Laura, I know, I know...you want to see that "2" for real on the scale. Soon!
I'm so busy thinking positive and dodging carby temptations that I am tempted to weigh even before my mid-week-sneak on Wed morn. How silly of me! As a result of some slips last week, I showed a scant 2/10 of a pound loss on Sat. Not a lot for someone my size (426#). What I figure is that I am getting into Maintenance a bit too soon (a joke, a sad joke, to keep me from giving up on myself) and need to cut back on what I eat as well as work out some exercise (arm lifts, if nothing else) to burn calories while I'm in bed. I can see how hard the successful LC folks are working to let go of pounds, while I am losing an ounce or two (if that) and wishing for a visit from The Whoosh Fairy™ on a pity visit. Oh, dear me. Well, I'm working on positive thinking and might add EFT (tapping here and there to encourage fat to flee my body?) to catch up with all of the truly inspiring folks who visit LCFriends to report their inspiring losses. Today has been a good day in terms of avoiding temptation. I ate tunafish on Scandinavian crispbread. Not too much. Just finished Friday's stash of tuna. Tomorrow is salmon, I think, for a change of fish. Might do mustard or balsamic vinegar with it. We shall see. Meanwhile, have a g'night, all!

Hi-
Amm-your pictures show such a wonderful change-so impressive and inspirational! Thanks for sharing and KUTGW! Valerie-WOOHOO!!! Congratulations and WAY TO GO!!! KUTGW! Skittlesmom-I hope you have a wonderful time on the cruise and I'm sure you'll shed alot between now and when you leave! Best wishes and what a fabulous motivation tool/goal! Zer-Hang in there! I was wondering, do you think your weight loss would be sped up if you gave up the crackers, wafers, crispbread type things when you eat your fish mixes and egg mixes? Perhaps they are slowing you down and/or stalling. I found that sometimes things that were supposed to be ok just weren't and I had to let them go. I even gave up mayo and miracle whip for induction because they seemed to stall me and/or cause gastric issues. I also know I just can't bring carby things into the house or I WILL eventually give in and eat them. When you get groceries, can you just leave the carby stuff out? I just want so much for you to succeed and I KNOW you will. You can Do IT!! Go Go Go! **hugs** Of course, maybe I'm not someone who should say anything since I'm stuck right now (and the salty corned beef last night from the party I was at and had dinner at showed up on the scale this morning!). However, I am going to do everything I can to get rid of that water weight and any other kind of weight I put on by next monday. I am determined to be in twoterville by Monday-Even if I have to walk til I drop!!! Hope everyone has a great low carb, low salt day! --Laura |

In all honesty...
Oh, Laura, it's not the Scandinavian bran-rye-cardboard that is hanging me up. More likely it's the carbier stuff that somehow gets into my hands, my mouth! It's faithfully recorded in my food diary, so there's no mystery to me at all why my scales do not give me better numbers when I teeter hopefully on them. I'm not naming here what I eat in carby madness, as I know that naming stuff CAN trigger a reader - as I am often triggered by what I read or see in tv ads. But thanks for the suggestion that I stop using strange Scandinavian cardboard as a way of finding fiber. I mean, how many of those odd 'crackers' can anyone eat heaped high with fishy mayo? Not a lot. It's not a snackin' cracker, like some I can inhale by the boxful. It's mostly fiber.
I'm so laughing at myself, full of hot slosh and feeling pretty 'full of myself', as I consider sneaking a peek at what I weigh today. Cannot wait 'til Wed morn? What a change from my scale-phobic persona! But I'll wait. I can wait. I can! |

I am still reading everyone! Hello hello. Thanks for the high fives on the 50 pounds!
I am not stepping on the scale again until next Monday. I'd rather not super-focus on weight and focus more on exercise this week. Happy late birthday! Amm, you look great! |

Zer-I weigh every day..but I've made myself weigh only once... so I understand your wish to weigh. I hope the scale gives you good news when you do get on it. My dad made me laugh yesterday because he was grumbing about lying scales too because the scale showed an increase for him too... He's such a sweet, supportive and funny guy. I am SO blessed to be back with him and my mom-as well as my church family and friends. I keep trying to focus on the positives in my life and all my blessings.

50# - what does it look like?
Cleo et al., anyone else think of 50# as a stack of butter boxes or a bag of any stuff that can be picked up and carried around a market, just to feel how BIG it is? I've done that, in the past, as I lost a remarkable amount of weight and just wanted to feel what it was like to pick up a 50# sack, carry it, then put it down - and feel how vastly different a body CAN feel on dropping 50# in a heartbeat.
Congrats, Cleo, and I love your resolution to look forward to the next 50# you have promised your kids you will let go. You are SUCH an inspiration! |

Jamie/cleo-I am SO THRILLED for you and inspired by you! (and I just love reading your blog) Congrats again on the 50 pounds shed (I don't like to say lost because that implies you simply misplaced them and may even want to retrieve what was "lost" as most times when we "lose" something we want to find it!)-I know you worked HARD to shed every ounce! Keep up the great work and let's hope the next 50 come off quickly and safely too- for both of us!
**hugs** --Laura |

Laura, we are ALL so glad you are safely home! Neat that you and your dad can work out and weigh and laugh together as you both improve the quality of your life. Are you showing your parents some of the LC recipes, like Cleo's LC Pizza and other sinfully good wonders that we learn about here?

stuff
Mona – I know I’ve said it before, but I love your picture. There are vacation pictures from the BVIs of our gnome, and I keep thinking of stealing your idea and using one of him. We have pictures of him flying a plane smaller than my car, sitting in the captain’s seat of our catamaran, in the shopping cart full of rum at the Bacardi factory, and w/ all the empties on the tarp on the front of the boat.
Seriously though, I wanted to make a suggestion. If it were me, I’d end up noshing my way through the day. When I’m good it’s all LC, but sill probably more food than necessary. When I’m not so good I also go out to eat, have way less control over carb content, and a little less self control. But instead of that, you could cook & freeze big batches of stuff. It would be a productive. You’d be in the kitchen; where, if you’re like me, you probably would have been snacking anyway. You’ll have lots of LC food on hand once you head back to work. Stuff like Cleo’s cauliflower pizza crusts, or oopsies rolls, and all the variations thereof. At least that’s the stuff I’m going to try making one of these weekends. When I don’t have anything planned. Which will be someday, I swear! Heather – I need to start lifting weights too. I started w/ the classes b/c I had the money at the time and figured it was a good way to get started. When I do anything on my own it gets to be an end of the day, when I have time, and everything else is done kind of thing. The classes gave it a schedule & structure I have to work the rest of my schedule around. The schedule has definitely done that, but it’s also starting to get to me. I generally go there from work, and then don’t get home until 8 or 8:30. I have about an hour or 2 to feed myself and the dog, and do anything else that needs doing before I get up and repeat the cycle. The dog is starting to feel a little neglected for not getting to the park everyday. Now that I’m up to speed I need to do more cardio and some weight lifting. The classes are 45 min, and do some cardio and some weight stuff w/ the Styrofoam water weights. Plus there’s a warm up, and stretching at the end. I’m thinking I need to do more like 45 min of cardio everyday (or most days). Then I need to ADD some stuff w/ weights 3 days a week or so. The running is a goal I have for the future, certainly not now!! I can’t run to save my life! I’ve never been able to. I threw jav, discuss, and hot put in high school and had to warm ups w/ those freakish people who run & enjoy it. It must have been pathetic to see me trying to keep up w/ them! Amm – I can’t see the pictures now; my government computer doesn’t allow a lot. I’ll check them out when I get home. They must reflect drastic changes though! I remember your old pictures under your name. You’ve been at this a while, but I only started reading here around New Year’s. To me it seems like 2 totally different people; just seeing one picture, then the next day seeing a 100 pound difference, then a few weeks later ANOTHER 100 pound difference. Even though you don’t notice the changes yourself, they’re definitely there! And they’re not small changes either. You’ve done fantastically!! Laura – Still stuck at 3 point something ridiculous? I’m so sorry. For your sake I hope it’s TOM. That way when it ends you’ll WHOOSH down under 300 and stay there firmly. Seeing 2anything would be great, but seeing it go back up over 300 the next day would be a little discouraging. Maybe you’re not a daily weigher. That would be one major reason not to be. But I have to admit that I am one!! I weight everyday, and generally don’t see a bounce up of more than a pound or 2. But I do see lots of days w/ no change. Usually b/c of TOM, who apparently loves me. Right now is my THIRD TOM since starting this 1/21 – so that makes 3 TOMs in UNDER 2 months. This happens every time I LC. I don’t understand the relationship, but I would love an explanation. I saw my dr about it the first time. I got referred to several specialists, and was told it was a fluke. Yup, a fluke that happens EVERY TIME I do this? No way. That first time I saw the doctor. Other times I’ve backed off LC to see if it stops again. It does, but I never seem to pick back up where I left off. But this time, I don’t care. I will put up w/ it until I get to goal weight. THEN I will see the doctor, so that whatever meds I get put on won’t stall me out like last time. I do not have the patience to stick through a stall. Sad but true, that’s eventually why I quit last time. I just have to prioritize. The weight loss is more important. It always was; I just couldn’t figure out that it would take the sacrifice of putting up w/ the side effects. Valerie - congrats! I've already gone on too long. Sorry guys. I think I might have had an epiphany yesterday that I'm sort of abusing this thread when I should be journaling. I'm computer stupid and haven't dug that deep into the site yet. I promise to work on it! |

hi there.... i just posted over in the other plans section (calorie counting if you care to read)
Long story short. miserable actions led to my highest i believe i saw 338. i restarted officially at 324.2 on 3-16. This mornings weigh was 320.2 I feel good that i have seen this change of almost 4 lbs. I don't know anyone as big as me and i don't feel someone who has lost 20 pounds here and there and was already somewhat active can actually help me or understand what it is like to be over 300 pounds. that number alone is very damaging( to me) and i am desperate to get AWAY from it! Heartwarming post on parenting....
See http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/10074168-post24.html for such an inspiration that I've asked mods if it can be included in a permanent list of Past Posts at LCFriends. It's that good. Wipes out 64yrs of pain for me. That good!

Hi-
Doing-Your working out and being active is wonderful-I am upping my routine too and I need structure too because just making myself a priority has been difficult in the past. I always put what I needed last and then didn't get around to it because it was late or I was tired or something else came up. Now, even when I don't feel like it, I make myself take a walk or just move. I don't think my weight stall is TOM. I think it is a portion control and salt issue. So, I need to get more strict. I weigh everyday and seeing the scale stay the same or go up has been disheartening but I tell myself this is a way of life so I just need to stick with it and keep doing better. Eventually, my body will respond the way I want and the scale will move down and stay down-I just need to give it time (and patience is/was never something I have/had in abundance). However, I am reminded often that things take time to grow and blossom-like me and my life in Italy. I was just at the point where I was beginning to really blossom when my husband snipped the bud off, uprooted the life I had been slowly cultivating/roots I had been developing and threw me in the compost pile like I was no better than a piece of dung and he had no patience or use for me. I am not going to treat myself that way because I AM blossoming in a good way and I will find a way to thrive! So, if my body needs another week and I need to cut back on my salt intake and portions, then that's what I'll do! And Doing, I think if you need to express things on here, do so (and blog/journal too!) Seeing how others think, feel and act helps me too. Zer-haven't been doing any baking or cooking of LC goodies from Cleo's recipies. Waiting for my stuff to arrive from Italy so I can experiement with my own baking things and my stove/oven in my apartment. Hopefully I will have my things in the next week or two and get stuff unpacked before midapril. DIYNinja-Welcome and best wishes on your weight loss journey! --Laura |

Good morning Ladies - I'm reading and trying to catch up, I've just been plagued with a Fibro flair up that won't quit.
I'm up 7 pounds of fluid retention and TOM is looming. I'm so swollen and stiff in my hands, it's even hard to type. Congrats to all who are doing well and my sympathies to those who are struggling ![]() |
