70 pounds to lose... who's comin with me??

I would love a weightloss pen pal to share in this exciting journey! I lost 50 pounds about 8 years ago using protein power. Mostly what I remember about it is that I was MISERABLE. LOL Really, I was doing it all wrong; young and wanting fast results I did a low fat, low carb program that caused me to lose quickly but feel really badly. I took xenadrine and worked out like crazy. I did no cooking so I basically subsisted on protein shakes and sandwhiches without the bread. All the same, my 50 pounds poured off in less than six months and I maintained my losses for many years eating a regular diet; how'd that happen? hahahaha

Yeah, so fast forward to now. I had a stressful work year and had completely taken my body for granted. I'd begun eating like a monster and truly believed, "there's no way I'll ever gain the weight back". uh... yeah ok?

But I'm back to low carb and many things have changed for the better. I'm a great cook and, this time, I'm enjoying the journey. You'll usually find me in the low carb recipe helps area lookin for tasty viddles to feed myself and my lovely bf. These days, I love low carb! I eat well, I feel great and I constantly wonder, "why didn't I do it the right way the first time?!"

Supplement wise, I've ditched the dangerous jitters for essential fatty acids (CLA/GLA; omega 3s) and a great multivitamin. And my body is all the happier for it.

So c'mon and go with me! The water is just fine...

Yayyyy I've got a taker!! Hi there Little Star!

I'm so glad to have met someone with similar goals. We're gonna lose 70 pounds, and you know what? It's gonna be fun! We're gonna eat great food and work with our bodies instead of against them. I can hardly wait to document our progress.

My sister's in Philly, ya know! Right now my Mom's up that way, as well. She's staying with my sister for a few weeks, so see? We're like neighbors.. once removed.

PM me and tell me more about you, ok? Look forward to talking to you soon.

I can be here for you. I need to lose 70 more lbs. really bad. I did real good when I first began low carb years ago, but now I cannot seem to get it again for some reason. I fight with my eating everyday and I get so tired of it.
Is it just me who is having a rough time the second time around...

Heyyyyy Mary! Welcome back aboard!

I hear what you mean about getting back to it the second time around. I even scoped out different plans this time and decided to go with a carb cycling diet called the Anabolic diet. I don't lose as many pounds per week but, boy! My body is changing!!!

The other change I made from the last time is I eat verrry well! Lots of yummy dishes. I find that it's just easier to stay on plan and I feel so much better when I eat great tasting food. Mmmmmm!

These two changes have been vital to my ability to enjoy my plan and make it a lifestyle.

Please let me know if there's anything I can do to make the second time around better for you.

Denise, I have been praying to God about my eating and that helps me alot.
I need to lose these 70 lbs. so bad and know I can do it if I work hard at it, and thats just what I intend to do.
I have been doing better than I was so hopely I will have lost some by next week or so.
I threw my scales out awhile ago because they were broken and I really need to buy some new ones so I can weigh at home. Most times I just wait to get weighed in when I see my doctor.
Will keep in touch with ya.

Welcome, Mary! Perhaps God led you here so we can lose this weight together! Oh, and perhaps he broke your scales, too I seriously believe scales are evil and only tell a small piece of the story. I didn't mention that when I lost the 50 pounds the first time, I also lost tons of muscle (even though I lifted weights the entire time) and looked worse at my final weight than I had when being at that weight pre-dieting. According to statistics, I probably only lost 30 pounds of actual fat; the other 20 was probably hard earned muscle.

So this time around, my goals are a bit different. I want my muscle. It keeps my body looking good and keeps everything in place! Plus it fuels my metabolism and will keep me trim once at goal. Muscle IS GOOD!!

Hang in there buddy and let's do this thing!

Hey there Eve! I think it's a great program. Definitely check it out. The food is yummy and the plan is actually pretty fun!

Right now I lift heavy weights until failure three times per week. On lower body weeks, I work legs/abs and such twice and upper body once. On upper body week I work chest/back/shoulders/biceps/triceps twice and lower body once. So far it works a charm! I'm getting stronger in the gym (which means I'm gaining muscle) and losing bodyfat and inches. I've lost a dress size and feel great in my clothes. I can't believe I wear a size 18 pant at 230 pounds. And 14 dress!

Eureka!

Oh my gosh! a light bulbs just went on. I was reading up on the anabolic at a few web sites. It almost sounds like the diet my hubby did called "Body Opus" It is for extreme body builders though. However, i see great similarities. Okay am running my tail to Barnes and Noble rite now to go check out the book. I could just kiss you for this! Would you settle for a hug though? hahahahah . I am so exicted now. I was rather getting burned out on the atkins/south beach. I think this could be the answer to my prayers Your an angel Denise.

There there, Eve. I'm sorry I didn't catch you before you went to B&N. I could've told ya they didn't have that one. It's written by Dr. Mauro Di Pasquale, a respected physician in Ontario Canada and world class power lifter for over 20 years. And you're right, bodybuilders love him! Cuz he came out with a book that said, "Hey, you remember egg yolks?! You can HAVE THEM!!! And you can eat pizza on the weekends AND GROW somewhere OTHER thank your waistline!!" hahahaha You can put on nearly all muscle with the AD and bodybuilders get very excited about that. Because when they go on what they call a bulk phase they generally put on loads of fat in order to grow muscle at the same time (on high to moderate carb/low fat/lots of calories). Yeah, you and I know that diet puts on weight like a magic wand! But then when they do high carb/low fat/less calories to lose the excess fat, they usually lose 40 PERCENT of the muscle they worked so hard to build. Talk about tears before a competition. Yeah, that's why so many bodybuilders love the AD.

But what's important to the average bodybuilder is EVEN MORE important to people like you and me. We need muscle to keep our metabolisms high so we can eat like normal people. No more looking at a cookie and gaining 20 pounds for us!

I've got an ebook that I downloaded free off of the net. I'm happy to share it. PM me your address, Eve. That way you can give it a looksee.

Oh, there are a couple articles that I really love, as well. Here are my favs:

The first is written by Jen Heath and I can't post it because of the lc friends posting rules. But if you do a search for the words: anabolic diet lifestyle You'll see it. It's under the heading, "muscle with attitude".

Here's another good one specifically geared towards women. It also explains why women should never train or eat differently just because of their gender.

The Anabolic Diet For Women | StrongLifts.com - Specifically geared towards women

There are a couple of great outlines geared towards men that I recommend for anyone. One is called, "eat like a man" part 1. The other is "eat like a man" part 2

Hope this helps, Eve!

Hi Denise,

I couldn't take your copy of the anabolic diet. I am sure u refer back to it all the time. I would hate to impede your progress. My dh is going to d/l it for me today. There is a free online ebook called the Anabolic Solution. I guess that is the new name for the anabolic diet. Going to read those articles u suggested today. First i have to go work out. I have a bowflex and i have lots of power rods that i have not used yet. So going to lift till failure today. Hope u r doing well. Keep up the great attitude, your an inspiration.

Hey there, Eve, sounds like you're just moving along! Sounds great! Lemme know how your carbo load went, ok? You know I wanna hear all about it!

I carbo load on Saturdays; but if I feel like my workouts are suffering, I'll through in a midweek carb spike on Wednesday evening. That happened most when I was doing high volume training. Now that I life heavy one set I don't have that prob nearly as much. I love feeling my body get stronger. Isn't that the coolest thing?!

There's a thread for women following the AD on t nation. I also dig the guy threads. They're always trying wacky stuff with the carb load. All fruit; super clean (all yams, oatmeal, wholegrain pasta and some fruit); super dirty (yeah, anything goes) ;they're just all over the place! Most finally settle on a carbo load of 75 percent clean and 25 percent dirty; one day if they're cutting and two if they're bulking. I love the experiments though! I read as much as I can!

I posted pics of my six weeks results in this thread on post 641: ..Yes..it actually Does work!!...

Hey there Susan, welcome to us!!!!

Ohhh my carb load was completely dirty. It was so dirty it was x rated.
It said you could eat whatever u wanted. OMG i lifted till failure for 3 sets of each! No wonder i feel like i have been hit by a mack truck. Ohhh thats so funny. my arse is so sore, that the muscles used in the process of sitting just went on protest! Gracious. Okay back to lc today though. hmmm those forums u mentioned sound interesting. Where do u find all this stuff Denise?

Susan, i know what u mean when u see pics or vids of yourself. I seem to have a distorted mental image of myself, and when i see a pic, I get totally bummed. I just get this sickening sinking feeling in my gut. But!!! now I am taking charge of me and doing something about it.

hmmm i need to run to GNC.

Happy mother's day to all u moms

Be well

Welcome Susan, nice to have you here with us.

How did you girls do over the week-end for Mothers day?
We just stayed home and cooked out and I sat in my chaise lounge out by the pool and go in some sun. Boy it was hot here yesterday to.
My eating went well to yesterday, I was proud of myself.

See ya later.

It was hot this weekend!
We went to my moms (not atkins friendly) for dinner.
I was a tad bit bad with my eating there.
But am back on track this am.

Doing the fat fast this week. Hopefully that will blast off any extra water weight from this weekend.

Since it is TOM, I will not weigh in until Saturday. Hope the scale is merciful

Hi ladies,

I decided to carb load again on Sunday being it was mom's day and i wanted to do my 5 day lc stretch during the week days. I had a nice mom's day. We grilled and hung out in the yard. We were going to take the boat out, but the weather wasn't warm enough. We might take it out Thursday though. I had a very successful day today. I was tempted a few times to cheat but I kept thinking "I can have carbs on the weekend." Drank 66 oz of water and i think i am already dumping water weight gain.

b: bacon, scrambled eggs, 1 slice of lc bread=6 carbs

L: salad with chicken and blue cheese dressing.

D: tuna fish on one slice of lc bread

snack: pork rinds

It was hot here this week-end to on Mothers day. Our daughter and two grand children came over and she and her dad cooked steaks on the grill and the kids swam all day in the pool. I just relaxed in my chaise lounge all day in the sun. I was covered in sunscreen so I did not burn like I did a few weeks ago.
My eating went well to, I had steak and some toss salad but everyone else ate the chips, potato salad and desserts.
My hubby does alot of cooking a baking so he is always making something that I cannot eat, but the grandkids like it and he takes it to some of the guys at work to. So it does not go to waste.

Am taking it easy today because my knees are hurting, the pain patches my doctor gave me to put on them help some but walking hurts bad.

Take care....

hi ladies

sorry to hear about your knees Mary. I hope they get to feeling better. Sounds like u r doing very well sticking to your woe though. I sure wish it would warm up around here! I am tired of iffy weather snow then rain then sunshine then a few seconds later rain again. It won't make up its mind.

Well i carb loaded all weekend then i was sooo worried about the scale and i must confess that i got on the scale on Monday (i usually only weigh on Tuesdays) cuz i felt so bloated. I was at 209.8. But i stuck to lc and this am i was at 202.8. Can u believe that? I dropped 7 lbs!!!!! over nite!!!!!

I am way liking this anabolic diet. Hit the weights pretty hard today. Crossing my fingers i don't get sore. Worked shoulders, back and legs. did lc today as well and kinda felt a little tired but i persevered. I can do this!

How is everyone else doing? Let us hear about your failure or success. Enquiring minds want to know! lol

TO MELT AWAY ONE POUND OF FAT YOU WILL NEED TO WALK 34 MILES........

I found this and thought it was interesting. Guess thats why its so hard for me to lose weight because I can barely walk at all with my bad arthritic knees.

How are you all doing today with your eating?
I have been doing ok lately but scared I may stray some and I don't want to do that after all the hard work I have put into watching what I eat.
This has been the way I have been going, good for a while, and then I don't know what happpens I just stray from my low carb and eat wrong and mess ups everything.
I hate myself when I do that.

But I am determined to lose my weight no matter what it takes.
