For those who have had success with Stillman

I am considering Stillman's diet but have read here that you stop losing after 2-3 weeks. Another said to "refeed" after 30 days but did not specify how long to do this and how. I realize everyone is different-but for the people this diet worked for-did you refeed, stay on Stillman's for a long period of time, or use this as a plateau breaker, alternate between Atkins and Stillman's....? I am currently on Atkins-but do not do well (weight loss) long term with higher fat (wish I did-I love my bacon in the morning ). My current plan is Atkins till the end of the month, then Stillman's for some period of time. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Hi Justme!!
I was on Atkins and got to a certain point and couldn't lose. I was told about Stillmans from a friend and decided to try and break my stall and it worked! Of course I've had engagments, holidays and other things come up where I've not stayed on plan and gained back. But Stillmans has not failed me yet and I'm in the process of losing the weight past my stall weight.

In other words, I was at 205 for the longest time on Atkins. Then I started Stillmans and got down to 203. But I have been as high as 210 and went on Stillmans and got back down to 203. So now I'm trying to get passed 203.

I have been cycling between Stillmans and Atkins so I don't get too bored. A few of us do that.

You should read the Stillmans thread to see the success everyone has had on it.

Hello justme.

I have lost 20lbs since January 8th. I fall off the wagon for a meal or two then I get right back on. I would recommend Stillman's to anyone. So, I say go for it...

Good luck!

Thanks everyone. It does feel great. My son and I went to Olive Garden for the first time Saturday. I was good. I ate a little bit of the salad and 1 bread stick. Then I ordered some kind of chicken. I ate the 2 peices of grilled chicken and brought the tortillini home to my boyfriend. HA HA I wasn't about to put that stuff in my mouth. I shouldn't of had the bread stick, but that is all I ate all day and we went to the mall for hours so I figured I needed some carbs.

Keep losing...

I did Stillmans for several months with lots of success weight loss wise. The downside? Because of the deep ketosis I ended up dropping into the VLCD zone. Under 1000 calories a day. ANd a TON of my hair fell out. It kept falling out for a coupla months even after I went back to induction Atkins. Its finally stopped and is regrowing. Not to rain on anyones parade but I am extremely vain and the hair loss hella bummed me out. I recommend watcing your calories. You don't want to do VLC for extended periods of time.

You were doing kimkims not stillmans... stillmans does not restrict calories and definately does not involve going below 1000 calories.. more damage was done than just your hair that's just a warning sign...

No. I was NOT doing kimkins. I am aware of kimkins and the kimkins scam but have never followed Kimmers diet. I was dong stillmans out of the stillman's book that i bought online. You are absolutely correct that Stillman's doesn't TELL you to limit calories. It was just a natural side effect of the deep deep ketosis I was in. Since I only was on the diet for a few months I'm certainly hoping not to have any further side effects. But you're right. There may be. I think looking back that It was pretty stupid of me to follow a diet that doesn't allow ANY vegetables... at least for the length of time that I followed it. I know that Stillmans is a very effective way to lose weight. I just don't think its safe to stay on un-cycled for months at a time.

No specific plan .. closest to it would be a body building plan.. stillmans monday-thursday and then carb load for weekends only due to 8-12 hours of intense bicycling on most weekends.. without the exercise I just cycle over to veggies, salads, and whole grains

it was about thirty pounds in about two months. BUT I had alot more weight to lose than you do. That was going from like 257 to 227. Also, I lost alot of hair after doing this because I didn't eat enough calories. Please track your food in fitday and make sure you don't go too low.

What would you consider to low for calories.

I have done a low fat diet in the past and they put me on 1200 cal. per day.

With low carbing I am not really sure what is the right amount of calories. Does Stillman set out the calorie count? I am still awaiting my books from an ebayer and hopefully they will be here soon.

Moretta,

From what I have learned The Stillman QWL diet doesnt give you a calorie range. That being said, I feel , personally, one should never go below roughly 1200 cals a day. Especially if you are exercising. That means you have to consume more protein sources - more ounces-than on a typical low fat low cal diet.

Hope that helps.
Good luck to you!

What she said... only I think 1300 minimum. Stillmans does NOT say to limit calories, only the types of food you eat. However, Stillmans will put you into deep deep ketosis. One of the happy side effects of being in that state is your hunger will virtually vanish. Thus, you may have to force yourself to eat sometimes in order to meet the minimum requirements. I failed to do that and reaped some unfortunate side effets. Not Stillmans fault. My fault.

Thanks I will keep that in mind.

I hope I loose my hunger, I hate having those hunger pangs.

I cannot eat cottage cheese, anything I can subsitute it with. I know not ricotta cheese I don't think they make a fat free one. Any suggestions?

What kinds of lean meats and fish does everyone eat?

Thanks.

Hi Moretta, you can eat Pot cheese or Farmers cheese.

5. COTTAGE CHEESE, FARMER CHEESE, POT CHEESE made
with skim milk and no whole milk.

Did you get that recipe link I posted on the Stillmans thread?
If not here it is:

http://www.geocities.com/aquacisers/...cipeIndex.html

There's some good recipes here for the QWL too!

I think i'm gonna try stillman again! I've been doin atkins induction and i'm just not really getting anywhere. I lost 100 pounds a few years ago starting with induction then heard about stillman and lost the rest with that. I have gained it all back plus some gradually over the last couple years. I'm very disgusted and ready to lose it back and keep it off!
