did not lose 10 lbs for the month, poses in a speedo to be posted on the main board. We honestly hope everyone made goal! or it would look like this:

heres another one i wont dare post the pic, but heres a link: http://omardiego.klauvi.is/wp-conten.../06/speedo.jpg

Welcome Cush... post often

Thanks Freddie.

I am up for a 10 lb challenge. My wife is expecting and due the end of July. I would like to be 290 by then (or at least under 300).

Anyone use the Nike Plus program for ipods? Neat little gadget that posts your walks/runs online. Allows you to create challenges as well.

Welcome to all the new guys

welcome Cush, DevinPike, and Corpuscavernosa

this is a great bunch of guys we have here, excellent advice, and most of us have been through a lot weight wise, post often to keep accountable, let us know what works for you, what doesnt, it helps us all in the end

fatfreddie, we oughta do another challenge, it seemed to motivate the guys this month, and hopefully theres no speedo pics !!!!

cush, is the nike plus program that thing that attaches to your shoe? i have a runner friend who says there is this deal that attaches to your shoe and when your run is over it can upload all the data to your computer, he raves about it, but he is a hardcore runner with all the gadgets

Hey Guys,

I'm just about to hit the 40 hours awake mark. Finals can kiss my ass.(pardon my French) But as far as I can tell I'm still looking good for the 10 pound challenge. From here on out my goal is two pounds a week, every week.

See you all in the morning. I'm going to get some freaking ZZZ's.

Cheers,

ETA: Welcome to the new guys. Post a lot. Its a lot harder to cheat if you know you've got to tell the Camp about it tomorrow.

Had an eating out mishap this evening but pulled through. Went out to Chinese where I usually get some Mongolian Beef with some added broccoli and the sauce without any sugar or starch. Anyway we had this moronic waitress who was trying to tell me that they couldn't make it that way. To avoid being a pain in the ass I ordered another dish which she assured me had no sugar or starch in the sauce. Apparently she'd just asked.

When it arrived I noticed that the sauce was a little thick and asked her again and she confirmed that it was made without starch or sugar. I took one bite and could taste the starch immediately. It's been awhile since I've had any starch so I knew that yes, it was in fact made with it.

I was with my (very understanding) girlfriend and she was nice enough to say that we should just box it up and peace out. I had SUCH a mouth for Chinese but had to give it to my roomie for the sake of not being a fat-ass anymore.

Hit up Qdoba and got a pile of their steak on a bed of lettuce with cheese, sour cream, and guac. Hit the spot.

Hey I look forward to the challenge this month and while I know I will lose the 10lbs., if for some reason I don't, I have a ridiculously small speedo racing papersuit that I'm sure will look FANTASTIC on me. I know you guys want the pic.

Hey Corpuscavernosa,

is that a menu item that yer modifying...or just a total custom order. we just got a Qudoba in town and haven't eaten there yet. Any kind of variety is nice....not a lot of low carb choices on mexican menus

unrelated note. I mighta had a woosh overnight went from 220 to 213. We'll see tomorrow if it's real...blew off some steam at the bar...kinda doubt I could be a whole gallon of water dehydrated heh...the scale hasn't moved in 2 weeks otherwise. 213 will be the lightest I have been in 2 years....

They usually ring it up as a steak/chicken naked burrito but it's not exactly on the menu. When you go in just say you'd like a pile of steak on a bed of lettuce. The pico de gallo has 1g net carbs for 2oz. while the extra hot (my fav) has 2g net carbs for 2oz. Their chicken has 1g net while the steak has 0g.

It's a pretty fantastic low carb meal with fiber from lettuce and all the fatty goodness that feeds the ketogenic machine. Highly recommended!

Some of their "low carb" selections as well as their calculator which gives nutritional information on every single item and side:

Qdoba Mexican Grill :: Fresh Burritos, Tacos, Nachos, and Salads Made to Order

So do most of us here lift weights? I've seen a lot of people in other threads that do mostly cardio and I just wanted to reiterate that cardio is NOT the best way to lose fat. Clearly it's great and we all should do it but I can't stress enough that strength training is by FAR the best way to increase metabolism and lose that fat.

For those of you/me who hate lifting I started rock climbing at a local gym about a month ago and absolutely love it. I've gotten better visual results in my arms than I ever did lifting weights and also find that it's easier to push myself to failure on the climbing wall than in the gym. It mixes in some cardio as well.

Anyway just a suggestion for those who may hate hitting the weights! I actually look forward to the workouts.

Yes, the Nike Plus is the little gadget you attach to your shoe. I use asics, not nike and it still work. You do need an ipod though

i agree rock climbing is an amazing workout, i did it once years ago when i was really out of shape, was sore for days

Corpuscavernosa, cardio for me is where its at right now, im loving it, i do 3/4 cardio. 1/4 sculpting. for a guy like me with asthma/overweight my cardio was always really poor, i could barely run 30 seconds, i want to be able to keep up with the kids as they grow and be able to run around with them, if it takes me longer to lose the fat thats ok, id rather do it this way

Ed, a couple weeks ago you said once i ran for 25 mins id feel like i could do anything, well you were right, i ran 25 mins twice so far and then today i moved on to 30 mins, i felt amazing after, during was another story!!! it was still a little hard, but doable,

finally finished the c25k program, i plan now on running at least 2-3 times a week, but now im gonna focus on how long it takes me to run 5k, and improve on that

on another topic, i applied internally for another job at my work, i have the qualifications they asked for, this is a similar job i applied for 3-4 months ago, but then i missed the final date to submit my resume, (i was about a month late) so I feel real confident about this one, there arent too many people who have what they asked for and work there already!! good news is its going to be dayshifts, bad news is, right now i only work 14 days a month, and get overtime and premium pay for nites, so there will be a slight shock to the paycheck!! But i am all over dayshifts!!! i wanna finally join society again

ok i gotta shut up and stop typing now, im ignoring the little guy

April was a good month for me. I didn't hit 10 lbs, but 6.2 lost for one month at this stage is pretty salty for me. I received a little "help" the last couple of days as I came down with something (food poisoning?) Monday night. Without sharing TMI, I wasn't holding onto too much monday evening and night. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to hit 10 pounds for the month.

Welcome Cush, Corpus..., and Devinpike!

Lots of good losses for April so far, but we're missing a lot of campers.

I might have to check this out... I am really stuck and seem to be stalling out somewhat. I am still moving down a little at a time, but nothing like I think I should be losing.

My current weight is 259, high 354, 1/1/08 304. I have been in the 263-260 range for what seems like forever... I need to kick back to meat and eggs and see if that will get me moving again. What is frustrating is that I have added more excercise to my week then when I was losing big pounds. Seems like I was losing more before I started tennis, walking, biking. ARGH

Late check in crazy day,

4/1/08 - 201 with old scale
4/1/08 - 205.8 with my new scale
5/1/08 - 201.2 so I didn't make the 10 lbs. I still figure I'm going in the right direction the inches are coming off slowly. Anyway I'm still up for the may challenge.

Welcome newbs good to have some new meat in camp. Don't worry if you get abused a little. Thats what keeps this place going.

For all of you who did make the 10lb challenge great job keep it up.

Ken that link was downright nasty you are definately a sick sick man LOL.
Glad you got that 25 min run in. It still amazes me I can run that far.

Alex good to see you got things in order again keep it up and whatever you do do not pass me again.

Ed out

Welcome newbies, sorry I didnt get that in the post earlier today, was kinda in a rush to get out the door.

Thought I'd pop back in and update ya'll on a few things. Tonight I cut 2 min off my 2 mile run time so I'm pretty happy about that. Also, when I went to donate plasma the other day my BP was 116/61 which is a HUGE drop from when I started (about 170/80). Haven't done any lifting this week, just cardio and I think switching it up and doing 6 days of running has kicked my body back into gear. Next week I'll resume the 3/2 split.

Off to work now, 3 weeks left and im done there... YAHOOOO!

Friday

well up 1.5 this morning, not sure if its the sodium in some lunch meat i ate a lot of , actually it must be, i didnt make the 3 regular trips to the washroom last nite, so i aint gonna sweat it just yet

had a little episode last nite while doing our p90 sculpt routine, my resistance band broke in my hand and snapped against my finger, hurt like a bugger, finger went purple for a bit, ok now, just tender, but now we gotta go find some more heavy duty resistance bands

Ed i think you may have been the only one that went there, unless others did and wanted to forget they saw it!!!

well lets have a good weekend guys, good weigh in on monday

i have 3 nite shifts starting tonite, then off for another week, should be an easy weekend for me eating wise
