Well there's Miss Kitty... I was just short of sending out a search party for ya!!
We sure missed you. Sorry about the bad news. Ya'll are killing me with all this exercise talk! ![]() It's hot out there and I am beat already and really I didn't do anything much. Had to transplant some begonias because after the extreme shrub makeover they were no longer in the shade! Used some Jerry fertilizer formula on my front yard, put up a new bird feeder, some new wind chimes and a hummingbird feeder cuz I saw a little guy out there the other day looking for one. It's just too darned hot out there so I may just quit for the day!Tommie, you are as usual a hoot!! I love the color combination though... was that on purpose?? Oh and I found a recipe for those meat pies I was telling you about. Looks pretty authentic... do you want it? Tommie and Shala, I am making Tricia Yearwood's rib recipe from her new cookbook tonight for dinner so I'll give you my report. They have been in the marinade since last night. Can't wait!! I haven't decided about the funeral yet ... with him being a casualty of Iraq it's been all over the news and it's going to be a huge crowd. I guess I should go ... ![]() I'm think I'm gonna go make me a snow cone to cool off!!! ![]()

Brandi....I'm not sure that my bra isn't on inside out!! If it fits better that way is something wrong???
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Shalalala....what time did you walk??? Terie and I was there about 7!! Mary....I am from such a large family, seems like Im always at a funeral!! I think I would make a point of signing the family book or going to family night, then skip the actual funeral!!! My sis and I done that here while back....A black guy that I've worked with for years daddy died and I really felt that someone from here should go!! Plus his brother had worked here also and was my right hand when I was over the service department. I even sent him to pick up my kids from daycare!! I would have loved to have seen the ladies face the day I sent BIG ED to pick up the girls!! ![]() He is about 6'5 and about 300lbs!! He had the biggest hands!! Anyway...He done everything for me!! Even drove to my house and drove me to work when it snowed!! Soooo I felt obligated to go. My sis worked with yet another brother, so she felt the same. Here, black funerals are all day events!! I've even been to one where they stopped for lunch!! Well we went early and stood out front while the family marched in. We greated each of the guys we knew. It was standing room only, so as soon as the family was seated, WE LEFT!!! O and let me know how the recipe turns out!! I sold something today!!! Wahoo!!! ![]() I just know its the underwear!!! hehehe...and the color scheme...I'm not sure how that came about either!! I swear I had my black bra layed out?? ![]() ![]()

Here ya go! This must make a bunch... I don't see where it says how many??
Natchitoches Meat Pies Recipe These tasty turnovers, along with the Festival of Lights, are native to Natchitoches (pronounced NACK-uh-tish), Louisiana and are traditionally served on Christmas Eve. They’re usually made bigger, more of a hand pie, but I like them as an Hors d’oeurve for holiday parties. I served these tonight with a Creole Mustard Aioli for dipping. The recipe: Natchitoches Meat Pies Recipe For the Filling 2 Tbsp Butter 1/2 lb Ground Beef 1/2 lb Ground Pork 1/2 Cup Spanish Onion, finely diced 1/2 Cup Red Bell Pepper, finely diced 1/4 Cup Celery, finely diced 3 Garlic Cloves, minced 2 Tbsp Homemade Worcestershire Sauce 1 Tbsp Crystal Hot Sauce Kosher salt, black pepper, and Cayenne to taste. 1/2 Cup Beef Stock 1/8 Cup All Purpose Flour Melt the butter in a large cast iron skillet over medium high heat, when hot add the ground meats, cook until browned and cooked through. Add the onions, celery, bell pepper, and green onions, cook until the vegetables are wilted. Add the garlic, Worcestershire, hot sauce, and seasonings, cook for 2 minutes more. Make a slurry of the stock and flour, add to the pot and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and cook for about 5 minutes stirring constantly. Remove from the heat and adjust the seasonings if necessary. Set aside to cool to room temperature. For the dough: 8 Cups All Purpose Flour 2 tsp Iodized Salt 1 tsp Baking Powder 1/2 Cup Lard 1 Egg 1 Cup Milk Combine the dry ingredients in the mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, with the speed on low add the lard to the dry ingredients and let the mixer cut it in until the fat is broken up into pea sized pieces. Beat the egg and combine with the milk. Add the wet to the dry with the mixer on low, in a slow steady stream. Mix until the dough just comes together. The key is to not overwork the dough. Cut the dough in half then roll it out to 1/8 inch thickness on a floured counter. Cut into either the more traditional 5 inch circles or as I did about 3 circles, I used an empty French Market Coffee can. To assemble and cook: Place 1 heaping Tablespoon (doubled for the larger size) of the cooled mixture to each circle. With your finger wet the edge with a little water, fold over and crimp with a fork. Set aside on a floured surface until ready to fry. Heat 4 inches of oil in a dutch oven to 360 degrees. Fry the meat pies in small batches until golden brown on each side. nolacuisine.com |

That should work great Diana!
Oh by the way, what does your mom do with her red chile? I looked up on the internet to see what it was. Anyway, I'll bet she has some awesome recipes. Tommie, don't know whether you'll be on here tomorrow or not, but the ribs turned out great... they were so tender they just fell off the bone. And the sauce was really good too. Course you'd have to low carb her recipe, but it was yummy!! By the time I got everything in Fitday this evening, I had gone over my calories for the day. For some reason I was a little more hungry today - guess it's from the running and yardwork... dunno.... Will have to buckle down tomorrow if I want to see a loss on the scale by Monday! Quote:

When she wants to make it in a hurry, she buys the frozen red chile that comes in a container. You can find it in the frozen food section. Then she makes a roux (sp) with flour and oil until the flour is a golden brown color. But first she cooks a roast in water with bay leaves and garlic cloves, slow cook it, until tender. She then cools the meat, after it cools she shreds it up, but she saves the liquid. With the liquid, she add it to the roux to make it some what thick, but not like a gravy, a little more thinner than that. Then when she gets it the right consistancy, she adds the red chile, until it's the right hotness. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Then when that is done, add the shredded or or cubed beef and let it cook for a little bit. I think the roux amount depends on how much meat you have. Usually about 3 tblsp of flour and oil. It should be like a tomato soup consistancy when the sauce is made. I'm not good at explaining. I hope that helps. ![]()

Oh Mary, I love hummingbirds!! I love to watch them and just admire them.
One time DH and I were sitting in the back yard and we saw one hanging around our mesquite tree. Well it was making it's sound and I decided to try and imitate it and did a pretty good close job of it. Well I guess this little critter thought I was one and it came head on toward me and I had to duck my head! I thought it was going to stick it's beak in my forehead! I'm not kidding!! DH was laughing so hard! I didn't think it was going to come after me like that! LOL!! I probably said something to make it mad!! LOL!! |

Hey Theresa... yeah, finally winding down to it. May take awhile the way I'm eating now but that's okay. And I'm NOT exercising, but I should be... What are you up to this weekend? I'm trying to talk DH into going down to the crawfish festival.Diana, I guess what I was wondering was what she does with the meat once it's all put together with the red sauce. The recipes I saw sounded really good, but I wasn't sure what to do with the meat, |
