Hi,
I started LFL on April 1 and will be ready for the weight loss portion on Thursday. I've been reading this thread and have learned from everyone's posts. Let me introduce myself. I'm 54 year old woman and obviously like everyone else with a weight problem over the years I've tried every diet. Last June I tried an online weight loss program that was introduced in a women's magazine. I was able to lose 55 lbs. over 4 months. This diet advocated keeping your carbs, fat and calories very low. They encouraged a 500 or 600 calorie a day. The results were quick, which was great, but when I started losing my hair and realized that I was exhausted all the time I decided this program was so wrong for me. My metabolism was incredibly out of whack and it took months before I felt better. I've been doing Atkins for the last 3 or 4 months without any encouraging results (12 lbs lost) and I started looking for something else to help me lose the last 38 lbs. I've been reading up on LFL and realized that this could work for me long term. Because I've been so used to keeping my carbs very low, it will be difficult to even consider eating 50 carbs not to mention more!! I'll admit I'm worried about that! I walk two to three miles a day, and do weight work at the gym two days a week. I've finally realized that exercise goes along with any healthy eating plan and I feel so much better and more flexible. I'd like to know what results you've all had the first week on the program. From what I've read, I know a few of you have been doing this program for awhile but I'm hoping for some input to know if I'm doing everything properly. Thanks!!! Nancy |

Good luck . It is a program that works. Listen to Gregg he knows. dont understand why he is going to "the dark side" but he knows the right way to do lindora. It is a must to plan plan drink drink and write down everything that enters your mouth. I too did atkins and have had a difficult time withthe nurses convincing me that 50 carbs a day were ok. I have found that about 35-40 works best for me. I have suscessfully lost 27 lbs. I am 60ish so it does change your metabolism "I think". You have to want to do it for YOU have a wonderful lifestyle i do believe we are in a low-carb kinda world and again going towards atkins/south beach yea.... But lindora makes sence and is healthy. |

![]() Where you're at, I don't think you want to know. I'm much farther along than most people here, I started the last week of June, 2005 and lost 70 pounds in about a year. I've been in what I can only describe as self-imposed maintenance, hehe. I've been around the same weight for almost two years, but until recently I was still following LFL. My first round of LFL (4 weeks of weight loss, 2 weeks of metabolic adjustment) was a trial to see if I could actually lose. I lost 10 pounds in the first 4 weeks and just kept going. Exercise-wise that first month I did absolutely NO exercise. I was still in denial I guess. After my first success I started walking, 1 mile at first only to realize that I was still only at 7000 steps or so, so I moved to 2 miles. It took me 50 minutes to walk those 2 miles back then. Over time I increased my exercise. As my speed increased, I started making goals: by THIS date, I want to make these 2 miles in 40 minutes! OK, can I do 35? How about 30? At some point walking just wasn't good enough so I started jogging... but honestly I was still a fat guy trying to jog and had serious self image problems, so I ran on the treadmill in the workout room at work. It was HELL at first! I was doing 4.5mph, but all I could crank out was 5 minutes, then 25 minutes of walking. Over time I got to 5 minutes on, 5 minutes off. I distinctly remember asking my boss how long it would be before I could stop staring at the timer, waiting for the 5 minutes to be up. After a while I could sustain an entire half hour of jogging. Still on the treadmill, mind you. Then the announcement was made that my company was moving to a new office. There would be a workout room, but no more treadmill, so I HAD to move outside. I did, and found a good route I could use. I made plans to climb Half Dome in Yosemite last June, so that March I started weight training in addition to jogging. I went on a website called +1 Active, which would create customized workouts, $10 for 3 months. I did this and went through the program twice, then found out that SparkPeople did the same thing for free. :P After climbing Half Dome it was obvious the weight training made a significant difference. I picked up a muscle gain/fat loss workout book that was a 12-week program and went through it completely twice. Still on LFL this entire time. Then I picked up a book written by Jillian Michaels (from the Biggest Loser), called Making the Cut, which is designed to lose the last 10 to 20 pounds you have left (which is where I'm at). To change things up I completely changed my eating the past 3 1/2 weeks. After metabolic adjustment was over, I moved to a new eating plan along with Jillian's kick-your-butt workout. And HAS IT EVER. So then this afternoon I recalculated my BMR (basal metabolic rate, the amount of calories your body burns in a day doing absolutely nothing). Come to find out, I've been eating about 450 calories TOO MUCH every day the past 3 1/2 weeks. It's not the end of the world, I've been burning more calories than that in exercise actually. Thing is, that means I've been on maintenance, which of course completely negates any fat loss I may have had. That's actually not true. I've lost an inch around the middle, but have actually gained weight. I gained through metabolic adjustment (6 pounds) and then during the program have gained 4 more, so I'm at 170 right now. BUT, my size is actually smaller than before. I'm obviously losing fat and gaining muscle. So that's where I'm at. Since I made that mistake with my calories, when the 30 days are up I'm going to start all over again back at day 1. If for some bizarre reason you want to know exactly what I've been doing for exercise, it's all in my blog, The Chances. Greg

WTG sounds like you are headed in the right direction. I love this life style esp. when it shows results. Its 2 years down the road that I want to accomplish. So I know
this is a lifestyle I can live with.Sorry about your stress over hubbys shoulder. I know the feeling however dont let yourself do the "stress eating thing". I always have celery stuffed with peanut butter or cream cheese. Something with crunch. Lindora BBQ puffs have saved many a day LOL pokey ![]() |

good morning to you all,
wow, its been a while since I checked in... Been so busy with the pupsters, and you can check my website for updates.. and yes.. our first grandson arrived also... so.. been busy here.. Doing ok on the program.. but still having problems getting to the gym on a regular basis.. more or less due to lack of sleep! LOL! .. DH has been "slacking" a little.. when we are eating out.. and he thinks its his chance to get back the stuff we cut out of our diet... So.. as soon as I am back to cooking more regular myself.. I hope to get him back on track again also. But he has been hiking almost every weekend.. so that helps. We are going for another week for Weightloss week and than next week its MA weeks again.. Still at 170-173 here... and I think I will do another few days of fish and spinach etc... this week, before do the MA. You all have a great weekend.. welcome newbies.. and good luck... I be catching up on everyones post in a little while.. thanks for the April Thread Greg! ![]()

Thanks Greg..I am not opposed to working out. I have a weight room and I have been meaning to use it ..but really prob. just like the way it looks. LOL I did the Body for life 12 week program and lost 20 lbs but for some reason can't keep up with any type of program.
It was good for me to hear how you started walking and worked up to jogging. This is something I can do and would be willing to do. I feel of the program last night but didn't abuse it ...Instead of the plan menu I had taco salad. (2 helpings) so maybe I did abuse it. LOL The kids came over for dinner.. This morning I am back on plan. My 25th wedding anniversary is next June. We are going to Jamaica. I want to be thin!! (or at least a lot less of me)

Good Morning,
I've finished my first week on LFL and have lost 5 pounds. My weight now is 183 1/4 lbs. Needless to say, I'm very happy with that. I do however, realize that it might not be that good every week, but I'd be more than happy with a 2 lb. loss every week. I made good choices, thanks to all the suggestions I've found here. Exercise has been good....doing a 45 minute workout at the gym twice a week, and walking 8000 steps every day. Working my way up to 10,000. Hope everyone will have a good week!! Nancy |

Hi, since I restarted the program yesterday, I thought I would check in here and see who's still around and who's new.
![]() I took a few months to find my motivation and desire to do this program again. I went to Philadelphia a couple of weeks ago and could barely get my seat belt on. What an eye opener that was for me... when I went to the East Coast almost exactly a year prior, I had a wonderful flight because I had lose a ton of weight on Lindora. Basically, I have gained it back. Anyways, my DH made the decision to go into medical detox when we got back (he's been sober 12 days now)... and I told him that if he did that... that I'll try Lindora again. So, here I am... going through my miserable 3 protein days. The good news is that I lost 1.6 after my 1st day... and I managed to walk for 75 minutes on the beach yesterday even while feeling crappy. My BFF and I are going to walk every Monday, Wednesday and Sunday along the beach... or bike ride. Those days were picked to fit into her work schedule since she works some nights. Anyways, I'll be seeing everyone around more now. Laura

Still here, but not with the Lindora program.
Good to see you back, Laura! So this time around, one thing you need to do that's more important than the program itself: figure out why you gained the weight back. You remember the pleasant flight, you remember how wonderful it was because the seat belt fit great. So what happened? What would make you not care about the wonderful feeling anymore? Once you figure that out, it'll be easier to avoid it this time around. Don't view the weight gain as a negative, view it as a positive and learning experience, something that will prevent you from letting it happen again. Once again, welcome back. We've missed you. In other news, I'm down another inch. The hard work appears to be paying off. Only 4 days until my first 5k run! I'm both nervous & excited simultaneously. Greg |

Ketone strips
Good Morning all,
My ketone strips just barely show color between normal and pink. I have lost about 6 lbs. since last Monday and wonder if it's anythingI should be concerned about. I even did two protein days for Monday and Tuesday in hopes that I could get more color. Didn't happen. Anyone have similar concerns about the color that shows? Otherwise, things are going fairly well. Nancy |

ketone sticks
My experience with ketone sticks.... I have lost 27 lbs and never once
had a color on mine in the early morning hours. My nurse told me to check thruout the day or early eve to see if I have color. have tried that too with little results. However I have followed the program w/o color Whatever I love the weight loss and the program. |

![]() I haven't posted in awhile, I'm glad to see everyone is still here and on track. After (3) protein days I'm back on track and down to... 165 lbs! ![]() 3 more lbs and I have lost 100lbs ![]() 20lbs to my goal weight ![]() It still boggles my mind that I've come this far by not starving myself. I did it by eating healthy, the right portions, and moderate exercise. I've also discovered a few things about myself and grown spritually as well as mentally. Its been a journey these last 10-months (on saturday the 19th). Thank you all for your support ![]() regarding the ketone stick: I rarely have more than a light pink color... I think once it was really pink and when I tried to duplicate that day it didn't work today's menu: B: Coco Crisp Oat bar and tangerine w/hot tea S: Cappaccino w/some coffee L: white fish, 1c spinach, 2c lettucce, tangerine S: wildberry D: I think fish... I haven't decided yet. S: hot coco or wildberry Last edited by ntrgrl : 04-16-2008 at 08:28 AM. |

good morning and congrats on everyone doing so well.
We are trying to get back to the routine this week.... and this am heading back to the gym.. hopefully getting back to our early a.m. workout routine.. I think a big part of our weightloss program! LOL!>. do not like to work out.. but if I do not do it early in the morning.. by the time afternoon comes around.. .all my good intentions are out of the window. So..getting back to that workout routine this morning. and by the end of the week.. the last two of the pupsters willl also be gone.. than things are back 100% to NORMAL.. and there are no more excuses... of NOT following the plan So.. during the last 2MONTH.. we have NOT LOST anything.. but we have not GAINED either.. so I take that as a good thing. So this week and next week we still will do a maintenance phase.. and MA week.. and than next week, on Monday.. we will do our 3 protein days again and start a new WL cycle. |
