I agree on the Golden Corral... used to avoid the place and look forward as a treat once in a while now. Hope breakfast was delicious!

Prayers coming to you LC. Keep us posted.

Happy Sunday Everyone!

My Mom said today, "I did not recognize you from a distance. You look so much smaller." Halleleujah!!

Naptime for ds. Will check back later.

Have had one walk in today and we're heading out and about later this evening.... will be doing some cycling and walking. Thinking I need to start a JigglyPuff challenge. Lol.... Any suggestions on what works for you. I want to firm up as much as possible on the journey and praying there won't be too much loose skin at goal.

See you later!

Magic, what is a refeed meal? Is that Stillman's? I'm boiling some eggs right now thinking of trying Stillman's next week. I've got to do something!

I've been reading about Stillman's too. Best wishes LaRae. Let us know if you try it and how it is going.

Broccoli sounds good right now Magickal... think we will have some with dinner. Never used to care for it, but now broccoli tastes so good. Guess that is a good thing.

Gonna head out for a short walk and then come back and do chicken and broccoli for dinner. Dear Family may also have some mac'ncheese with theirs. Does not even tempt me any more....

Hi girls
Weird weekend - tomorrow night will be 1 week induction for me. Since Friday night (I made a pork roast) I just haven't felt like eating - like had to make myself eat!! Weird.

Went walking today w/ 1 of my dogs, and then did lunges across my backyard.

Everyone sounds like they're doing so well - I'm wishing you all the best this week!!

Hey Everybody. Sorry that I've been missing. I've been catching up on what I've missed. Thank you everyone so much for the advice. Yes, I will try my hardest to take it. The thing is I already know the advice you're telling me and I follow it(try) but it seems like all it takes is one thing to screw up in my life and it all goes downhill. Things got worse. I'm apparently an emotional eater and when things like this happened before I would eat my emotions, now that I'm watching what I eat, I turned to alcohol. And I know that's not me. Got sick felt like crap(physically and emotionally) then was ashamed of myself and made myself feel even worse. It's a never ending cycle it seems. BUT the good news is I am feeling better and I am doing better. I WILL be better. I won't let it happen again. Again, Thank you soo much.

Does anyone here think it is possible for me to lose 100lbs. in 2008?? Does the weight begin to come off more slowly after a while?? I figured if I lost 10 lbs. a month, that would be 90 more lbs., but just how realistic is that??
Joy,

I was codependent to my alcoholic mother for years. She battled cancer three times and I lost her two months ago. She had been sober for 7 years, I cherished our remaining years together just talking and spending time together. I am grieving as you are. I am trying to concentrate on me for a change....taking care of me. I wanted to lose 100 lbs by November, but if I don't, and I have at least 50-75 lbs gone, I will be soooo happy.

Let those who want to support you do so. I don't know what I would do without my husband, siblings, and friends. I feel for you. I can so relate to what you have been through and are going through.

Welcome to this board! Good luck on your journey, and remember to set small goals. One day at a time leads to success.

crawling back up on the wagon

Hi. I'm a bit embarrassed to be coming back to the LCF forum in my current state. A few years ago, I did the losing 100 lbs in (whatever year) and I lost about 80 lbs before I fell off the wagon. At the beginning of 2007, I came back at 330 lbs to start all over. By July, I was 258. THen, we went on vacation. I fell off the wagon and fell hard...never could get back on and you guessed it...here I am again at 330 lbs. This is my last effort to get the weight off and keep it off. If I fail, I am having gastric bypass which I really do NOT want to do. I don't see alot of the same people here. They are probably all walking around at 150 lbs or something. Anyway, can I join you guys?

Denise

Good morning everyone!

Sunshine - thanks - I'm hoping that I'm on the right track, but I was reminding myself last night that I start over every morning - I think I can handle this woe if I look at it like that. And actually, mornings have always been my times when it's easiest to blow it. I feel like when I wake up, my inhibitions are lower. I'm trying to be prepared for that.

StlCardsGirl - I know what you mean about emotional eating. Some of the other posts I read made me realize that I am exactly that!! I eat when I'm mad b/c I think, "What the heck - everything is screwed up anyway!" I eat when I'm sad b/c I think I deserve to at that time, I eat when I'm happy or celebrating b/c - well, it's a celebration!!

The thing w/ emotional eating, or alcohol, or anything else that we unhealthfully use to deal w/ emotions - I think it's really all a symptom of what is truly going on inside us. What I mean is, I think that an alcoholic who just stops drinking is only putting a bandaid on the problem. Until they figure out what made them abuse alcohol, they aren't going to get to the heart of the problem and get through it. Maybe the same w/ abusing food, I don't know. But I definitely know that it's my drug of choice! Good luck, and don't give up - Your life isn't supposed to be miserable! Even through hard times, you can find joy - I know that sounds crazy, but you can. One thing that helps me is to focus on one thing that I have done well - like losing all of the weight you've lost. Focus on that good thing and praise yourself for it!

Have a blessed day all!

Welcome denibun! You know, it's not a destination - it's a journey! I, too, get discouraged about all of the times before and I get mad when I think where I could be right now if I had been more disciplined! But that guilt won't help us!

BTW, a cool definition for the word 'discipline' on one of my kids' CDs is: Doing what we need to do, even when we don't feel like it!

That makes a lot of sense to me - (although it's easy to say!!) But really, can you imagine if we governed other parts of our lives only by the way we 'feel?' If we only went to work when we felt like it, fed our kids when we felt like it, etc., etc. But when we're in the middle of eating whatever we feel like, it's okay! (That's why I said above that food is my drug of choice - it obviously impairs my good sense!)

I'm on board!! I started Stillman's today at 243lbs. PLEASE let it work for me! Since I haven't lost one pound since early December, as you know, I am soooo frustrated! I'm hoping that this will be my answer, but I'd like to know why it seems that everyone loses on Atkins but a few of us.

My menu today is:
Breakfast - HB Egg w/Coffee and lots of it!
Lunch - Hamburger Patty (I know that it's not the leanest, but I have a lot of it!)
Dinner - Hamburger Patty or Leftover Chicken
Snack - Cottage Cheese w/Splenda

How are you, Magic?

Welcome to all the new people! You will love this Challenge; the members are great and very supportive!

Stacie, we love you and want the best for you. Remember that when people get you down. They always will, so feel sorry for them, not yourself. You are special and deserve the best!

Heather, how are you? We love to hear from you!

Hello and KUTGW to everyone!

I have a couple of theories (keep in mind I'm not saying any of this is you in particular, just my own personal experiences & things I've read/heard from others)
  1. People don't follow the book exactly. Carb creep hapens.
  2. Being impatient and tweaking when not necessary
  3. Having a less is better attitude, which is not necessarily true for low-carb. Some try to do low fat/cal/carbs which is not only unhealthy, but something you can't sustain long term. Anyone can lose weight on 1,000 calories a day, but who wants to have to eat 1,000 calories a day or else gain? Not me. You should eat at least your BMR. Most of us have yo-yo'd a bunch and have screwed up our metabolisms. (that would be me)
I'm sure there are those who Atkins just won't work for, but I think the majority of us just have to repair out metabolisms to get going again. Unfortunately that will lead to a temporary gain at first, and I'm sure it's not easy, but for long term success I think that's key. As far as the 1,200 calorie figure, what I understand is that's BMR for an average-sized woman. For those of us who are above-average we need to eat more or we get into the whole ruining metabolism/can only lose on a small amount cycle.

Jennifer, thanks for your advice. I have tried to watch the portions, the calories (not too high nor too low!), strictly counting carbs, read the book many times, watched my percentages eating healthy fats, added Coconut Oil and on and on. I think what you said about the slow metabolism for some of us is dibilitating. I plan to watch my calories while doing Stillman's so I don't go below 1200-1300 calories. I WILL BE PRAYING A LOT!

What I wonder is when people switch back and forth between Stillman's and Atkins, don't they gain back whatever they lost on Stillman's?
I know that Magicka1 is cycling Stillman's and Atkins.

Thanks again, Jennifer! Sometimes I get into a "pity-party" thinking why is everyone losing but me? Almost five months and nothing, zero, nada, nil, etc. You get the idea! I wanted to look nice for the summer, but I'm still fat, and I've tried so hard! Enough said!

Honestly, I always did. It also lead to deprivation bingeing, but that's just me. Everyone is different.

I really need to work on fixing my metabolism, but I'm so close to Onderland I want to get there & have 10 or so pounds to spare before I do so. So much for taking my own advice Actually, I think I'll start 6/1 regardless of my weight. Let the great experiment begin

I was on such a long stall and tried so many things for almost a year , but stillmans is not a quick fix u will gain a lil water weight each time u cycle back into atkins but if ur excersizing u shgould be just fine it takes alot of disapline, its far from easy I wouldnt suggest it to somethat hasnt been following a low carb way of eating , and i definatly wouldnt go low calorie on it i try and make sure i am eating good portions for each meal I usually save half of each meal and eat it about 2 hours later keeps my metabolizm running plz dont go into it with the idea that this is gonna be a quick fiix , cuz its not !
I am learning portion controll and to listen to my body I know I have come along way thru this low carb way of eating and it is life long for me , I suggest eating several times a day even if u arnt hungry i look at it as giving my tummy a work out but stillmans was the only way i broke my stall and im learning how to cycle and it takes disaplin cuz u will gain a few pounds in water but will go right away as long as u stay disaplined ..I hoep this works for u Larae I know what it feels like to struggle, its not fun at all , but remember if u want to go back into atkins then do it very gradual and keep ur calories high on stillmans liek I suggested theres no point in starving .....and not good for u ...I agree with u jennifer maintenance is hard and u ahve to learn ur body and ur right about eating enuff for ur body weight , I have to say I have seen the effects of low fat low calorie and its not good for noone in my opinion, I think i should put my portions on my menue cuz my portions are large i just split em in half so iam constantly nibblin thru out the day , which helps me ALOT i think ,,,good luck every one...

Such great information! Thanks to all of you for posting and sharing. Welcome to all the new folks. Running late tonight, but wanted to be sure and check in. Have hit another milestone for me -- Down 71 lbs since Jan. 3rd.

Walking and cycling. (stationary bike) -- Rained so much today that I just did a little cycling, but I think it is good for the body to rest now and then.

Have a super week everyone!!

magic, I think you should look into a career in nutrition!! I'm serious - you seem to really be in tune and know so much about listening to your body, but still sound like you're being healthy.

I agree so strongly about the metabolism thing! I was sick for 2 weeks straight in January. I lost my appetite, and my stomach hurt. I was really only eating to keep the acidity down - like a few crackers a day! Guess what - not a pound gone! If my husband had done that, he would've lost 15 lbs! So I know that I've screwed up my metabolism. But I am trying - I've made myself snack throughout the day today, even when I wasn't hungry.

Menu:
Breakfast: 1/2 tsp of peanut butter (I know, I know!!)
Lunch: 2 hamburger patties w/ cheese
Snack: 2 string cheeses
Dinner: Baked Chicken breast, asparagus, spinach salad
Snack: sf jello

Have a good night all!

LaRae - I can imagine that it is frustrating going that long without really seeing a payoff - especially when you feel like you're working for it!! Just remember that you aren't going the OTHER WAY on the scale!! And we're doing this for life, right? Not just for this summer!! Your habit of eating low carb will pay off - it will, it will, it will!!!!

Welcome Slimdiva - I like your name!!! Think thin!!!
