Where is everyone (Deb asks)?
I've been tossing things and reaching into hidden places, hopeful of finding the IMMENSE ROLL OF PACKING TAPE with an orange plastic holder that I did not put back into its proper place when last I used it. How do I know that? When I pulled out its proper-place-box (with other tapes) this morning, to wrap a pkg for mailing, the dang tape was NOT IN ITS PROPER PLACE. I vaguely recall... vaguely... being "too busy" to take time to put the item back in its proper place and deciding that I'd do it "later"...and then I recall seeing the item sitting out where I eventually removed it ... or left it sitting on my bed when I rearranged a shelf...or something...and now I cannot find it ANYWHERE...or at least none of the places that I've stuck my hand hoping nothing awful would crawl on it.
What I did find was a ziploc full of tweezers and clippers and nailfiles that I've accumulated over years of not being able to lay hands on one when I wanted it. But no BIG ROLL OF PACKING TAPE ON A BRIGHT ORANGE PLASTIC HOLDER! Found two hairbrushes that could use a good washing and cleaning out - if I had a clue how to get the fuzzy stuff from down between the bristles. Sigh. Found I was in the mood to toss quite a lot of the things that fill space in my life and on shelves that are a bit less cluttered now. More trash to take out, when I can manage that. Lots of tiny empty perfume samples - gone now. Several empty jars that I've been saving...for something or other...gone too. Now it's 2pm and my fingers and toes are feeling frostbite - so I'm snuggled into my bed and watching Audrey Hepburn and William Holden in a frolic in Paris - both young and handsome and looking for love. Sigh. Both so fit! I wonder if the clerk at the p'office will let me use her tape to seal my pkg. And then...when I came online...some sweet angel had sent me a prayer... and I was glad I gave up the search and decided to check in here, with Deb!

Hi gals! I just woke up an hour ago. Wow I slept almost 12 hours!
I ate so much food yesterday. All LC healthy stuff, but still..... This vacation thing is going to be a problem because when I'm home all day I just want to eat and eat. The good news is that I finally dipped below this "lose one pound gain one pound" thing that's been going on all week. So if I can just hold my progress till tomorrow I can say I've lost 2 pounds this week. hehe. ![]() I need to start doing some housework. So far I've just been sitting around reading my stash of 25 cent books and relaxing. But we are out of clean clothes. My husband just went off to work grumbling about having to wear pants that don't match his work shirt. awwww poor guy. ![]()

Goin' on a cruise!!
I'm here
I just got some major motivation to keep exercising as well as keeping on plan - my husband proposed a plan to save up enough money to go on a cruise next year. In fact, we booked it!! I've got til May 10 of next year to get as fit as possible, so when we go walking around the islands of the Carribean, I'm not the one stopping along the way to catch my breath, and rest my feet. We went on a cruise for our honeymoon, and we loved it. He wanted to try one of the shore excursions that has a weight limit of 350lbs, and I hating having to admit that I was over that. But I've been behaving myself, and guess what - I got on the scale to discover that in the last week, my TOM ended, and I dropped 10 pounds So who knows where I'll be at when cruise time rolls around. I want to knock my husbands socks off!!

Yay a cruise!
How fun! I went on one in my early 20s as a single and had loads of fun. I've always wanted to cruise up to Alaska. The carribean sounds wonderful too! May sounds like the perfect time to go, too. You can easily lose 100 pounds or more by then. ![]() Last edited by Mona : 03-16-2008 at 03:14 PM. |

Zer, what a great movie you were watching! I am a huge, huge Audrey Hepburn fan.
SkittlesMom, a cruise sounds like fun... and a great incentive to stay on track! My husband and I will celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary in 2011... we've been talking about going to Jamaica that year and renewing our vows on the beach. We're going to slowly save up for the trip... and I plan to be super hot then! ![]() |

Jezzie's salute to bacon on St.Paddy's Day
Check it out at OT: Good Grief not Beef
My genes are jumping up and down in agreement, as I am more inclined to eat bacon than beef. Some say we are drawn to foods that our forebears ate - and it seems so to me. Coming from Scots-Irish forebears, I groove on oatmeal, yearn for potatoes (alas) and resonate to the scent of bacon/pig in most forms. |

Sorry Long Post, it was an eventful weekend!
Aww thanks Heather! Really, I chalk it up to the water. I’ve had my cheats here and there on some weekends (not all of them). The water not only helps the weight actually come off when you’ve been doing everything you’re supposed to, but it also flushes stuff right out of your system again if you do cheat it. Obviously that only works if it’s small and VERY occasional. Otherwise it’s not cheating; it’s just plain eating bad food!
Like this weekend. I am actually pretty proud of myself. It wasn’t a whole cheat meal at Sunday Dinner like last weekend. It was just bites here and there at the bar. Plus I never ate an actual dinner, and walked all over the city trying to get cabs all weekend. I did get plenty of exercise even if it wasn’t measured or at the gym. And I managed to totally avoid beer on fake St. Patrick’s Day!! That was a feat! I even managed to stay in ketosis. You actually were part of the reason I got my spiffy new sneakers for walking. I read that you were walking for your exercise and figured I do that anyway w/ my puppy. Then I read Cleo’s thing about the incline, and figured I could tweak walking the dog to make it actually count as exercise. Small changes, you know? I got my MBTs, they’re supposed to make it more work just walking, and I hit the measured trails at our park to make sure it’s a reasonable distance. I noticed you’re starting to increase your distance too. Way to go!! Are you working up to running or jogging? I’d like to, it would be a workout I could do outside w/ the dog. But I’ve NEVER been able to run before. You make me want to count the crabs again too, and I’m going to do a by the rules induction after this coming weekend. Seeing your posts every day, it seems so organized, and neat, and formulaic. Like if you just do x, y, and z; then you lose weight. While easier said than done, it feels like a promise. All you have to do is keep up your end of the bargain. Mona – this is going to sound unbelievable but I really don’t have a hard time traveling. It’s hard to explain, but I think I have a fairly high ratio of muscle to fat. It sounds like being in denial about how overweight I am, when I say that at over 300 pounds. Both times I’ve done this successfully I’ve noticed other people’s statistics on these message boards; I usually wear a smaller size for my weight than most people. And even being over 350 pounds on my last bunch of flights I’ve never needed a seatbelt extension. Oh, I was cramming myself in there! And totally uncomfortable in the seat! It also takes me FOREVER to drop a size, even when I’m dropping pounds b/c my body seems to immediately compensate w/ muscle. Like I might lose that gushiness around my waist, but it doesn’t shrink. My body seems to firm up rather than get smaller. Some things even get bigger. Like my calves; I’ll get lines that make them look ripped, but they’re the same size as when they were flabby. My shoulders will never get any narrower. That’s the first muscle that gets developed when I work out. That line above your clavicle bone along the top of your shoulder. There is some outside confirmation; I know that in comparison to my normal weight friends I’m considered freakishly strong. I played sports in high school and was actually pretty good at a lot of things. In high school, when everyone is insecure and worried about what everyone else thinks, you just don’t put yourself out there for ridicule like that unless you’re pretty sure you’re going to make the team; and not just to sit on the bench. I am so excited I can’t even tell you!! The last thing I did at work on Friday afternoon was book my ticket for Tanzania. Frequent flier mileage tickets were impossible to get! Everyone I’m traveling w/ had to call everyday to search, and ended up changing their travel dates. I did too, but I was still only finding an outgoing business class ticket. I didn’t even have the miles for business class!! I played w/ some options on my dates, and even tried to talk everyone into Kenya for our Safari & flying home from Nairobi instead of Dar. In the end it was just luck! I had one guy convinced about Nairobi; he called to see if he could switch his date if he flew from there. He couldn’t but got his travel date moved out of Dar. I called back to make sure they searched both the Swiss and South African route, and got on the same flight! They must have opened seats on that flight between when I called about Nairobi and when he did. I won’t have the week before the boat to see Egypt or South Africa like I had hoped. But I’ll have a few days off at home before I leave. You want to know how complicated it is to get to the middle of nowhere Africa? It’s going to take me 3 days!! An overnight flight to Zurich, spending the night in Zurich, and a 12 hour flight from Zurich to Dar es Salaam. I’ll finally wake up there 3 days after I boarded a flight from DC. I’ll still have to get a small charter from Dar to Zanzibar. On the way back it’s only an overnight flight. But it’s like 3pm out of Dar; though Jo’Burg; another lay over in Dakaar, where they won’t even let you off the plane b/c it’s NOT a stable place to be; then overnight to JFK; and the shuttle back to DC that afternoon. But $100 worth of taxes and fees is a bargain for a flight to Africa! As far as keeping up or being active on vacation, I’m not fast by any means. But I keep up, I’ve always been better w/ endurance. If it’s swimming or climbing on ruins I am always the first one in the water or up a wall! My sister calls the way I travel playing Christopher Columbus. I’m basically a great big child, and love it! |

Hey, Laura! You're doing great! Water retention is stupid. Just call yourself 299 with water retention. As far as I'm concerned, you're there!
I'm at my first 50 pound mark, and I promised my kids I'd lose 150 pounds. I'm 1/3 of the way there and am now only focussing on the next 50. To me, it's as though the first 50 didn't happen technically. It helps to keep me focussed. I have sick folks here at my house and an article to write, so I'm going to hit it now. I love you guys and hope all are well on this snowy Colorado March day. Jamie

mornin' all! yup i am counting my blessings today!
Happy St. Patrick's Day!i thought this was cute! ![]() ![]() ![]() Found on wikihow Clean hairbrushes and combs not only keep your hair styled and snarl-free but also keep your hair cleaner longer. It also ensures that brushing and combing isn't adding lint or fluff to your hair. It's quick and easy to always have a clean brush or comb. [edit] Steps 1. Before you shampoo your hair, gather two hairbrushes or one hairbrush and one comb. 2. Wet the brushes/brush and comb under warm running water. 3. Apply a small amount of shampoo to the bristles of one of the brushes. 4. Gently scrub the two brushes' bristles together. If you are cleaning a comb, gently scrub the brush's bristles with the comb. For best results, scrub in one direction only. 5. Continue gently scrubbing as you hold the items under the warm running water until all the suds are gone. 6. Dry the brush(es) or comb on a towel. Don't be rough with the brush's bristles or they might fall out. 7. Try an alternative way. You can also clean a comb by soaking it in a mugful of warm water and a bit of shampoo. Or, you can try a mugful of white vinegar, which will remove oily deposits left by your hair. Rinse and dry. 8. Another alternative way: You can use your old used toothbrush to clean the brushes of the comb after applying a mild soap or shampoo to it. This is an easy and a perfect way to clean the comb.

Had to congratulate
I know I just posted what probably amounts to a novel - but I had to post again! I need to work on a single daily, small update. Not disappearing for the weekend or a month and trying to post everything I missed while I was gone.
Anyway I had to comment: First on ammm's new pictures. I saw the photo and didn't even realize it was you until I was reading through. You look so differeent, even since your last update! You've lost all semblance of a double chin!! And Laura, I agree w/ Cleo - just claim it! We give you credit now. Cleo congratulations. That's amazing 1/3 of the way there in less than 3 months!! I am soooooo jealous of the intensity you go at this with. |

Cleo, I think you have hit on an excellent way to psych up - by not resting on laurels of past weight lost. Just let it go and stay focused on the goal! I'm going to aim for that, as I manage to move downward with resolve NOT to gain again any pounds that I am releasing/relinquishing. I'm so tired of losing the same weight over and over. ONWARD! DOWNWARD!!!
And I agree that Laura is unofficially at TWOterVille, with some wknd water retention. Yay, Laura!!! Keep on sipping, slurping, walking. Hang in there! Quote:

Hairbrush cleaning tips
Deb, thanks for the hairbrushing tips. Using an old toothbrush is a great idea! My retired toothbrushes do all kinds of jobs. Why not claim one to clean fuzz out of one very tired old hairbrush. With short hair I do not brush as often as I did when I had long hair, but it still feels good on my scalp to brush when I can.
Happy St.Pat's Day. It's a brisk morning in SoCal. So glad to be full of protein from my hot slosh. Sure don't want to go out, carry trash, as I'm snuggled under covers to warm my ever-cold feet. That neuropathy, I guess. Got to get more circulation to my tootsies. They are cold to my touch today, even with chilly fingers. Where are my mittens? Ah, in the car's glove compartment. Make myself a note, to bring mittens back to room with me, to store with my warm knit beret that is so cozy on a chill night or a brisk morning. Brrrr-r-r-r. |
